As a Berkeley Alumni living in Hong Kong (birth palce), I can saw that Berkeley people have bright minds. All my friends were bright and down to earth. I am very blessed to have going there. My study hours included going to the library from 9pm after dinner and studying till 1:30 am. Then I had fried tacoas at Jack In the Box for 99 cents. Berkeley students are naturally motivated so it is a great environment since there is positive underlying peer pressure to do well. Berkeley has a strong alumni group in Hong Kong. Great vid.
My dad graduated from Berkeley in the 1980s, a high SAT score can get you in, but compare to other universities, have to maintain the GPA. But other than that, it’s pretty much a wonderland. And also the friends you meet in Berkeley will be your lifetime friend.
Welcome to UC Berkeley. Those 7 young men most probably are from the Cal Band and they are singing Berkeley University songs. UC Berkeley, or Cal, has its own campus police force. No one can park at designated spots without a permit. But there are many parking locations for outsiders, just pay the hourly parking fees and you are good to park in the campus. Torres Pit might like to think about studying for a post grad course in Cal, it is very different from HKU, and it can be guaranteed that you won't regret it. Post grad course for non-Cal student in Cal is from US$65,000+ per year ( 2 semesters). Enjoy your stay in USA.

1:19 Fun fact: Parking on the UC Berkeley campus is so difficult that one of the perks of winning a Nobel Prize for Berkeley is getting a free parking spot inside the campus. It's an additional incentive of winning Nobel prize at Berkeley loll. If you get a chance to visit Berkeley campus, you can see some special parking spots that only Nobel prize winners can park there.
I was there last year and everything looks so familiar to me!! On one hand people at UC Berkeley are so chilled smoking weed on the field and on the other hand not as relaxed as it seemed to be as they are so stressed out with their coming exams in the library, especially for EECS students, that’s why you didn’t come across many of them LoL). But I guess it is worth it as Berkeley CS graduates who get into the big tech can get up to $150-200k compensation just in the first year. On top of that, for in-state students the tuition is way cheaper, at only around 7k.

Torres, private elite university tuition is ~ $65K a year plus meal n dorm ( $30K). $100K easy for a year. Medical n law school are grad school, after college. Grad school Tuition is ~$70K+ a year. I know because my son went to Ivy league now in law school. It costs us an arm and a leg for his education ! But law school grad makes about $200K a year after graduation.

Which is literally nothing in San Fran. A nurse in San Fran working overtime can easily get 200k a year. UC San Fran starting pay for new graduate nurses is 150k a year work 3 days a week. There were travel nurses working over time during COVID that made close to 400k. All with only a 2 year degree.

@@franciscoantonio314Not really. Nurses working overtime during COVID made $200k a year in small cities in the South. Travel nurses working in ICU can clear 200k with only an associate's degree.
100k USD isn't as much as it sounds. It's BEFORE TAX money. AFTER TAX, it is 5,837 per month. It's about 45528.6 HKD per month. Lots of upper-middle/ middle class ppl in HK can earn as much.
Berkeley has changed a lot since the 90th. It is actually no longer a liberal campus, but also, infiltrated by the big-money as a capitalist university. in the 70th to 90th, 20 years change is phenomenal.
I studied Chemical Engineering at Cal Berkeley in the 70's. If my memory serves me right, my tuition was Like $600 per year then, peanuts compared to what students are paying nowadays.

System engineering is for example when you build a factory, the engineer will design the layout to optimize the material flow, or for logistic company such as fedex, to design their route to optimize delivery time while reducing cost

As someone who went to cal aka uc berkeley i can tell you that its a horrible environment and system. Huge classrooms with very little specialized support. System js dysfunctional. Housing is horrible. Professors are terrible. I would go to any top 30 univerdity except for this university
The homeless people in Berkeley is rather friendly to the students as I was told. They are the disadvantaged people as caused by the high real estate prices in the Bay Area.
