It’s really interesting to see how expensive the collectors side of Pokemon is compared to the competitive side. It has never been cheaper to play the tcg, and never been more expensive to buy packs for the newest set. Most of the top decks in the format are less than 80$ total, and it’s likely getting cheaper. Now if you were to play max rarity, that’s a different story, but I like the fact that at least the competitive side is feasible for university students like me
@nuhwuh3 күн бұрын
i only recently got into the tcg since i could never afford to buy cards anyway, learned through tcg live and it IS SO FUN. absolutely loving it and going to my first local soon!!!
@MrRtisch3 күн бұрын
Its because Creatures makes sure that almost all of the expensive cards are unplayable garbage
@broccolol122 күн бұрын
I mean it makes complete sense with a little bit of critical thought. More collectors and people chasing the expensive cards means more packs being ripped means more availability for everything that isn't an expensive card means cheaper cards for competitive decks.

It's like the 90s comic book market all over again. People would buy dozens or hundreds of copies of comics like Superman #75 - the issue where Superman died after fighting Doomsday - thinking that they would eventually be able to flip them to buy a house or put their kids through college. Instead, they'd be stuck with over-printed worthless paper. Go to any local comic con or shop with a big back-issue section, and you can probably buy Superman #75 for less than original cover price.
@jayestremera923 күн бұрын
Except people arent ripping and shipping comic books. Good try tho.

The reason why Pokemon cards keep going up in this era is because Pokemon targets kids hard. It once almost died in the US but revived when Pokemon GO came out and then got a huge boost when streamers started and continue keep it relevant.
@Jedda6784 күн бұрын
Streamers and influences revitalized the market. Buying up large quantities of booster boxes and packs and selling the valuable ones. They are increasing the demand which I recall a period when you couldn't get any because people were buying them all up in bulk. So now the demand is up, the supply also increased to meet it.
@Rorschachqp4 күн бұрын
@ Actually it was GO first, in around 2013-ish. Before that, Pokemon was almost dead. At that time I started buying Pokemon by the case and going to stores to buy blister packs for Black And White. The mega card stores I went to still had a ton of Plasma. XY Flashfires came out and was huge since it was a Charizard set. After XY was the GX era and interest began to slow but stores still carried Pokemon. THEN Logan Paul during the Sun Moon era started breaking packs on stream, like half a decade later in 2020.

all you need to know is demand. people want Umbreon, that's why the price of Umbreon itself is so high, and in turn the pack you can possibly obtain it in is also increased. that's why other cards even if you think they look cool aren't expensive, because not many people want it
