Hi guys! I'm not married yet, but someday I really want to have a marriage like yours! Thank you for taking the time to make this kind of videos! Love U!
@CarrieSmith19913 жыл бұрын
I found the part about sexual boundaries a potentially concerning topic that I think should be tackled carefully on your channel. Everyone has different views on things but using a passage from the bible as a reason to demand sex from your partner feels wrong, particularly when there is always room for different interpretations when reading the bible. And just bearing in mind the ages and circumstances of the people viewing your videos. I think it is important to consider different life experiences and knowing and understanding your partner thoroughly, but at the end of the day the only person who can rightfully consent to sex is the person themselves, regardless of what their marriage partner wants at that time. Nate's comment made me feel a little bit uncomfortable so I really just wanted to address it as I may have just been overly sensitive to it, but potentially others might have felt similarly.
@elisethornton49932 жыл бұрын
I think 1 Corinthians 7 speaks to this clearly.
@madeleine_isaa2 жыл бұрын
I agree with you- thank you for expressing this so well. I think there should also be consideration given to those who are sexual abuse survivors or have medical conditions making intercourse painful.
@treysmith55132 жыл бұрын
He very obviously used that verse somewhat facetiously. Nothing he said came anywhere close to encouraging men to force themselves on their wives. He suggested that if I wife decides she is no longer going to have sex with her husband is bad. This is the type of behavior that can lead both parties to sin. Husband and wife. If a man is protecting, providing for you and your family etc why make a decision like that. There is clearly something going on there with the wife. For the husband this could lead to anger and adultery. It could lead to adultery for the wife too. Marriage is a duty to each other and we do what we can to make it work because it glorifies God. He clearly disavowed depraved and shameless sex acts there. Just as he said it's important to be discerning when it comes to these situations, it's also important to be discerning when we are representing what someone else has said. A lot of times wives will withhold sex as a bargaining tool to leverage some sort of compliance or submission from their husband's. Just like a husband forcing his wife to submit to sex is ungodly and sinful, so is the wife manipulating the husband using sex. Neither is using what God gave us in the way it was intended for child bearing and pair bonding.

If a spouse says, 'i don't want to have sex anymore' then the other spouse should ask how they can support them and become closer together without sex. Intimacy should be done naturally. Also, it might be due to abuse, PTSD , anxiety or distrust because of what their spouse has done. So the other spouse shouldn't say, 'no we still need sex.' Cos sex is only 10% of marriage..

I’ve been in love with my husband for almost 19 years, and visa versa. My secret is know who you are (not just your job, but know deeply truly who you are on the inside) and live that way joyfully all on your own and meet someone who is the same way! You shouldn’t be expecting and depending on your spouse to be all the excitement in your life. For example- I identify deeply with my faith, everything I do I really try to do with faith- I also love art, design, beauty, and of course motherhood. I find so much joy as a mother and homemaker. Maybe something else gives you joy. Whatever it is- love it, live it. It only gets better when you can experience it with someone else. It becomes a healthy cycle of positivity and strength when times get tough. when you do have a lul, you just have to pull out one of the many things that keep you joyfully occupied.

I think what you were trying to say about sex and boundaries, is that consent is important in what you are doing. It is also important to make sure your heart is in the right place when setting boundaries. Asking yourself questions, am I putting this boundary in place out of spite or malice or protection and comfortability? Like Sutton said if you are loving one another as Christ has called us to, then we should not have to worry that boundaries set are unhealthy.

41 years of marriage and still going. Yes, it has been ugly some times and absolutely blessed others. You have NO IDEA what is going on in someone else's relationship/marriage, even if the couple talks to you about (it). We had 3 couples in our group of friends divorce at 25 years of marriage. It was horrible for us and them. One we were sure they were having issues, the other two shook us to our core. Just saying....comparisons are awful and will drive a wedge in your friendships and marriage.

I have heard that the your body is not your own verse may mean your body belongs to your spouse/future spouse so don't share it with other people before marriage or during marriage e.g. cheating. There may be more to it than that, but that stood out to me. Sadly it's very easy for people to be abusive. There are some studies that say that religious people are more likely to be abusive. I agree with Sutton, a true Christian man in their right mind will never be abusive.

The Scripture passage that Nate & Sutton referred to is 1 Corinthians 7:3-5: The husband should fulfill his duty toward his wife, and likewise the wife toward her husband. A wife does not have authority over her own body, but rather her husband, and similarly a husband does not have authority over his own body, but rather his wife. Do not deprive each other, except perhaps by mutual consent for a time, to be free for prayer, but then return to one another, so that Satan may not tempt you through your lack of self-control.

Regarding the boundaries question, I think that they need to be discussed BEFORE engagement because I believe that if one person can’t stand to go without ________, and the other person isn’t willing to do it then they shouldn’t get married under any circumstances because the one not getting what they want will most certainly start to resent their spouse for it and fall into sexual sin as a result. If people have boundaries that’s fine but both need to know and fully agree to them before even putting a ring on.

Dear Nate and Sutton, God has used your KZbin channel to bless many and to reach thousands with the Gospel. Your steadfastness in God's principles has also inspired me in my walk with God. I want to encourage you to continue to be the Christ-like examples that God has called every believer to be. I praise God that your marriage and family is doing great! May God establish the work of your hands! Recently, I watched a powerful movie called "Power of the Air," that shows the power that the media has on everybody, including Americans. I hope that you will make time to watch this movie together, and my prayer is that by watching this movie, your eyes will be opened to see what a great influence you have right now and how God can use that influence to direct others to Christ. (P.S. I thought it was important to let you know that when I was growing up, my parents only let my siblings and me watch four movies (which were all Sherwood Church movies). Their caution regarding movies (and music and books) has made me very careful about the movies I watch and recommend to others.)
