The issue with POE is what he said around 7:00, but didn't finish the thought: Building a quality character in POE1 is done by saying, "I will always and constantly be hit by every type of damage--what defensive layers will I use to mitigate this?"--rather than using second-to-second choices to avoid hits, you assume you'll get hit and build around that because avoiding it is impossible. I hope POE2 solves this with better action combat and less density. As someone who has spent about 15k hours with POE1 and enjoys building/posting builds for the community on reddit, THAT is my hope for POE2.

You probably don't care, but I like to build a character who can survive all this shit, so the build itself is a challenge rather than the action part of the game. I mean it's not mortal kombat and I love it's not.

​@@alexanderegorov8647 I don't think your point is invalid and I can agree with you to some extent. That said, you don't keep an umbrella in the car because you know it will rain every single day--you bring it because it MIGHT rain. Same with builds and how you gear to get hit. With POE1, I too find enjoyment out of making builds that are nearly invincible. It's fun to trivialize a game and watch enemies explode. That's what makes POE1 fun... But there are many things you CAN'T have with clusters of monsters on your screen: 1. Visual fidelity/clarity. Both for graphics and gameplay telegraphing. It's out the window when you play a horde-style game. 2. Reaction-based gameplay. The two times you're actually reacting to the screen is during a boss fight and if your character needs to move for DD/ground effects (mine do not). 3. Variation in end-goals for builds. This is specifically: what you do want in POE1? Well, you want the screen to explode so you can move on faster. What about bosses? Well, you want them to die before you need to perform any meaningful mechanical operations. That, or be tanky enough to not care about said mechanics. I would argue the above 3 things hinder a vast majority of people from getting into POE1 or staying in POE1. I believe they are making POE2 to solve these issues.

THAT is the issue with POE. Unlimited options, but you can only really play a few ways and be successful. They need to make EVERY skill and choice viable in POEE2

A sequel that shows a true evolution and progress compared to the previous title and tries to innovate within the genre. It's a strange thing these days, sequels are generally "more of the same" and sometimes less than before.

It's an interesting comparison because one of the criticisms from season 1 of D4 was lack of mob density. They increased it some, but doesn't get as high as POE from my experience. Which imo is a good thing

2:40 100% correct. If you look at pretty much any promotional footage of PoE1 they're not clearing screens in one ability press it's usually just to demonstrate how a new skill works and looks. Looks totally different from how most people actually play the game. I would suspect a similar thing for PoE2 promotional footage.

Yes Jonathan Rogers has explicitly stated numerous times that all of the gameplay we have ever seen is under leveled and under geared. The entire point is to show off the animations, environments, etc.

One of my favorite parts of poe, which Diablo 4 lacks. The skills have no aesthetic prettiness in Diablo and I can’t instant delete with ice or profane bloom like in POE, when it’s extremely enjoyable with the popping noise.

13:00 Regarding "Starter Builds" for people that don't want to go on build websites, they could have 2-3 most popular builds in a dropdown menu so that not everyone with the same class will be running the same build. Select the build and it highlights a trail that you can follow in the talent tree. That being said, GGG did say they are thinking about adding the functionality of downloading a "build file" that will do this magical highlight for the trail that you're supposed to follow. Let's hope they also add their own in a Dropdown and then if you add more into a folder (or maybe by copy pasting a code ingame, like LE's loot filter) they get added to that dropdown. So basically I'm thinking of EXACTLY Last Epoch's loot filter (where you can copy-paste, but also insert files into a folder if that's your choice) and a dropdown appears. This, but for Passive Skill tree in PoE2 + Some that are already there, made by GGG as "starter builds"

About 1S mechanics, Asmongold ir right. Something people might don't realize is that Souls games allow you to fuck up a lot. If you have 8 estus, even if you die in 2 hits, you can get hit 9 times before dying. That means that each time you die, you have a lot of time to learn what works and what doesn't. If you get 1S, or have no heals, it means that you will spend a lot more time going back to the boss that learning the boss itself.

