I do think it is striking that Arno Peters claimed that the Mercator projection is flawed because it shows us a specific cultural and political frame of reference that was prevalent at a certain time in history. In this way he actually politicised a map projection which wasn't first and foremost political, but inspired by navigation. His critique therefore actually did the very thing he was criticising: creating a map projection that makes a political point that is accepted in a certain period in history.

As someone who created maps for a living for 20 years this is a nice intro into bias. I especially liked "the use of white". Maps collate and present the entire history of colour bias e.g. traffic light green + red -, or say colours associated with illness e.g. yellows and blues and use them to indoctrinate.
