Fantastic video...this is what really is gonna separate you from the pack. There are tons of colorists out there...but if you can do this fast and CONSISTENTLY, the sky is the limit. Thanks for the great content!

Anotehr great video man! Loving the content as always. Any chance you could do a deep dive on luminance mapping? Luminance mapping on the output CST from DWG to REC 709 seems to rob a lot of color and detail from the image. Working in both braw and clog3. I transform into DWG/D intermediate to make all my adjustments, then output CST to Rec 709 gamma 2.4. Luminance mapping controls the highlight exposure great, but robs so much color and detail that I can't seem to get back easily or cleanly.

Love that video. Thank you so much for the footage. Would love to see more QT videos. Your next video could be: How to grade long clips where the environment changes often. Like in the movie 1917.

I have done vids on that topic. Look it up.

Hey Qazi, any tips on how to find initial work as a colourist? I would love to know how you started out! Huge huge fan btw and your content has been indescribably helpful 😎😎

IMHO...just work. Probably for free. I just rang up filmmaker friends and said "Hey you know that short doc you made that I edited. I'm learning to color grade...can I grade it for free?" I did that 3-4 times with friends...and then from that I built up a color reel which is on my website and in the last 3 months I've gotten 3 paid color jobs. They're not HUGE...but you're not gonna get giant corporate clients right off the bat. You're going to have to start small and build. I've been doing it for maybe 6 months now...and I'm not at an expert level but I'm miles past where I was in the summer when I was learning what nodes are and how curves work and what power windows are. Also buy a color panel...that's gamechanging. The new Blackmagic panel is on sale right now...if you can grab that, it's going to be critical in stepping up your workflow.

@@Matein13 Hey man thanks for the advice, I was thinking working for free for a while is the best way to get in the game. Really appreciate the time you took to respond! Wish you all the best on your journey as well :))

@@Matein13finally someone that realises you need to work for free to start with. The amount of people that expect to get paid when they’re just starting out is ridiculous. It doesn’t work like that.

Something I don't really get when creating the groups. If you have Slog3 footage for example - and you want to work in a Davinci Wide timeline color space. Do you CST from Slog3 to DWG & then in the post from DWG to REC709? Will it then properly convert your Slog3 to Rec709 whilst taking your changes in between properly?
@PTFWWDBАй бұрын
I can never keep track of Post and Pre Group I always end up just manually fixing individual clips

I believe there’s also a setting in the preference tab where you can set luma mix to zero by default for each project
