I can almost guarantee that this chapter will get animated in season 3. I think the studio chose to end season 2 on an unambiguously happy note, much like they did with the original run of season 1 (where they left out the "Who is Rem" cliffhanger). But there is no way that they're going to just leave out the fact that Echidna is up and about again and has the other witches with her. Especially with the mystery of who Emilia's mother is still out there, not to mention her promise to Minerva to have a teaparty with all of them in the future ... oh, and just the fact that they are all absolutely amazing characters, there is no way the writer ISN'T using them in future story arcs. And, that being the case, the anime HAS to show where they are and how they got there, which necessitates them showcasing Omega and her leaving the sanctuary. Also, considering that this is a fan favorite chapter, and White Fox has show how much they are uber-fans of the source material, I can't imagine them NOT animating this chapter in the future. However, narrative-wise, it's bad form to end a season on a massive cliffhanger when you don't know when the next season will be coming out. I think White Fox made the right move with how they ended season 2, providing a much-needed cathartic release and relief from an already anxiety-ridden second season.

That would be a horrible place to just randomly insert that information IMO. We don't need stuff to come out of nowhere; one of the greatest things about Arc 4 (especially in the web novel) was how much it foreshadowed stuff: igniting a lot of speculation, but leaving plenty of room for it as well. The place for the Echidna scene is *here*, not some time in the future to be like "oh she is not actually stuck in the Sanctuary at all, she escaped using one of the Ryuzu clones, isn't that awesome". This is the same situation as with a lot of the information and subtle teases about Satella that were left out. Is it directly relevant to the story *right now*? No. But it excites the imagination, makes you suspect some things but not know for sure; future events are still going to be exciting and surprising, and if you made some good predictions too, that fact in itself is going to be satisfying as well. The anime compared to the novels (even the light novel, but especially the web novel) left out a LOT of such details. This is the same reason why I consider, for all that the LN is more polished, the WN the superior version of Arc 4. So many things hinting at the history of the world, the Witches, Satella, Subaru, Puck, the general workings of the world, teasing stuff not directly revealed for many arcs to come. The "bad ends" in the 2nd Trial, the interludes with the Witches talking to each other, Roswaal and Subaru's discussion about OL at the end (those who read it will know what the abbreviation means). And even within the storyline of this arc, I find that it was better structured in the WN, things had been better prepared for, and plot points were better followed up on. For example: 1. We see the Witch of Envy be capable of forcefully invading Echidna's dream world after the 1st Trial, and Sekhmet has an active role there in driving her off, despite the limited role she plays later. 2. We find out what one of Daphne's eyes do, following up on Echidna's warning to Subaru. 3. It is established using Satella's case that "incompatible" Witch Factors can cause a breakdown of one's mind, thus setting up the ground for us directly seeing it in Petelgeuse's case later. 4. Subaru subconsciously uses Unseen Hand when Garfiel first attacks him in his tiger form, and this is the way he manages to get away by surprising him, no magical teleportation necklace required (the teleporting necklace thing is, in fact, altogether new in the LN, presumably added to speed up the plot; otherwise Subaru needed to enter the Tomb in the old-fashioned way, scouting the place before Emilia goes there). He doesn't realize what he's done exactly, only that Garfiel was somehow pushed away, being shocked at that, and neither do we know for certain, but we can potentially guess based on the fact that Echidna did something with his Sloth Witch Factor, and Petelgeuse's authority. And indeed we find out the details later, in their fight during the final loop. 5. We (and Subaru) realize that Beatrice is somehow connected to the Sanctuary because she deposits him there, in the facility housing Ryuzu using Door Crossing after one of their encounters in an earlier loop. This also sets up that she has the ability for her to travel there directly (which is to be used later), and clues us and Subaru into her connection with Echidna. 6. After that, Subaru also sees that something is up in the Sanctuary as he can't find anyone. Eventually, he gets instantly killed by a rabbit straight-up jumping through him before he can realize what happened. But this makes us and him know not everything is alright there either, and the *something* is loose in there. We don't find out more about the rabbits until the scene we had in the anime, but it is not the story just pulling rabbits out of its hat, so to say. When I read Arc 4 in the WN, I found it ingenious and considered it a masterpiece. The LN I saw as a step down in many ways, even if an improvement in certain areas. The anime left out yet more elements I considered important, though also elevated other parts by virtue of the audiovisual experience. And that is not to say that I didn't love the anime a lot, because I certainly did. I just loved the WN version so absurdly much that other things don't really compare.

