I'm beginning to lose a bit of respect for MSI. Had this laptop for aprox 2yrs, paid over $2000 for it. Started to get the GPU fan "rattling issue" until the fan eventually completely burnt out on me about 4months ago. After some research and online shopping I bought a whole new OEM GPU fan assembly with fresh thermal compound paste and all. Did a full replacement with zero issues and made sure to take my time and be very deliberate in my steps so not to break or ruin anything inside of the laptop. 3 months later after a fresh new GPU replacement and this issue has started happening AGAIN... seriously cannot believe the quality on this laptop and how much trouble it has decided to give me. Definitely not worth the $2000+ with this problem since I cant even use it for the intended purpose of gaming. Ill be writing MSI about this and I will demand again a new fan assembly that better last me more than 3 months, I expect a year at the minimum. Lesson learned for everyone, be sure to do some serious back end research on common issues and flaws before dropping a large purchase on a gaming laptop please. Do not be fooled by elegant aesthetics or hyped up specifications, its not worth it in the end for a laptop that you spend more time fixing than using.

I mean if you've had it for 2 years then it's expected for the fan to need a replacement, imo...I'm currently dealing with the same problem. I have no idea why the problem still persists with you after you've replaced the fan, however...I surely hope it doesn't happen to me too as I have no idea what I'll do if I lose my laptop right now... Researching is very good, of course, I spent like 2-3 months trying to find the perfect laptop before I stopped on MSI's gs65. I've had it for 2 years just like you and it now started having this problem as well. You can't research "common issues and flaws" thou cuz 2 years ago the laptop was brand new...nobody had this laptop for 2+ years to tell what issues it would have. We are those people right now that give those who would buy it 2 years later feedback haha. Anywho, just my 2 cents...hopefully it's worked out for you eventually, and hopefully, it will work out for me when I replace it myself. Would like to hear an update on your situation on what you did after the problem occurred again after the replacement.

@@delyan5977 I don't agree with you. 3 years before, i bought Dell 7567 i5-7300HQ with research. I saw the MSI's advert gaming aesthetic look. Clearly it was saying to me "cheaper on inside".
@Toffie474 жыл бұрын
@@delyan5977 There is 0 reason why a fan on a premium laptop should only last 2 years, 5 years is a MINIMUM expectation, with possible life way beyond that.
@delyan59774 жыл бұрын
@@Toffie47 I mean, I'm not the biggest tech guy so I wouldn't know. But at the same time, imo, it depends on how u use ur laptop as well. If you're using it at its full potential every day by using software such as Revit, sketchup, lumion, etc which I use for architecture then it'll prolly give out sooner. Using the laptop to browse the internet n watch Netflix will prolly keep it alive for decades Lol. But that's just my 2 cents.
@delyan59774 жыл бұрын
@@tromick I mean the laptop's pretty solid and it's been great for me. I don't have anything to compare it to, however, as I dislike laptops and I only bought one cuz I started travelling a lot. All I was saying was that u can't research something that just came out which was the case for this particular model back 2 years ago.

I had the issue with fans like 4 times already. So tired of fixing it every time. After the first one broke, the next replacements started to having the same issue in a month or so. This laptop is a nightmare for me already. Can't count the times I had to disassemble the thing after I heard that noise. Just saw the comment from Angelo down below. I have the exact same issue. Also the Gpu fan, also started after 2 years of using it. Absolutely agree with his conclusion. I was really enjoying the aesthetics of it, because it's the first gaming laptop that wasn't the ugliest thing inb the world. Only after 2 years I discovered the issue with cooling. In conclusion, if You are not traveling, do not buy it, its not worth it. After 4 years I'm having issues with cooling system and keyboard and audio jacks, almost every key on the left side is broken, so I had to replace them as well.

I had this sound issue when it was like 10 months old, but then it seemingly just stopped itself. It's been running for another 4 months since without that issue - I think it may have been caused by dust or something else. Haven't taken it apart to check it out, but having heat issues and the dragon centre tells me all 3 are running.
@lapfix4 жыл бұрын
We have seen a lot of fans in this model go bad, it would be best to keep an eye on it as if the fan isn't running at optimal efficiency the cpu/gpu may be cooking itself and you may experience issues over time.