I found myself in a situation in PoE the other day where the literal instant I stepped into the boss arena of a map I'd just die. Zero chance to do anything, no way to even guess what was killing me, no monsters even on screen. It really sucked losing several hours of XP to something I couldn't even begin to identify to avoid it. This should NEVER happen, I don't care how scuffed your build is. 1S mechanics can exist, but it should always be clear what killed you.

its also worth noting that in Dark souls, when you die to a boss you at worst have a few minute run-up to fight the boss again. In POE or other ARPGs the chance to fight the boss is often an hour+ investment, which you now have to repeat to try again. Learning fights is very expensive

​@@amirafaunov4889 the problem is that the defense layer requirements in PoE have become more stringent over time as mobs have been powercrept through mechanics like archnemesis and now certain t17 specific affixes and multipliers and the biggest killer is not oneshots, but small hits. It's way harder to be resilient against "small" hits in juiced content unless you have both high defenses and can recover a lot of life/ES per tick or have defiance of destiny, which is now a T0 rare which should be hard to acquire if loot isn't super degenerate like this league

I've actually been in that situation where I was the random player being given a bunch of money/loot. Had it happen years ago when I was playing WoW. Someone decided they were fed up with all of the changes to the game and were quitting for good, (for reference purposes this was during the Warlords of Draenor expansion) so they chose me to give all their stuff to specifically because I was playing on a troll character. Apparently I was the only troll in the Barrens at the time, so he had me meet him at Ratchet so he could empty his bank and give me loads of stuff. I had to make several trips to the bank and mailbox but it was worth it lol.

I really like that beginner build tree idea. Really all you have to do is highlight a few paths in different colors. Allowing for choice; but also really helping out newer players. Like for the Barbarian; a melee spin to win build be highlighted in red, a fire totem build in orange, and a glacial hammer build in blue.

Devs on multiple ocasion stated: "If you open the skill tree and think it's too much instead of "Let's fucking gooooo!", the game is not for you. Because the skill tree is the simplest and most exciting part of the game, and we have no desire to deceive people that aren't gonna stay when they get to actualy hard and complicated parts of the game."

Poe's skill tree is one of the simplest parts of the game. Like Araam has said the devs say if you think that is intimidating then they doubt you'll stay for long anyway.

The problem existed mainly for those that copy_pasted a meta build. Personaly I always made my own build, something cool, never had my mana pool completely covered like almost all the builds. And it apears they have done something to fix some of those issues.

@@Butterbutter6263 The amount of buttons you push really just depends on what your build is. I often have builds for which I use 3-4 skills, as there is stuff like warcries, mines, curses, guard and movement skills. Sure, you can make it so your attacks apply the curses, or that guard skills trigger automatically (Although not sure if that works anymore, I think there was an update that made guard skills manual only? or was that warcries?), but that reduces the potential of those skills you'd have if you added other support gems instead.

Most people dont know about this, but POE just took off in China, there is a tutorial league in standard that guide you through a fireball build with given gear at respective quest point/map level. Its an accelerated tutorial to endgame with partition in skill tree that only allows you to see prt of the tree at a time. I think its pretty cool

One of the best things that has come about from the hyper greedy gaming corpos like EA and Ubisoft is that we are starting to see the push back. Those who see the trends and refuse to follow them out of spite. Those who go above and beyond to buck the trends and reverse them. We are starting to see a division within the industry as passion overpowers greed. And we will watch as passion wins out over greed. For the first time in years I have genuine hope for the industry's future because I'm seeing games that are highly anticipated fail due to greedy anti-consumer practices shoved in them resulting in boycotts and avoidance, while smaller and indie games that genuinely show that the developers are treating it like a labor of love rather than a product meant for consumption are starting to rival the biggest names in the industry. (Larian with Baldur's Gate 3, for example. An indie studio by definition, and a relatively small studio until they had to expand to part way through BG3's development cycle.) To quote Gabe Newell: "If we are making people happy, the money will work itself out."

This meta which ARPGs "evolved" to was introduced back in the day by the MedianXL mod for Diablo 2 which took Diablo's powercreep farmfest to the next level. Every ARPG since then either tried to replicate what MedianXL did or achieved the same thing independently. Obviously there has to be something about the market that is leading to this, as games like Warframe that weren't originally designed to be a powercreep farmfest ended up with this meta anyway. One of the games that unintentionally evolved out of the ARPG powercreep farmfest meta is Albion. They have quite a few interesting systems and gameplay elements. Sucks that all of those are now locked behind a shitty pay2win MMO. But could inspire future ARPGs.

That game director thing is huge. It was SO eye opening for me to realize that not just many... but MOST modern games that are designed, made, and shipped and then updated for years ACTUALLY DO NOT EMPLOY ANY GAME DESIGNERS. ZERO GAME DESIGNERS! No one who makes game mechanics their special interest, no one who went to school for game mechanics, no one who is keeping the end product as a GAME in mind. They just have a bunch of managers and programmers and graphic designers that they call 'artists' but have no creative freedom at all. It's CRAZY BRO! When I was a kid in the mid-90s I was confident I'd be going to college for game design b/c everything was pointing to this being a huge artistic-led industry and a bunch of 'us', the 90s gamer kids, all figured this industry was going to blow up and games were going to as badass as hollywood movies. Then it just... didn't happen. Instead, people with MBAs were given MY career instead. Now I have no career. Just a job.

