How wonderful that you are doing this! Always remember that "your" way is the most important. Sometimes "mistakes" are what makes the project special and uniquely yours. Points don't always come together. So what. I have been pinning at the junction where the seams "nest" and then gently easing (stretching) the fabric as you sew. There is a limit to how much you can compensate for by doing this but it often works a charm. Keep the good work!! Love the boat!

Great job on the ship wall hanging. Suggestion about the seams; how you made the half square triangles could have created the issue. Those squares need to be bigger and then trimmed to 4.5” especially if making 2 at a time. The other issue could just be inconsistent 1/4” seams. You are learning quickly and brave to tackle ruler work and free motion quilting so soon. Have a blessed week and keep on learning new skills.
@barryquilts

I’m enjoying following your adventures! It’s interesting to be reminded of what it’s like for a newbie just learning. I had many of the same surprises. One big hurdle for me was the impression that other people are the experts and I might never get off square one, because I had to know everything before I could get going. Now I know that is just not so, and I applaud those who just start somewhere and jump in. That’s what you are doing and it’s great to see. I will definitely send you a button soon! Oh and by the way, I’m glad you are on a new project without being concerned about the last one being completed. I love your fabric choices for the wall hanging! What a great gift for your grandson! Sometimes half-square triangles skew just a little bit because of the bias (diagonal) being the most stretchy part of the fabric (even if you don't notice it while sewing, they may stretch the tiniest bit, taking them out of square), and/or because the bulk of the fabric at the point may cause a tiny irregularity in the seam between the HST and the next block, and this takes the squares off true just a bit. As for starch, if it works for you, you're in good company with many quilters. For me, I never use starch because it adds a step to the process, and because I sewed garments for years before I began quilting (fabric for garment sewing is rarely if ever starched) so I got used to working with un-starched fabrics.

Good choice of fabric. As far as the edges curling, I live in a high desert so no or little humidity. Maybe if you live where the humidity is high that caused it. Did you let the starch dry before ironing and use a dry no steam iron? I use cheap starch, the one you can get at Walmart. I use a 50/50 blend water to starch. The button club sounds interesting.

you did a great job and as far as your points they look good to me. you have to realize quilts will have mistakes and if someone looks for every mistake they need to just leave the quilting alone. keep quilting and I think your doing a great job. I make prayer quilts and I straight stich them with a walking foot and also do quilt as you go. I havent got brave enough yet to stitch with FMQ. Ive practiced some on practice squares but never tried it on my quilts yet. good luck on stiching with the rulers.

I just love the selection of fabrics you chose for this great pattern - the 'wave' quilting will look so cool too. What a wonderful invitation to become a member of the Memory Makers Button Club! I hope your jar fills to the brim. I've pulled out some quilt blocks I've had for a while that need some hand stitching.... you've inspired me to get going, even though I'm starting small, and that's ok with me.

Starch before you cut anything, it does shtink minimally, so for accuracy, before. They hang on a nappy rack in your bathroom then, web piecing is in columns. Everything stays the right way around, then you just turn it and sew the other way. Stretching a bit is fudging, it will shrink again when you wash it. Ever heard of scant seams? Leaving the seam allowances a bit short works too.

Your ship looks great - I love the fabric choices! And the corners shouldn't match when it's a boat on the open waters - everything is rocking and moving there 😂🧡 I am a bit surprised your daughter was allowing that type of prank. Usually women know what it's like to have creepy messages and forceful attitudes from guys, all of our lives. I'm glad it ended up as a prank but I hope he learns not to do this to the ladies - in person or online (yep, I definitely had some small flashbacks when you were telling the story).

@barryquilts Oh no, you're okay and don't worry about that - keep being your wonderful charming self and tell your stories. 🥰 Comments from people who definitely need medication (or at least to have their levels checked) is why I haven't started my channel yet. The minor flashbacks of aggressive guys also is because it still happens even though I am now 52 living around older people! Luckily most men are not in that category of crazy.
