Sherwood is likely to get a big contract. Greenlaw will be cheaper. I have no problem with the idea of signing him, but if we are digging deep on FA contracts, I'd rather do Drew Dalman. If I'm wrong and his market isn't there im all for it.

Dre isnt just a tackle machine…. he is the soul of the defense. When dre is playing the entire defense is just BETTER. I dont know who this kid is but he’ll need to bring more than just tackles to replace Dre.

We all like Greenlaw at a reasonable price.

That doesn’t say much about our defense if they only step up when one player is out there. Especially when he gets hurt a lot. I love the guy, but saleh will get these guys pumped to play no matter who’s on the field!

That is my kind of my fear as well, Saleh might just bail after a year to get another coaching gig. (And good for him if that is truely what he wants he should further his career) it just seems outside of Demeaco Kyle isn't as good at picking a DC. Wilks (which is I get wasn't fully on wilks) and Sorenson just weren't good fits and I personally as well as some other fans are tired of playing lets pick a DC game every year. Kyle needs some stability at that position since he likes to be hands off on Defense thats why I kind of wish he went with Dennis Allen while a terrible HC his defenses while under Sean Peyton were pretty solid and reliable which is great for the style Shanny wants to play his offense.

Saleh will be gone in 2 years if he performs well. He'll get interviews because he's also a minority. Saleh has the potential of being a feel better versus get better hire. They needed to get a good, older DC who could stick around for a while.

There always is a past team effect when a coach leaves and joins another team. But this is a limited benefit. As you pointed out, Saleh doubled it by advising the Packers this season, nevertheless it is short lived. Niners are in an interesting situation to trade back in this draft. From the look of the mock drafts, the unicorns that they need will be gone by the time the Niners draft. Guys like Carter, Johnson, Graham. The unicorns remaining most likely will be Jeanty and Warren. Both playing positions not high on the draft board, although an argument could be made to draft for the future. Some good defensive players like Walker, Harmon or Revel most likely will be available in the teens. So adding another second round pick from someone that wants to move up for Jeanty or Warren would be a big plus. Still get a quality player and add the second. Need to land a DT in the first or second round as quality will start to run low. Edge are more plentiful. So I see the Niners taking a DT and O-lineman in the first two rounds. Adding an extra second would provide an edge player. Those three picks would be huge. Then with an abundance of third round picks add a CB, TE, and LB. After that, just grab talent without regard for position. I do expect the Niners to draft a kicker, just so they can have exclusivity with someone they really like to give Moody competition. You can say that the Niners are old, but after this draft, 20% will be first or second year players. Good mix of age and youth.

If Saleh gets another HC job in a year or two, we will get yet ANOTHER 3rd round comp pick. Wash, Rinse, Repeat (except for the part about drafting a kicker in the 3rd round)!!!

@OctobersLastDay9 күн бұрын
no, respectfully to him, but he' just a better DFlann. Lengthy, and a transition LB from safety, I think they keep Jalen Graham for Saleh, and maybe look to add more in the draft as far as linebackers go. I don't see them spending for a LB in FAgency.

The whole "if he leaves ... good" argument is one that would normally play well but does not land well right now because the Chiefs have had Spags for awhile, and this was a DC hiring cycle full of hires that fit his profile (very successful DCs unlikely to get HC interest for a long time if ever). I mean, Saleh is clearly better than any hire that doesn't work, and clearly an improvement. But it was plausible that an Allen or Eberflus could have provided that AND STILL stuck around for years.
@TheKevinWood9 күн бұрын
Other than Allen, who fits that? Ulbrich would probably get attention if he did well. Only other person is Staley who would anger some folks, and is a 3-4 guy.
@nevyn12219 күн бұрын
@@TheKevinWoodEberflus would have fit it. He bore more of the blame for the Bears than Saleh got. Abaruno had not been a failed HC yet but as a just fired coordinator who did not get gigs when he was getting interviews hed be more stable than Saleh
@TheKevinWood9 күн бұрын
@ okay fair point on the ex Bengals guy. I still think Saleh is probably the beat fit in the sense that he’s worked with Kyle before, but those are 2 fairly solid points. Lets hope for the best!

Why are people big on bringing greenlaw back? He couldn’t even last 2 quarters in a game before his achilles was about to snap after a full recovery

Because he did more in those 2 quarters than Winters/Campbell did in a full season.

Achilles tend to take a long time to fully come back from. Usually they come back, but being close to exactly what they were before is a year and a half which puts us at the start of next season. He came back fast I think it’s worth giving him a 1-2 year deal on the cheap.
