Yup, thats kind of how it works for every ring, the fewer lanterns the more power each remaining lantern gets on top of what they could already wield themselves, since he's the only Orange Lantern he gets all the possible power from the lantern, making him probably the single strongest individual lantern.

Little sad fact: those that wear the Orange ring are heavily influenced by it's power. You could be the most generous person in the universe but the moment you put that ring on you'll be filled with nothing but greed. And that greed is the reason why there's only one Orange Lantern. There were a lot of them at one time. However, their own greed for power made them kill each other. The more rings you had the stronger you got and eventually when there was no one left to kill, only one Orange Lantern remained. And that's why there can only be one Orange Lantern at a time.

I don’t know if theyve done this, but a cool start to a new story in DC would be: A bright blinding Orange streak pierces across the galaxy, and enters the earth’s atmosphere and when it lands it blows up a city or something crazy killing tens of thousands. At the same time, Larfleeze comes tumbling into OA screaming like a mad man, almost like Gollum for LOTR. The Green lanterns surround him, and maybe Hal and John happen to be on Oa, and they go to talk and all he can say is “ITS GONE, SOMEONES HUNGER IS GREATE THAN MINE” or something dramatic like that. Meanwhile back on earth, the JL is trying to sort out the happenings of the explosion, and maybe we have a minor hero from the extended team be one of the rescue team members, and he accidentally comes into contact with the new owner of the orange ring and they kill him and then use him to attack the other rescue team members. I don’t know the rest of the story cuz im making it up as i type but yeah, if this hasn’t been done before, i’d love to see it! Basically a new orange ring bearer whose greed and avarice is so much more deadlier than Larfleeze. To a point that maybe it starts even trying to consume planets or something? I don’t know.
