An In-Depth Critical Analysis of the Story, Music and Design of Rez. This Video attempts to understand both the technical underpinnings of the brilliant dynamic music composition of the game, as well as what it means for its obtuse but beautifully realized story.
How Rez uses Music to tell the Story of Humanity | A Music and Design Analysis
Rez is an often neglected game that manages to convey universal themes about birth, death, evolution, unity, hope and peace simply with the visceral and undiluted interface of music. The artistry and vision on display is something I always felt should be documented more explicitly, and this video essay is an attempt to do just that.

I've been watching your videos for a few months, if it wasn't for your other videos it's unlikely that I would have ever played this amazing game. More people need to realize that games can be so much more than they are thought to be, thanks to you I have realized this myself and I'm endlessly grateful fo that, and as an aspiring game dev I hope I can one day make something as deeply artistic as rez

Something worth noting is the song used in area 5 “Fear” or its original title “Mind Killer” by Adam Freeland witch take inspiration from Dune (novels written by Frank Herbert), specifically the quote: “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” In video you mention that Eden in part is or collective fear and in the game’s plot Eden shut herself down due to the massive flow of information. That in way ties both to the song and the books since we need to conquer our fears before it kills our minds or this case our own personal Eden (btw this is my interpretation so feel free to share your own)

So we actually played Rez before we took birth. Makes sense. Anyways, this was a brilliant analysis on the game. I've been brought up Hindu, so I too had ideas of singularity and transandence while playing the game. One really good thing you did was connect Mizuguchi's GDC talk with your points.

Thanks! Yeah it's interesting to note how people from various cultures might resonate with the core message differently. What they did well I think was to tie eastern and western motifs into a universal message.

You are so heavily underrated in the KZbin Gaming community that it’s honestly sickening. You deserve to be far more noticed for your work and how thoughtful your videos are. Please keep up the great work!!! You’ll get there soon!

After stopping i can't say i want to continue playing it but i feel like if i started playing it again I wouldn't stop. 8-9/10 , everyone should experience this game
