**This is what I use. I can't give out the ROMs I make. I knew nothing about how to make these ROMs but these are the tools I used to teach myself so here they are.**
🍤 Solo Run Rules: 🍤
►I can only use the title Pokemon in battle. No switching at all, HM Pokemon are required.
►No use of items in battle. Potions, TMs, etc. are allowed outside of battle.
►No use of skips/exploits. This includes the Pokedoll Marowak skip. Badge boost is unavoidable.
►The TMs for Double Team and Toxic are banned. Pokemon that learn similar moves naturally are allowed to use it but not the TM.
►I play on x3 speed and use the in-game time for the run along with resets to rank these runs.

At the heart of it all is doing my best to play the game well and get a great result. There are too many channels that are small that do things like put 'speed run' in their thumbnail but finish the game with a final in game time of 14 hours or something crazy. I appreciate the craft and making a good video but first an foremost I want my tiers, times, and rankings to have actual weight.

For sure. I love gen 1 and I like seeing all the stats, code, and tendencies be explored. It's always important to me to play well. I see some comments on other channels like 'why didn't you do 'x' and the response is that they just don't think about it or care about having a sound run and that's kind of sad!

Yea this one was Gen 2 sprites as well. The back sprite is much easier to work with and I can do cool things like custom pallets whereas it would have to be all green for regular versions.

I went back and re-watched it after Rayquaza - just because it was so good. I haven't actually seen the Kyogre video yet - I guess I overlooked it. This reminded me to go back and catch it, so I plan to check it out tomorrow. I know it will be the older style, but I would still like to check it out.

Yea, it was when I was using Sanqui and had no stats for the overlay. That's what bothers me the most about those runs but it's still the same style and flavor, it just has the Sanqui jank. It's a good run though.

It was a mix of devamp along with some gen 2 inspiration! This was my first time working with gen 2 back sprite canvas sizes and it helps a lot. Gen 1 limits you to a smaller canvas and it's very constricting.

I’m doing Iron Thorns soon and I’m not sure how many more Gen 9 Pokémon will make it before summer, if any. Annihilate will likely be the first but that does sound fun. As a rule I like to do the original first so whenever you see the Suicune crystal run then you’ll know it’s not too far off. Gen 9 runs are rough because there isn’t a lot of reference material.

It's another one of those self-debuffing moves. As the weeks go on, it looks like there's no way to get gen 1 to lower your own stats. I've tried everything in my power but it's so hard coded that things like growl/tail whip/etc. to only work on the other Pokemon and things like growth/defense curl/etc. to only work on who used it. It's maddening lol.

As for the run, that Dragon Dance double badge boosting made that move OP'd as hell. Moves that enhances two or more stats not being present in Gen 1 may have actually been a good thing seeing what Dragon Dance was doing.

No reason. Just a tiny typo. The special stat before the run starts also has a typo. This one was a little bit rushed on the backend of things but they are all just visual typos.

Of Course, you need to run another Kyogre run with your updated tool. The trio deserves it! That said, did you nerf Ray's Special rather than going with your Chansey Rule? Your HUD showed 105 Special rather than 150, which you probably know better than I do is a huge difference. Does look like the in-game stats updated to reflect the 150, though (SpecA matches Attack). Oh, and that Ray backsprite is actually really good!

Yea it was a typo in the backend. He has 150 in the rom, damage calculations, etc. I showed the right stuff and talked about it but just had a slip in the overlay software but it was 150!

​​@@GymLeaderMatt1987 Another random thought: I know you went with the Gen9 moveset, but no insertion of V-Create for the same reason Dragon Ascent didn't work (self-stat-dropping being a hot mess)? Both would have cleanly solved the problem of "no obnoxiously overpowered move to get one-shots in the early game." V-Create probably does not survive until the endgame due to your emphasis on Physical moves, but 180 base damage off 150 Special has to be useful somewhere, lol! And, so it was said, I appreciate you getting willing to talk shop about some of the strategies and tactics in the comments. Good on you!

Kyogre with the disassembly is only fair. Groudon and Rayquaza got it. One *could* argue that Groudon needs a redo now that ancientpower has a proper omni boost, but I won't be that cruel 😂

Ha, ancient power is a novelty at best. It procced like 2 times in 3 total runs for Ray and never in a situation that mattered. It's a cool thought but rock slide always replaces it eventually. As for Kyogre, it's in the people's hands now. I'll likely hold off a bit to just get things in order for the summer runs I want to do and tackle it sometime after that.

@@Pomali1029 Like cross gen Crystal runs? I haven't thought about it. The code is more complicated there and while I have been putting effort into learning the game well by doing several runs a month and putting a video out, I just don't enjoy the games as much as gen 1. The lengthy Rocket segments and the leveling curve really pull me out of it and putting something OP into it would just be a short romp of an hour run where 40 minutes feel like I'm just going through the motion. Maybe one day but I've only just started cross gen runs I make myself in January lol. Give those more than two months before I learn a completely new set of code. Hell, I spent a month learning how to do that.

Absolutely, cross gens do seem a bit tedious, those lets get buried lol. I think I meant just plain Gen 2 runs with the original pokedex for those games. I have seen a few you made and had a blast!

Yea, it just missed some ranges. There's a bit of diminishing returns on stats and you need a good mix of both. I'd say any stat over the 110-130 range is more than sufficient in the right spots but power moves to utilize fully go a long way. Twister just isn't very good and the lack of early special moves make it just a tad slower but 2 hours 11 minutes is still a killer time.

Yeah for dragon ascent you would probably change hyper beam to dragon type that was the trade of for gen 1 having dragon dance function so well other pokemon could copy is crazy though

That would just be roar of time. I guess that’s a possibility but I really want those self debuffing moves to work. There’s much bigger implications for other moves but it’s something I’m at a wall at atm.

That's the same thing. You can't put burn or anything on yourself. Thrash is the only thing that comes close and it's 2-3 turns then self confusion. Some things are just hard coded and I need to figure out new code but so far nothing has worked.

At the start it was entered in the base stats section of the mapper wrong but the ROM is correct. It's purely visual and I didn't catch it. The woes of trying to rush something out, lol.

Ha, I don't think red/blue Surge is that bad. If you are a water or flying type he can be pretty good. One video Jrose will dog him and the next he has to skip him because he's too hard. I had to use candies to get past him just a couple of streams ago!

I’m not sure anything can get a sub 2 hour time on x3 speed. Alakazam with its sub 2h 10m was possible due to not being in the slow leveling group but you never know. That’ll be a ways off though. Mewtwo will get it’s redo one day and we’ll go from there.

It'll be a little delayed since I've done it recently and need to really keep the next couple of months on track for the summer but as for the name, 4 or 5 characters generally is what I stick to. Since text enters the screen one at a time, long names would add a little time to the run and skew results. It's minor but I strive for an equal playing field. That's why I save state for catching Pokemon, etc.

I say Rayquaza wrong too, lol. Groudon I can chalk up to accent but I know how you are supposed to say Kyogre, but childhood habits are hard to break and it's fun to see the people comment on it. Extra algorithm support!
