He was disintegrated, became the purest form of matter, then he reintegated himself. Matter = Universe, Manhattan is basically the embodiment of the universe. That's why the concept of atoms as a superpower will always be something hard to work, how can you impose limits for the own universe? Dr. Manhattan ended up as a decent character because Moore is a superb writer, but most of these characters are lame as hell. Just look at Captain Atom, firestorm, Molecule Man, etc.. You forgot to mention DM's weakness(es?) and limitations. 1) Ozymandias figured out producing tachyons prevents him from seeing the future. 2) It is also discussed in Watchmen, that the Russians would soon have more nuclear missiles than he would be able to stop. So he can't change everything at once. And presumably there's limits to what he can put back together, or he'd just destroy the russians and bring back anyone they killed with their missiles. 3) He is not capable of time-travel, merely remembering things he has 'yet' to experience. Not all-seeing, he just see's what he's going to see, before he actually sees it. Got it?

Hi, theoretical physicist here. Saw the vid, instantly thought of how it misunderstands fundamental aspects of Dr Manhattan's being in relation to time and space. Disclaimer: I have only read the original work by Alan Moore (and a number of comments below, filling me in on stuff from later installments). However, to me it does not leave much room for "extra" abilities. Anything created after the original obviously takes some liberties with the frankly solid understanding of physics represented in the original, in order to weave more material to sell for big cash. But the cynicist in me digresses. So: in the original Watchmen, Dr Manhattan, as stated in some of the comment threads, does say that he is aware of time as part of the fabric of reality, which is really just saying he experiences (if one can say such a being experiences things at all) time like we experience one of the three spatial dimensions of everyday life. I think anyone who knows basic special relativity would agree on this. If one could experience time from an outside perspective like this, instead of being subjected to traveling along the time axis as humans do, one could reasonably say that time is simultaneous, as in that the beginning and end of time itself would be laid bare, much like the edges of the physical universe (we are, for the sake of argument, assuming such limits exist in the first place) "are there to see" for us, theoretically, at any moment. Even though the very concept of simultaneity becomes meaningless when one starts considering relativity. This does *NOT* mean that there is one singular "timestream" or whatever, as in he would know exactly what will happen from start to finish. Relativity is quite distinct from the branching nature of reality on the quantum level, which is where as far as I can tell, the limits of Dr Manhattan's powers lie: he cannot manipulate the fundamental probabilistic nature of reality - as heard from himself when he marvels at the (for all intents and purposes) limitless genetic matchups which comprise life. IIRC, he can, however, see all possible spacetimes, or universes, branching from every other point in spacetime, or any "snapshot" of any other universe. This ability can apparently be interfered with, as demonstrated by Ozymandias' scheme. I would argue this possibly makes him omniscient, even if he still is not omnipotent. The question remains if he is truly omniscient, or just knows everything in a limited surrounding of his physical manifestation (in space, not time). The real question(s) become if such a being can even be said to possess a sentience as we conceive of it, and if he ever could be said to manipulate anything, since he is already aware of any and all alterations he could execute, and their consequences. Knowing what Dr Manhattan knows and experiencing reality as he does, would probably alter the notion about he himself having free will. However, I see it like this: he knows all possible outcomes of all possible realities, but can still choose which thread he experiences, since, I assume, in whatever way he exists, it is not outside of spacetime; he cannot experience several realities at once since he exists in one himself, even if he is aware of them. Mind you, this part is entirely my own interpretation, but I think it makes his character deliver a powerful message, which resounds with his statement in his last exchange with Rorschach about not being able to change "human nature": he himself is affected by, or directed by it. He goes from a state of possibly being overwhelmed by his new mode of existence and just becoming an unfeeling observer, to choosing to exist along a path in reality where he can express distinctly human qualities, such as caring for others and life in general. Rorschach still has a valid point in that he could just as well have intervened at an earlier point in spacetime, but maybe he knows that would not end well, or... well, who knows? Or maybe I'm completely mistaken about his motivations. Because really, how would any human possibly even try to imagine the inner workings of the mind of such an entity? The very prospect is ridiculous. Any assumptions about interacting with reality must be thrown out. Cool dong tho /end rant

I don't think so. AMAZO operates on nanite technology which allows him to duplicate peoples powers that are more physical based. Super strength, energy projection, etc. He could copy some abilities to a degree, but I doubt he could copy them all. Why? The very fact that anyone could do anything in your universe means YOU *ALLOWED* that to happen. If The Presence doesn't do anything to stop it, means that it is the will of The Presence that it does. If The Presence doesn't want something to happen, it won't. Think of it as being the author of a story...

Really two reasons: 1: Presence is very, very lax. He let's free will play out, and only really intervenes when beings are using his power to intervene (aka, pulling the Spectre's leash). 2: Really, changing one universe's timeline is rather un-note worthy for The Presence, Lucifer, & Michael. It's like if you run a country, and someone remodeled a house.