@@taederias1804 there is a reason the WN was pulled when the author signed the contract with the publisher. The 1st being that it's no longer valid as a source. The anime is adapted from the LN. Seeing as the LN cut out a lot of the things you like during editing I can understand why you say there are more stuff in it you like. But all that was cut for a reason, open plot lines, dead ends, repetitive material, pacing, polishing of the story, etc... the list goes on. Which means any WN you're still reading isn't official for one. Also I've seen where others did their own editing and expansions during translation. Making it fan fiction instead of the authors actual work. There's a ton of reasons why the WN that you're reading is invalid. The 1st and most valid point being they are all illegal since the original was pulled down some time ago. Having said all of that brings me to my point. When it comes to adapting a novel to visual media not everything needs to be so in you're face. If you didn't catch that Echidna escaped death and inhabits the body of a certian pink loli maybe you weren't paying enough attention. Or maybe it's just over your head. Subtlety is a valuable tool in visual storytelling. All the little details that are Given and probably missed by the inattentive. Also where something is placed throughout the novel may not be the best place to tell the story visually. A lot of the things people are complaining about will probably be placed back in at a later time in the story and probably in a different way that isn't so obvious that it's from an earlier time. I dont think every time Subaru comes across someone that he thought was dead they will have a flashback to skipped material, but have a different way altogether to place the info in. And if they do a flashback...so be it. This is a story about looping through time. I haven't seen any flashback that's been unnecessary to the story yet, nor have they felt out of place. So relax and enjoy the vision we are given. It will all be revealed in due time.

Not only is the WN available at its official site (in Japanese), it is ACTIVELY BEING CONTINUED in the most recent arc (beyond the LN), with the most recent chapter being posted TODAY. The translations of the web novel are, as far as I have ever checked, faithful to the original material. I don't know what you have against the WN, it is perfectly fine to prefer the LN or the anime, but *stop spreading misinformation*.

Based on the explanation of this video, the reincarnation of Echidna is somewhat not yet important on what is going to happen in Season 3. Maybe that is why they decided not to include it yet cause people might expect to watch her more on the next season. I think what they are planning to do is when Subaru will meet Omega, that is the time he will learn that she is Echidna, and then they will show the backstory on what happened in the Sanctuary after the liberation.

Ok call me crazy but Echidna seems to react more so than plan. As in she exits the Sanctuary and she is like "oh so Betty is happy, Roswall is sad, and Garfiel is angry-joyful so this is how events will play out" and then she goes on to do whatever it is she plans to. I have a feeling that rather than Echidna being one of the big bads she will be an important piece for Re:Zero's happy ending (my guess is Subaru will explain to her why love must always fade).

Thanks for the great video! I absolutely love Echidna, so I was especially looking forward to this part as well. Disappointed it was skipped, but I'll keep my hopes up for OVA, maybe. All the interactions with Echidna this season (especially in book) felt like she was definitely had something more than just a potential contract with Subaru in her mind. That last chapter could've been a perfect conclusion to this season and would give Echidna her deserved respect. Instead, from anime perspective it looked like she just gave up after Subaru rejected her and that's it. Not everybody catched Ryuzu's voice and those who did brushed it off quickly. So there's either will be an OVA or Director's cut. Or maybe White Fox are simply not sure they will animate more than a few seasons and reach Echidna again. Oh well, at least there's books. Can't wait for the Best Girl to get back to main plot and learn more of her secrets.

Makes you wonder if Omega can use the Greed Authority. The author revealed that she is unable to use: Minerva, Typhon, Daphen, Carmilla and Sekhmet’s authority’s. But what happened to her one? After all there are people who have their authorities and yet the Witches were able to use their Authorities in the Witches Tea Party while others: Regulus/Subaru, Lye/Roy/Louis, Subaru/Betelgeuse and Sirius have their Authorities and yet they still have it. Typhon with taking apart Subaru’s body, Minerva healing him. Daphne making him eat his arm, Carmilla using faceless bride as Rem, and Sekhmet using invisible hand. So do they still have their authorities while others have a degraded version of them? Also side note: Tappei said that all the Witches of Sin will return in the final arc, the 12th Arc. Meaning that Omega was somehow able to find a way to restore their original bodies from whatever state they’re in or has done what Echidna did to Shima or has found a way to create artificial bodies for them to inhabit.

I think cutting that scene was actually a good move editing wise. A cliffhanger would of detracted from Subarus muchly deserved triumph. Also the cliffhanger leads directly into a side story. I think they are reserving that scene for an OVA or a movie centered around Omega.

Arc 4 ends with this cliffhanger as a last chapter for arc 4 but it's not relevant in next 3 arcs so it's no problem
