There is a bit of Laudrup in every Barca midfielder. He was one of the most influential midfielders ever and way ahead of his time. He also influenced Zidane and Davids. All the CDMs before Laudrup (although he also played CM and CAM) were either ball winners who stopped at the center line or registas who passed from the depth. But Laudrup was a moving anchor who could create multiple moving passing triangles which is an essential part of both Pep's and Busquets' playing styles.

Was Laudrup a CDM? I thought he was a pure CAM?
@brettervonkanada6102
@brettervonkanada6102 Жыл бұрын
@@FIL1994 He started as CDM at Lazio. Then he played CM most of his career but was CDM in Barca before Guardiola made the 1st team. He also played CDM occationally with Juventus and RMA. He was basically a CM who could play all 3 central roles. Even when he played CAM, there was always someone between him and the striker. The point is that he involved all 3-4 midfielders in every aspect of the play which later became tradition in La Masia, that created a role that is now known as the deep lying playmaker (often played at CDM role).

@@FIL1994 yes. But I don't put much weight on such an award. If the writers had given Xavi the award in 2009 and 2010, rightfully so and arguably 2011, then he would have 3 of them. Xavi was at his peak and most impactful from 2007-2012, but even with those performances there were many underlying factors which give Suarez the edge over him.

@@FIL1994 well Barca we're built off great possession, control of pace, quick switches, lots of pitch coverage, great positional play and a lot of vertical motion. Dominant in midfield. The team was built around him and he obviously was the most impactful on both Spain and Barcelona. There is a reason why this dude got all those man of the match awards in those big games during that period. Fans will believe what they want to believe and any discussion with any of them lacks a lot of rational thought and a lot of emotion. They are not to be taken seriously.
@FIL1994

Good point, in today’s game, it’s hard to look past the players that are scoring goals and putting up stats which is why Messi got all the glory from Iniesta and Xavi. It’s like when Van Djik helped Liverpool win Champions League but Messi won Ballondor, people couldn’t fathom why a defender should win the award ahead of Messi who scored 30+ goals.

Pep was a good player but not that great, the player from that legendary Cruyff team that influenced most of these Spanish midfielders was Michael Laudrup.
@FIL1994
@FIL1994 Жыл бұрын
Pep was Cryuffs tactical leader on the field, that’s why Cryuff picked him from the Youth team and put him in the first team. Of course Laudrup was the attacking flair player but Guardila played the Catalan which is why the 4 midfielders I mentioned where all Catalan. They either had challenge to come out of Peps shadow (Xavi), they had the challenge of not being forced to play Peps position (Iniesta), they literally idealised Pep (Fabregas) or they emulated his playing style and position (Basquets)
@SC-bc6tz
@SC-bc6tz Жыл бұрын
I feel like you didn’t watch a lot of full Barca games back then, pep was a ridiculously intelligent player, a great leader, immaculate ball player, I could go on and on. I’d really recommend going back and watching some archive games, not just for pep who was quality (and watching him run a midfield for 90 minutes tells a completely different story to his stats) but for that whole team, it was insane, which is probably why pep doesn’t get the plaudits he deserved along with the fact his managerial career has been so iconic which most likely overshadows his fantastic but not quite as memorable playing career.

Pep was very average as a Barca player, like Arteta is a far better manager then he was a player, so is Pep

I didn’t say Pep was one of the best midfielders, I simply said he was an integral part of a legendary Barcelona team where he out of everyone envisioned the Catalan way of playing.

@@FIL1994 bullshit. Your just name dropping. Laudrop & Stochkov/Romario we’re much more integral to Barca. Pep (no disrespect) was a journey man player, much like Deschamp was. In terms of Barca DNA again not Pep it was Zubizeretta and Ferrer & Nadal who played most games.

How can he be a journey man and play 382 times for Barcelona and win 6 league titles.

@@FIL1994 ask Cantona how Deschaump can be a journey man too! The expression is more of a derogatory term for what you would call a CDM (in todays language) or Nr 6 (in FIFA, a popular computer game language)! Don’t get me wrong, anyone playing for Barca is going to be good, remember, Barca had just won there 1st Champions League (and what a game that was against Vialli & Manchini’s Sampdoria. But not at the same standard as todays Pep’s or Rykaraads Barca

This crazy narrative that xavi couldn't dribble, people obviously didn't watch him play, especially when he was young. Baffling

Yeah the overall point of the video was Pep’s influence on La Masia and how those kids are trained to approach Football. David Silva is from the Valencia region I believe.