NGL it is downloaded for these reasons and i believe those are in order: 1.copy other peoples builds 2.See if your idea of a build is viable (lowkey wish it is op when the league starts) 3. as you said pre-build your character.

I'd love to see PoE 2 have much more methodical combat. I want the game to force me to use the ENTIRE kit of a character, not only have a "Look mom, only one button" playstyle. At the point where all you do is hold down one button, run through everything and dying / living is decided by a Stat-Check instead of true, in game, gameplay skill... well, then you might as well play the game in an Excel Spreadsheet with a Random Number Generator. Literally the same level of "gameplay".

All your skills can do combos, so you can use multiple skills. It auto swaps your weapon mid combat exactly for that. You should look at the demo. Also, gameplay skill is super important in POE. Any bosses will destroy you if you are not skilled.

You can do that now, a lot of builds have multiple buttons and they get optimized and automated by the time the build is fully complete. "Look mom, I posted my opinion again" ... LOL

Something I feel POE2 should do with the talent tree is to condense all of the minor nodes and allow us to assign more than one point into each one. Each point on a single node granting related effects like max hp and hp regen or ranged damage with bows and projectile speed. Then have the major nodes locked behind x number of points in the node before. I'm not particularly intimidated by the POE1 talent tree, but it was definitely intimidating at the beginning, I think that is something GG needs to fix in this next game to attract more players.

@@jotuthegamingguru8809 We've seen gameplay. The skills shown dont have low cooldowns, and we've only seen 1-2 support gems attached to skills being shown off. Its gonna be the same, just more refined. Anyone who spends at least 5mins looking at the recent gameplay vids will understand that.

Its btw not the Games fault that we have a internet situation where you can hook up any information you wanted to. back in the early days there were no information given you talked to friend and read things up in Magazines and stuff. Your brain knows he can just look things up. That's why we feel we " have to " use third party tools. keep that in mind. Games were complex too back in the days you just had to discover things on your own. PPL are lazy that's the biggest problem.

What would be really cool is if players could create a build and add it to a public library in game that others could look at and apply and do test runs with. They could be voted on by the community and even have comments or discussions added to each build added. Kind of like how LoL and DotA build sites have. But have it built into the game and allow the players to play-test in a sandbox.

People need to remember patches 3.15 and 3.17 and the "vision" and how BADLY the community reacted. Then realize that Chris Wilson is "guiding the vision" of PoE2 (as per Jonathan) and that this game was built out of Ruthless mode (Chris Wilson's pet project). PoE1 is a great game, but this won't be zoom zoom exponential scaling right out of act 1 and although you can get some of that in Ruthless, it is much more limited (balanced).

I love POE, a big fan of GGG and i'm also excited about POE2, but this absolute hype and giant expectations is kinda dangerous. We know how small poe2 team is compared to big AAA games studios so we know that it's VERY hard to make the game launch and first versions stable, so we have to be patient about that

I left a very similar comment. I think a lot of people hype themselves up to the point that it ruins what could have been very fun experiences for them. Even the best of games stand no chance if you set unrealistic sometimes impossible expectations.

What I don't like about necropolis is lantern mechanic alone isn't really rewarded enough by itself during start to pre endgame comparef to how cumbersome it is. Graveyard crafting feel super clunky to use.

What about simply a new player talent tree, which progressively opens up, and the standard talent tree which is what it is now. You can choose every time you start a new character, but have the option to turn the option off.

There's 2 reasons why I don't play PoE, 1st is the lack of visual clarity and 2nd is the rigidity of the character progresion, not being able to mess around with my build while leveling and having to either copy a build or stay for a week on path of building takes away half the fun out of the game for me. If they change those things on PoE2 I'll be playing the hell out of it.

You don't need to copy another build, and it's the opposite of rigid. PoE is fundamentally a sandbox game where you set your own goals. I enjoy the challenge of making my own build and seeing how much further I can get than last league.

Poe having reccomended talents for the campaign, with completing the campaign giving you a one time full talent reset "coin" (or just give 100 orbs...) to use WHENEVER you want, not just immediately, to then refocus your talents as youre more comfortable with the game and not scared by the skill tree at that point. Obviously make the reccomended talent a CHOICE with the reset reward only going to those who pick this path instead of building their own

So the thing is people enjoy making super strong characters and blasting through thousands and thousands of monsters. While I recognize visual clarity is a problem that POE2 should aim to solve I also worry that they don't get rid of what so many people like about POE1 in the process.

