In master 8 battle Alain's mega Charizard was defeated by Leon's normal Charizard with 1 single Dragon Pulse without any phenomenon. And don't forget Ash's Charizard has dragon type moves as well. And he also trains with Ash's other fire type Pokemon in oak's lab. He must have learned new moves. People always underestimate Ash's Charizard because he doesn't have mega evolution,in fact Ash's Charizard will never get mega form. But if a Pokemon is not strong in base form then extra 100 stats is useless. We will see Charizard's power if he returns. Because Pokemon company ignoring it for almost 10 years now!

(That articuno in lugia movie was only using a single attack(ice beam).
