Fascinating to think about the rise of Spain winning the Euros and World Cup through 2008-2012, which are the exact years that Pep was manager of Barcelona. He then goes to Bayern Munich and in 2014, Germany win the world cup. His presence and shift to England (along with Klopp's) has undoubtedly brought an influx of elite managers who are eager to prove themselves in the EPL as well. While this does not reflect a major tournament win for England, one could argue the England side is the best it has been in recent years. It's probably all a coincidence, but it's definitely something I've thought about. 😅

My unpopular opinion regarding Guardiola (who I consider to be one of the best managers of all time, despite being a Real Madrid fan) is that his Manchester City team has a lot more merit than his Barcelona team. Yes, his Barcelona team is his most iconic and it has a great case to be considered the best club side of all time, but he already had most of the pieces when he was promoted as coach from Barcelona B. His greatest merit is promoting Busquets and Pedro, re-signing Piqué and Cesc, and the transfers of Alves and Villa. Other than that, he already had Valdés, Puyol, Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Henry, Eto'o, etc at the club, you can even argue that Busquets and Pedro would have been promoted anyway. Let's not forget Puyol, Xavi and Iniesta were key pieces of Spain's 2008 EURO title and that Messi was already a BDO nominee before Pep's arrival. While it's true that Guardiola has had an unlimited check book at Man. City, for me it is very impressive how he has added most of the pieces himself. Ederson, Walker, Stones, Dias, Laporte, Cancelo, Rodri, Bernardo, Sané, Mahrez, Gabriel Jesus, Haaland, Grealish, Álvarez, etc have all been signed by Guardiola, and most of them have improved tremendously under him, becoming essential in the domestic success of Man. City. For me, this has a lot more merit than a job where you inherit most of the players and then take them to glory.

Fair take but I disagree. Barca were in shambles when he took over. They had senior players who were underperforming in Ronadinho, Deco etc. Even Xavi was set to leave before Pep convinced him to stay. I think letting go of the big names and trusting others like Xavi as well as young players like Messi should not be underappreciated. Instilling the discipline, hardwork and tactical revolution that turned Barca into a reference point for football whilst being relatively inexperienced is his biggest achievement imo.

Pep has clean slate with City. He built this team bottom up and they haven’t peaked yet. Staying the longest at city is indicator he want to build legacy. I honestly believe he will play an evolved version of total football with way tactics change in between game. The focus on defensive ball playing profile centre back will make it easy to rotate positions and if defensive is solid in their game the attack will be more potent. If the 30min of second leg of Real Madrid is anything to go buy it flashes of what is to come. Phil Foden under Pep is one of potential to become best player of England. To say Foden will be heir to David Silva position show just highly he views him. This also includes Stones as well for years he saw potential to play as Liberio role. Something not mentioned is the academy at City. All youth division at Man City all play like first team. Positional play is taught and Premier league team won three titles in row but guess what this was EXACTLY the same with 3 youth team below all doing 3 peat in bounce. Rico Lewis has be able to adapt when promoted to first team because culture is the same down to grass roots. The vibes is La Masia 2.0 exists and with CGG model City are gearing up to dominate. This has been in the making 10 years since academy was rebuilt across the stadium.

Yeah that's not true. Sir Alex had/has the most haters (Arsenal fans, Liverpool fans, City fans, Chelsea fans, and for some reason a lot of Pep/Barcelona fans who try to diminish what he did lol). The truth is any record signing or big signing that Sir Alex made (Veron, Rio, Andy Cole) were all thanks to his own hard work when he re-built United from the ground up from 1986 to 1990. He ensured that the new scouting network was setup, the new youth academy was in place, and Carrington training facility was state of the art at the time. His initial success winning the PL and FA Cup came with 7 youth academy players. And if you look back at his press conferences, he was held to such high standards that even with the rule of "limited foreign players" allowed in UCL squads, he was expected to win the UCL every season or else his season was considered a failure.

I love how Tifo broke down Peps evolution as it mirrors what typically happens in an FM Save. Carry over tactics from old teams, build great scout network, build 2 teams in one squad and have players play about 25-28 games per season to maximise fitness. But really though. I also like the way Pep has persevered throughout the years when it comes to the Champions League. His teams almost always lose due to being caught on counterattacks. Instead of going defensive with his tactics, he's actually enhanced his team's control by adding an extra defender without compromising his attack. City play with four defenders, with only Stones being really good on the ball, and that has nullified opponents' abilities to expose City when the latter doesn't have the ball. Compare that to someone like Ancelotti. He does a great job of maximizing his best players' talents, but he simply doesn't have a way of playing that can guarantee that his team will only lose due to the nature of how sport is. With Benzema not having a heroic run in the CL, Real were less potent. On the other hand, Haaland was the most profligate City player against Real, but that had no effect on City.

People realizing that money doesn’t mean anything if the manager isn’t actually good, and the players big egos aren’t put in check: 🗿 I mean I got some nice nice examples of clubs that had a lot of money but didn’t do well in the end because of their managers and egos. 1. man Utd have spent as much as city in the past 6 years but haven’t had even 1/8 of the success as man city. 2. PSG, big frauds. What else do I have to say? 3. Juventus, after their main core from the 2014/15 season left it was over. People love to say that Pep had Messi, Iniesta, Xavi, and etc at Barcelona, yes he had those guys, but have you ever looked at the production of Messi before and after pep? The 4 or 5 seasons before pep Messi only scored a career high of about 20 goals in a season. After pep Messi was scoring 50, 60, and 70 goals in a singular season. Have you guys not seen how much better young players become under man city? Cancelo was a very good young prospect for a while, but he seemed to have hit his ceiling by the time he joined Juventus, however a season after joining man city he was literally the best left back in the world. He’s done this for a lot of players, many of them seemed to have hit their ceiling of their potential and then pep walks in and a season later they become some do the best players in the world. Obviously this isn’t absolute and some players have stayed at their level when he arrived or they arrived. But he’s the only manager I know that has consistently every season brought out a new player that becomes world class.

My take is that Pep No-one's job is safe, the moment he's adapting to a new set up that will not need you , he try by all means to push you out - examples are Zinny and Cancelo obviously with 2022/23 season he didnt need them as he adopted to "center-back only" system , hence are both gone ,, the reason he kep Kyle i think its bcz of pace and his unique abilities on 1v1 situations , otherwise he would have been fired. again that decision to keep already paid off , cz he did an excellent job cooling-down Vini on both games. lesson learnt : Even KDB can be released at any point given the new adaptation dont need him!

Regarding youth football, if Pep has trouble of getting professional footballers to understand and appreciate staying in position and how their positioning controls the defense to a certain extent, imagine trying to impose that on 10 year old kids. First at Barca, then at City, both clubs under investigations for discrepancies, be it refereeing or financial. Of course we aren't at a position yet where we can gauge the extent of the advantages those teams got, but surely we must still factor those aspects in.

Getting promotion in his first season one could argue Barcelona B was the Aberdeen of the Spanish lower league. It's true Pep is one of the most fantastic managers ever seen and that other clubs like Chelsea and Man Utd have spent more than City, however City SHOULD be spending less than those teams anyways. In fact, City should be spending significantly less than what they already have consistently spent since their takeover. They're not a prestige club like Man Utd or Liverpool or Arsenal even, or even Everton based on club histories. City aren't a real top tier club historically. They're only at this point now because their Qatari takeover was their catalyst. They'll never truly be a Prestige club, BUT they can pretend and imitate (just like how they have been in recent times)
