It seems great actors never die. I didn't know Richard Burton died at age 58.

An iconic actor. And a woman’s eater. Men are never satiated. His eyes are very intense like sinatra, bette davis...it says a lot about their characters.

My favorite Burton movie was Night of the Iguana.Too bad that he died at 58 . All that drinking and smoking finally caught up to him like so many others of that era.

Richard Burton was deeply troubled and conflicted. He self-medicated with booze. He was deeply sensitive and craved love and acknowledgement. He truly felt that he'd sold his soul to the devil by choosing making mediocre films that were far below his talents. When he married Elizabeth Taylor, outwardly he went "Hollywood" all the way. Inwardly, he was miserable and felt like a failure. He didn't live for money and gave much of it away to his family. He truly loved Elizabeth, however. One of the most captivating books I've read is "The Richard Burton Diaries", what a read! He bares his soul as much as he had the ability to do so. They were co-dependent and quite toxic to each other. A love-hate relationship to be sure. They said awful, demeaning things to each other daily and their mutual substance abuse fueled the fire daily. I suggest watching his appearance on the Dick Cavett show, in which he talks honestly and candidly about his alcoholism. The video is available on YT. He appeared to be painfully honest throughout his life. I thought he was a brilliant actor who had a brilliant mind. Equus, Virginia Woolf, Night of the Iguana, Anne of a Thousand Days, and Becket are some of my favorite Burton performances. He was always insecure about his masculinity despite his macho bravado and many believed this was at the root of his drinking. Rest in peace, Richard Jenkins.

Terrific talent loved him in Beckett and enjoyed many other movies as well. It appears that the people who have the greatest talents seem to be driven to abuse themselves with alcohol/drugs.

As Taylor-Burton scandals raged during '62, Marilyn Monroe quipped of her soft nude scene in later-abandoned 'Something's Got to Give': "That'll knock Liz Taylor off the front pages!" MM did get a Life cover & others.

Released in 1963, *Cleopatra* began filming in '60; Elizabeth Taylor's health issues delayed it to Sept '61. Entire sets built in England were found unuseable due to (surprise surprise) British weather! Arrivederci Italia😃🤑🤑

I am sorry, but I once saw a scenario in a photograph taken at a large reception. Elizabeth Taylor is on the left in a crowded room looking disappointed and angrily at Richard who is in the middle of the room. He looks sheepish and embarrassed, while on the left of the room in the entranceway stands a young man. Slightly effeminate in looks he wears a smirk on his face like the cat who got the cream. Although I was a very young and inexperienced gay man, it was perfectly obvious Richard had been a naughty boy!

Even in his later years, Burton still gave some good performances. 1977 perfectly encapsulates Burton's up/down career for me: In that same year he gave a ridiculous performance in the hilariously awful sequel, "The Exorcist Two: The Heretic," and a brilliant one in "Equus".

Richard burton needed money badly that's why he starred in the awful sequel to the exorcist. Instead of scares, the sequel drew laughs.