It's really hard to say nowadays. Lots of computers come with non-removable parts. If you don't need a graphics card, try to avoid ones that have one. Get a laptop with a removable ssd, RAM, and lots of ventilation or thick heatsink. Try to avoid fanless too
@sathishvasudev17524 жыл бұрын
Hey, I've been using the laptop for a year now. The GPU fan kinda makes fluctuating noise (It powers up for 5 seconds and then powers down - this repeats for every 30 secs). The noise has started to get annoying, it's been there for a couple of months now. The dragon center shows 0 RPM for fan 3, even if it is running. Am I facing the same problem, mentioned in the video? Is my fan wearing out?
@lapfix4 жыл бұрын
Hard to say without looking at it, but if the noise is more irritating like a screech noise or a scrapping noise, then it most likely is on this model especially
@sathishvasudev17524 жыл бұрын
@@lapfix The noise is more like when cooler boost is turned on but actually it isn't; I have set the fans to advanced mode (They're set perfectly as per MSI standards). Like when I turn on cooler boost, the motors will power up and give a sound right, it's that noise that is fluctuating. When this happens, the fan 3 in my Dragon center goes to 0 rpm. I opened up to see if fan 3 is running or not, it was running perfectly well but the DC is showing 0 rpm. Thanks.

Fan problems on the one hand... green keyboard led dieing on the other hand... Had sent it in for RMA once already, got both things fixed. But now after almost a year, the same problems slowly start to reappear. I'm definetly dissapointed by MSI! I'll propably try out Asus or sth like that next. If anyone had good experience with certain manufacturers, I'm open to hear em. Razer is already on my blacklist for their apparently very bad support...

I have a GS75. The noise I hear is more like a buzzing. Anyway, it only seems to occur when running games. I couldn't recreate it by messing with the fans in the Dragon Center. Had the computer just under a year, though I'm regularly running games for 8 or more hours at a time (thanks covid! /s)... so... that may be more on me. Bought the replacement fan (Amazon, ~ $30) but feeling a little apprehensive about replacing it myself. I dunno, looks simple enough but maybe worth paying someone else to do it so I can't f- it up. So far I'm still happy with MSI overall, but uh, they are not cheap.
@Xicarah3 жыл бұрын
Any updates? I'm having the same problem with the same sort of buzzing and see that a replacement fan would be about $35. Like you said these things aren't cheap so I'm just thinking about taking it to a shop with the fan so I won't be gouged on the price.

Hey mann why MSI gs65 steath actually made a lot of rattling noise a few months ago and i planned on to taking it to the service center but the very next day it completely stopped soo I didn’t do anything much after that and today all of a sudden my cpu fan is making some weird sound (like some bearings are lose) but the fan still functions at 6k rpm and there are no issues with the temperature) Do you think it will eventually lead to a huge problem? As due to the pandemic I’m unable to fake it to the service center as well. I opened the back case and just cleaned the fans and i am actually scared of opening the whole thing to check the back side.. Need some help!

Have a gs66 installed a new fan the single fan but now it starts and stop then starts again and keeps doing it. Any idea why. Dragon center says zero rpms but it goes on and off then on and keeps doing it over and over.
@lapfix3 жыл бұрын
Most likely the dragon center has a custom setting for them to turn on for a certain temperature or to keep them quiet for low level noise. Try putting it on performance mode or max setting to see if it changes anything

If it's just the led, then it doesn't really matter. But ribbon cables are easy to tear so you're supposed to be careful only pulling straight from the connecting point. If you want to fix the keyboard leds, you probably need to replace the keyboard, but i wouldn't bother if it's just the leds

cons: i do not recommend buying this laptop. $2k laptop 90C on "sports" mode out the box when idling a repaste fixed this issue for about a month CPU spikes for no reason, causing the fans to kick on sporadically. Fans do in fact go BAD in a 3 years time, dealing with this TODAY which is what brought me here to this video Eco mode is a joke, cant even watch your video in 1080p withput it freezing in that mode. (so fans wont spin/grind) BSOD for days when trying to undervolt, probably due to dragon center interference because 90c isnt right at idle or casually browsing the web. pro: can run DOOM Eternal on ultra settings and get all the FPS, when working properly light and portable, but not stealth like due to the random CPU spikes for no apparent reason. this laptop is perfect when it runs perfect, but thats a rare occurrence
@tdata5453 жыл бұрын
I must be a pleb, since I REALLY can't tell the difference between 144hz and 60hz. Only times I've ran into issue was on Android with my 90Hz devices and emulators (which I don't play on laptop, since I have Steam and "modern" games, I buy games 3-5 years after the hype dies for them) and noticed the 90Hz screen really messes with the emulator speed, makes games too fast.
@lapfix3 жыл бұрын
There is usually a setting in the emulator to control the speed of the game or a v-sync option to match the framerate with the monitor.