@@mykellederickpalad7883 This has been debunked by Jonathan Rogers himself, numerous times. All of the gameplay that has been shown of the game is severely under leveled and under geared. He has explicitly stated that while it may be a little bit slower than PoE1 in the beginning, power creep will grow rapidly as the game goes through seasons. He fully expects endgame builds to be very fast, just not blinding speed of PoE1. Around 70-80% of PoE1.

Mob density can be a good way to introduce stress to gain strategy. Having 4 big slow guys that do lots of damage and have some sort of mechanic to them is an interesting strategy. Having hundreds and hundreds of low level mobs that get one shot by everything but if you fuck up one move it can ruin you is also an interesting strategy. There is a fine line between the game being challenging and the game being annoyingly complicated for no reason. I like both situations but i definitely dont need an encounter where there are 3 big guys that i cant focus on because waves of mobs are spawning.

I think there are a lot of passionate devs they just aren't given the freedom they'd like especially on AAA. You still see it a lot in indie games, as they have more freedom but unfortunately less budget and resources. So they're limited too.

Half of my time spent playing PoE was planning my build on the planner site while I'm at work. It's really really good but what made me fall off was totally the enemy density and not knowing where I was getting instakilled from, even when I made the beefiest build with the full resistance caps. Getting off work to lose 80% of a level is so relaxing 🥴

Same, i did a few random dungeons and area's and felt like i was just running around a randomly created chaotic maze, the world felt like it was created purely to extract as much time from me as possible, I just don't get these types of fetch quest games. I much prefer hand crafted worlds like skyrim, they feel much more alive and satisfying.

9:50 fundamentally false. You have to download PoB since the skill tree, gems, item system is too complex. You´re not gonna be able to make an endgame build with just clicking random nodes and be like, yeah I can run whatever tier maps with this no problem.

You do not need to download PoB. You can follow maxroll guides and they will smoothly take you there. I've played for a decade and have done both with no issues.

Enemy density is a problem Dynasty Warriors also suffers from. Ever since they can put loads of enemies on screen they go for it and now it feels more like you're wailing on an army of sandbags rather than being an actual general in the middle of a battleground.

Mob Density is too required in games like PoE, I don't want a slow as hell game where every skill has a cooldown that's bigger because it shouldn't be spammed, or the enemies are hp sponges that can one shot me because now there's half or less as many enemies.

It's a difficult thing to balance. I personally dislike poe1's mob density. Feels like a silly mobile game a lot of the time when you're blasting tens of thousands of insignificant, uninteresting mobs. I know POE2's endgame will be a lot faster than what we've seen so far as they've only shown act 1 and 2. But I hope they really slow the game down and make the moment to moment combat more impactful and memorable. That's just what I want personally. Those who want something much faster - PoE1 is always there.

20:55 - There were 5 main issues with necro league. 1. The grave craft mechanic was cumbersome and tedious enough to be painful and unfun to use, often taking several days of grinding for a single craft attempt, while also being powerful enough to be pretty much mandatory for every build. High-risk high-reward is fine but the tedium involved made it feel like dragging your balls through a mile of broken glass just to be rewarded with a slap in the face and another mile just for a CHANCE at a jackpot. 2. The corpses were EVEN MORE visual clutter that could not be item filtered, blocked you from picking up loot, and could not be visually dismissed without picking up the trash corpse. 3. It was a forced-interaction league mechanic, you could not opt out of the corpses or the mods they added which in T17 would often just brick an already expensive map completely even if it was rerolled to perfection with hundreds of chaos orbs. 4. The economy was fucked within the first week because of undercooked and overlooked interactions like divine armor conversion mods or T17 Beyond Rogue Exiles dropping 3-4 T0s nearly every kill. That strat just printed like 400+ divs/hr in T0 drops and was so hard that pretty much only big guilds or streamers with a lot of advantages could do them, then it got patched before normal players could catch up. Rinse and repeat like 6 times with dif strats in the first month. Divines dropped to like 90c at one point. 5. T17 maps were harder than ubers, and it was not close. The map bosses base stats and mechanics (except fortress) are already uber pinnacle difficulty, but then you add 8-10 map mods on top of it. This would have been fine if they were intended as the new endgame content, but GGG also made it so uber keys ONLY drop from T17 bosses. This made T17s harder than the content they were inteded to be a gateway for. What made them so hard? For every combo of mods that was safe-ish, there were 200 combos that would make a random rare mob into an impassable wall that 1-shots you through any amount of damage reduction. And then haunted mods give that rare a perma accel shrine. Or 600% health. Or 300% increased damage. Or guaranteed mega-crits. You get the idea, massively overtuned for its intended function.

