1. Lensometer: The lens prescription is verified from the lab. The optical center of the lens is dotted. This is how we line up the cylinder on correct axis and line up the optical center with the PD given. This allows for the best optics.
2. Tracing: The demo lenses are removed from the frame and placed into the tracer. There is a needle which will follow the frame and a picture of the shape will show up on the screen.
3. Blocking: The PD is entered into the tracer and the center of the lens and the PD are lined up here using the dots from before. A blocker is added to the lens so it can be held into the grinder.
4. Grinding: The trace is loaded into the edger and the lens is placed inside. The machine grinds the lens into the correct shape.
5. Unblocking
6. Safety Bevel: The lens edges can be sharp so a safety bevel is applied to every lens before mounting.
7. Mounting: The finished lenses are inserted into the frame

@@specialized29er86 for the plastic lens they are cut using normal scissors to make the glasses the closest to the frame then using the same tool that's used for the safety bevel is used to make the cut lens fit into the frame for the glass lens, there are special cutter scissors used to cut the lens then it's sharpened to fit the frame

The groove is a standard size. The groove is cut towards the front of the lens no matter the rx so the thickness of the lens will be toward the back.

you know the actual LENSES depending on which ones you get are anywhere from 5 dollars to 15 at most. but usually 2 to 10 dollars are normal. but they will sell to you for about 50 up to 200 dollars or more for lenses. a TOTAL RIP OFF. Frames too. Just because they put a name brand on the frame, they will charge you 300 to 500 dollars.. and actually MOST of them are all made at the same place anyway. eyeglasses are a HUGE markup

I used to use the exact same lensometer, tracer, blocker, and edger. In fact, I have a video of this AIT edger on my page. The reason I have a video of it is because of the "music" it makes while the feelers are tracing the lens. I've never had an edger make "music" like this and I've used several different edgers over the 20 years I've been doing this.

Soccer Unbox TV - They have to wait for the lenses to arrive from the factory. The store can’t grind the prescription onto the lense and they are only in charge of fitting the lenses onto the frame.
@soccerunboxtv5771
@soccerunboxtv5771 6 жыл бұрын
Obese Hank Not necessarily. It could be because they are ordering them through your insurance and need to wait for it to go through. Or the other scenario is the prescription lens isn’t in stock. I got my glasses prescribed and they put a rush on them because i needed them in 4 days for a sporting event, and I picked them up an hour after I left the office.
@KiwiSama
@KiwiSama 6 жыл бұрын
@@soccerunboxtv5771 Not everyone has a "normal" prescription. If you have a sphere of less than -6 or +4, or an astigmatism over -2, you have to get those custom made. People will stock lenses with that parameter, but anyone outside those bounds, a manufacturing lab will have to surface it. And after it's surfaced, it takes from hours to days to apply an anti-reflective coating. This is simply just how the lenses are edged, the very final step. Not everything before. I hope this answers your question.

What about the initial shape of the lens, though? How do you apply diopter and astigmatism cylinder corrections, or make base-curve adjustments to the lens before cutting it?
@MartinNeep
@MartinNeep 2 жыл бұрын
A stock lens is chosen that matches the spherical and cylindrical component of the patient’s prescription. It is then inspected with the lensometer and orientated so that it’s position matches the axis of the patient’s prescription. The three red dots placed on the lens allow the optician to mount an edging chuck, so that the edging machine cuts the frame shape that matches the cyl. axis.

Too little explanations. What is he aiming for in the scope when "the optical center of the lens is dotted"? It seems the lens has no marks to start with. Is the optical center always the same as the geometric center? Or is the scope capable to find the true optical center using some special light source? The PD is enough to align the frame and the lens horizontally, but it does not tell anything about how a particular frame is going to rest on a particular nose, hence no vertical alignment, which should be important for progressive lenses. And what if the user has an asymmetrical nose? How does the blocker cling to the lens?
@hermitdash
@hermitdash 8 жыл бұрын
Q1: Depending on if there is astigmatism or not its just 2 pairs of lines that you line up in the corsairs. All lenses come unmarked and usually is done manually. Q2: Not always the same but usually. The scope has a dial that you scroll up and down to view until the optical center is clear on lens. It varies from person to person which is why adjustments to the frame is made to position the lenses with one's eyes. The blocker clings to the lens via adhesive pad that is removable.

1. lenses are in boxes ready to go. 2. they are trayed up.. put in trays. order entry takes care of that.. the trays move to the lab. 3. the lenses are BLOCKED.. a small metal block is attached to the back of the lens.. the block is so it can be manipulated in the machines. 4. the tray is moved to the generator which cuts the prescription into the lens. 5. the tray moves to the too pullers.. who divide the trays between plastic and poly... does anyone want to know the rest ?
