Just wanted to say I’m glad I found your channel! You’re helping me get deeper into Prog! I’m a late comer to the genre (mostly because I was born 20 years after prog “started”) and your vids are helping to guide me through this new world! Man there’s just so much good music out there to hear. My giant stack of CDs is growing larger by the day haha. Keep up the good work, I look forward to your new videos!

My story is not as dramatic as yours, but has a couple similar elements. I played saxophone in high school band so in my junior year joined a band with some guys and we covered an assortment of stuff like Chicago and Traffic hits; Will It Go Round In Circles by Billy Preston; etc. My one big lead in our show was during the slow middle section of the Doobie's Jesus Is Just Alright. Good times. But we never got past playing field day at the school or the local teen club on Saturday or second place at the area Battle of the Bands. Same thing happened again in college with a different group with about the same results even though I was by then goofing on piano as well as sax and there was more actual song writing. Eventually, rather than let my six years of undergraduate college go down the drain, I got a real job as a production manger ordering print publications for the university. I did that production crap for 34 years, including all night press checks and the like. After the sax sat in the attic for a couple of decades I sold it a few years back. But four years ago I was finally able to retire with a state pension and have been working on building the movie and music collection I always wanted ever since. Life is good! Rock on, Scot! Glad your life was saved so you could become my personal progtologist. Your general emphasis on retro or classic style symphonic prog comes closer to my own interests than anyone else so I look forward to you keeping me informed.

Music is redemption, Scot. Our lives are full with the melody of redemption. The bad moments of our lives are full of tonal, flat notes, that can only be filled with the redemptive "peace and love" of the folks who get us. Those folks are our loved ones and the music that gets us. Sigur Ros and the Flaming Lips saved my life after my brother died. Frank Zappa, Django Reinhardt, Yes and David Bowie saved my friends life from further jail and drug addiction. Progressive music will always be important as it inspires, it gives our brains the adversity it needs. This adversity teaches us that life is beautiful, once we figure out the mathematical code to it all. Music = emotion + mathematics. None of us can do it alone.

The Soft Bulletin is a very special album for me. It came out at a very bad time in my life and its impact on me has been profound. As far as Sigur Ros goes: genius.

@@TheProgCorner The line from.the song the Gash, "will the fight for our sanity, be the fight of our lives?" chokes me up every time. A friend and I were trying to develop a rock opera around the Soft Bulletin, unfortunately he took his own life, so yeah the Soft Bulletin. Abandoned Ship Bells from Clouds Taste Metallic chokes me up, too. I met Wayne at Alex Grey's place, Chapel of Sacred Mirrors. Great artist, he did a few of the Tool album covers. Also, Scot, thanks for the share on your past. That type of honesty may mean you are no longer "risk adverse." Thanks, man!

As a teen in the seventies, I grew up with a steady diet of prog: Yes, Genesis, Gentle Giant, Supertramp, Jethro Tull, Rush. I drifted away from prog in college and towards new wave and punk. Then career, family and other interests took over and I no longer found listening to music a worthwhile pursuit. Fast forward to the lockdowns. I found myself with too much time on my hands (Styx :). I started rediscovering the greats of the past through YT and Reaction channels. Long story short, I discovered new prog. Steven Wilson's The Raven Who Refused to Sing and Spock's Beard's V were two of the albums that relit the passion for music I had as a teen, and for that I'll be forever grateful. So, although I appreciate all types of music, prog will be the music I die with.
@TheProgCorner2 жыл бұрын
The Raven and V, huh? You could do a lot worse!!! I had heard SB’s The Light way back when it first came out and wasn’t super excited about it. After Transatlantic I went back and OMG!!! V and The Kindness Of Strangers killed me. Hooked. ❤️👍🤘

Then about 2 years ago i was 13-14 i heard the guitar riff for Bastille day by rush and i was blown away. I listened to the whole caress of steel album. Slowly but surely, i listened to a lot of rush and just prog in general. Then i got interested in other genres. I am definitely grateful for prog. Prog is my favorite genre for music ever. :)