I don't want to do that on every game, but if you find the right game, it's super fun to do that (for me, that game is Pathfinder 1e, I don't know what the deal is with 'Path" games being awesome build and character customization focused alternatives to the more popular games beginning with the letter 'D', but you know how the Doofenshmirtz nickel quote goes...).

PoE 1 i feel like, is very pleasant to push a couple builds into the early to mid end-game and then wrap it up before you get into the really nutty endgame farm strategies that give you all this insane visual clutter.

I see a lot of hype and hope for this game and a lot of "this is going to do this" with all of these talks. At the same time, no one is willing to admit this may not be what they are painting it out to be. People are defending this game like they have already played the whole game and spent hundreds of hours in it. I'm going to laugh if this turns out to not live up to expectations. People need to step back and remind themselves that not everything turns out how they want. I don't care who is making the game, not everything turns out how you want.

I feel No Rest for the Wicked is already doing this. In PoE, and every other Isometric ARPG, you just one button spam through legions of foam enemies. That's so boring and overdone. No Rest for the Wicked made enemies an actual physical being in the world, they react to your movements and attacks, they aren't made of foam, and if you are fighting 3 enemies at once you may be in a bad situation. The foam one dimensional automatons with no self preservation of previous Iso ARPGs isn't ever going to be something new.

Sorta related, Jonathan Rogers has confirmed that NRftW's combat speed is the kind of slow that people assumed PoE2's combat will be - i.e. PoE2's combat will be faster than NRftW. Plus PoE2 won't have stamina systems (most Skills in PoE2 don't have cooldowns) and it provides dodge roll as a way to cancel out of long Skill animations if you want to quickly do something else (unlike NRftW where if you do a long attack, you're stuck with it to the end).

I think you have it wrong, I think some people enjoy poe, because of all the extra resources you need in order to make your character feel buttery smooth. It gives a much bigger feeling of accomplishment in my opinion, when you finally learn to decipher your passive tree.

To offset the mob density, they'd have to up the mob's complexity - how mobs interact with each other. So rather than having 10 different mob attacks cluttering the screen, you'd have 5 basic mob attacks amplified by the 5 extra (different) mob types. E.g. 1 fireball multiplied into multiple/homing or Multiple weak into one big bomb. Lightning aoe turned into powerful SDps, or fixed totem into chain. Big close quarters physical enemy being mounted/altered, adding a ranged / speed element. Singular weak enemies gaining a more powerful swarm form or being buffed. Adds a dynamic choice - do you kill the main enemy pressing you, or the one boosting it to its more powerful state?

Great video by the one who made it, the only thing i would not have done is put No Rest for the Wicked there because it is in early access, although it already is showing that as potential. Also, we are far to see what is the vision for the game and what will be the 1.0 release and its a really different ARPG than D4 or PoE.

I broke POE 1 with flickerstrike and berserk, where I could instantly do another strike. It would teleport to nearest enemy, hit it, teleport to nearest, hit etc. I would clear everything pressing one and looking away. I felt it was stupid and returned back to D2.

That isn't breaking the game, that's literally the skill. I'm glad you played the most memed on skill in the game, because everyone knows its stupid, and decided to not try any of the other 100 builds and just quit. Good job.

@@dalytennis This was back in 2015-16. If the game becomes no challenge, I see it as broken. I know it has way more builds, and I created four more characters, but they would never turn out as broken as my first character ;-). I didn't like my first character was the most annoying to play, but also the easiest and the best for grinding loot. I came back some times, where my characters trees were reset which made it even more difficult to get back in to the game. Some people would like this type of gameplay, but if I outsmart the dev and the devs go:"Yeaaa this is kinda working as intended", like the barb whirlwind in D3, I quit the game. I'll play PoE 2 if it's not as crazy as PoE 1, that means it's tested well and balanced. Don't get me wrong PoE is better than anything Blizzard released after D2 :D

Tera is the only game I've played where you use all the skills you're given as you level, when you get a new skill you just add it to all the others.

1:00 Might as well not have a map, characters or mobs, as soon as the skill casting starts you can't see any of these anymore. Just have an empty black screen with name tags and a UI with your skills, that'll do.

my biggest issues with poe are 1. loot feels unsatisfying since the best items are mostly yellows with high rolled stats which you need to learn etc. and 2. the overwhelming amount of tediious content from the crappy campaign we need to do every time again, the trials which need to be done and the atlas endgame crap. Give us something new, interesting and fun!

Poe's rares are why its itemization is the best in the world. Yes the ground loot is generally bad outside of jewelry after a week but because itemization is so good you have to craft to make the best items.
