I’ve had such similar thoughts and frustrations as you with 3x3. I know it has to do with nerves because I don’t get it with any other event that I don’t care as much about. I try to go easy on myself because I actually think luck is a big factor - how my fingers are feeling on the day, the environment (noise, temp), the time of day… but certainly it doesn’t take much to get myself out of “flow state”. Really appreciate your tips here but most of all your positive attitude, whether or not you did well. Thanks Brody.

This is so relatable. I feel that I turn a lot worse in comps cuz I'm constantly thinking about how I can mess up. Thanks for the advice and I'll for sure use it next time I compete!

Great video Brody! I'd like to add that feeling revved up before an important performance is a sign that you DO care about the result. As Brody says in the video, there's no point in trying to pretend that you don't care. Even though it's counter-intuitive, you might even try embracing the fact that it's important to you. This will motivate you to prepare and plan in advance--although don't overdo it--and then when it's time to perform you will know that you've done everything you can. Just remember that great preparation and planning don't guarantee positive results. Take ownership of what you can control and let go of the rest.

I have never watched your channel before but really admire your attitude and impressed with your solves. I am probably older than your dad and just learned how to solve Roux and CFOP but still above 2 minutes LOL. Brain and fingers don’t work as quick as they used to, but I still enjoy the solving. Thanks and subbed.

I can definitely relate to the nerves. Nerves have ruined my 3x3 results many times. At my last comp, I was super nervous and this was the first time I got into the finals, my first solve was a DNF (didn’t start the timer 😭) After that, I got really mad and during the next solve my turning was trash, I got a pop and ended up with a 1 minute solve. 🤦♂️ Anyways, I told my self that it really didn’t matter any more, and I really wasn’t mad or nervous anymore. My last solve was a 11.06 PR single! The only reason that I got that PR was because I truly didn’t care. Sorry for rambling on. Thanks for this video and I can’t wait to see what’s coming up next from you. My favorite cuber is back!

Be honest with yourself about how much you care. If you don't care then whatever, but if you do care, then set yourself up to succeed, and if you can't, manage yourself to expectations. Most importantly, practice the way you'll compete, and make sure you will going to compete the way you practice. -Brody the Cuber This is very motivational, and will greatly help me for my first comp. Congratulations and Good job, Brody!! ♥️

Thank you so much, Brody! I am going to my 2nd ever comp in a little less than a month, and my times dropped almost half to what I had in 2022, on the comp. (I was 9 or 10), now I'm 11. Thank you so much again I am practicing hard and you made my day! Awesome tips, and I had a frickin' 48 in comp last time because of nerves (I averaged sub 38 by then). Your tutorials helped me to go to almost full PLL, about to go and watch your Ra and Rb perm tutorials, and Gs, too. Bye! Ps I subbed
