Tbr Schmitt is one of the best movie/tv show reaction channels. I recommend to those who haven’t seen one of their vids to check out the kiss kiss bang bang reaction

Watch the trilogy boys: The Devil’s Backbone (arguably as strong, if not better than Pan’s Labyrinth), PL and El Orfanato. They’re a trilogy, all three dealing with kids’ experiences during the Spanish Civil War. Especially ‘The Devil’s Backbone’ is an absolute must-see! (It’s not at all what you’d expect from that title) About the ‘fairytales-thing’: the later collectors of European folk-tales (brothers Grimm) were selected on topics like ‘extreme and violent, brief lives, lived by their European readership. So violent and disturbing actually became the calling card, above heavenly fantasy-elements.

Haven't seen the movie since it came out. I really liked it, just never rewatched for whatever reason. After listening to y'all, I went and bought the Criterion Blu Ray. So good job guys 👍

These reactorverse crossovers are so enjoyable, especially since I already sub both channels! Those of us in Toronto are privileged to have Guillermo del Toro consider our city his "second home". I've had the good fortune of attending many of his in-person masterclasses, retrospectives, and curated screenings of his favorite films -- he really loves to engage with local cinephiles and bibliophiles. At one of these talks, del Toro described "Pan's Labyrinth" as the thematic / cinematic sister to "The Devil's Backbone" (2001). They are bookends exorcising a dark chapter in his life: the 1997 kidnapping of his father for ransom and his soul-crushing experience with the Hollywood machine while making "Mimic" (1997). I would strongly recommend watching "The Devil's Backbone" for further insights into "Pan's Labyrinth", as well as del Toro's debut feature "Cronos".

Great recommendation! Guillermo is such a great public speaker and all his interviews become filmmaking masterclasses
