Fair enough to say soul is genderless. We need to respect and accept the gender we’re born with. Not to assign or assume a gender what we feel like on a given day which is becoming problematic in society.

In the main I think this is correct. However, there is also the inertia created by experiences in which heterosexual contact was unavailable, as for example in monasteries, long sea voyages and prisons. Once that experience is had, it creates a mental impression with the urge to repeat it, and a cycle is launched. This would hardly be the only explanation, but I think it may be a significant factor.
