2 hours to build a fort? that's insane, when you understand the work they used to made there. An interesting example of roman efficiency 🦅
@SpikeundMausАй бұрын
sorry but i dont see it. To build a fort in 2 hours seams impossible regardless of effort AND Tec. Maybe 2 Days if everyone knows exactly what to do. But 2 hours....

2 hours to raise camps, after defensive structures
@stilettoassassinoАй бұрын
@@SpikeundMaus Yes. Sources say normally 3-4 hours. From digging ditches to setting up camp and palisades. IIRC they carried parts of the palisades with them. I think that perhaps you are picturing a log fort or something similar. That would be impractical since it would take forever to build and the legion needs to set up fortified camps every night during campaigns. Look up pictures of historical recreations of fortified Roman camps and it'll become clearer.
@NiklasLehtinen-c5oАй бұрын
@@SpikeundMaus Remember that there were 4800 legionares + another 5000 slave/engineers/other staff to do the work. So 2 hours are really nothing for almost 10 000 humans building one camp.

Fun facts: so one group of soldiers in the tent was called a ‘contibernium’, if a legionary was to be punished, it was done by the rest of his ‘contibernium’. And the camp was always made in the same order, so when the camp was attacked, the soldiers knew where everything was

I'm so glad I found this I am slowly in the process of making my own game primarily in the 17th century maybe mid-century 16th century era and yes this is for the back than that but it's going to come in handy with trying to probably make a siege camp or temporary camps depending on how I structure the armies.. thank you

@historyforgamers I have a KZbin channel for gaming I'm not sure if I'll make a new one the moment I start with a few test models I'll I might record it or stream it I don't know. I haven't been on the KZbin channel for about a year and a half maybe 2 years. Where I live when it gets hot that the point where I can't stream or record and when it's cold it gets too cold and vice versa. What's the different types of mechanics and putting into the game it's going to be the main thing I'm going to make is an MMO. but I'm going to start small with the mechanics and make smaller games based on the mechanics To test out before integrating them into a multi Mass game. What I'm going to do with the placement of the game and error would probably be around the 1600s to around late 17 more of like a medieval fantasy game. Maybe I'll go a little earlier on the era
@historyforgamers18 күн бұрын
It sounds very interesting, complex, but if you implement the different mechanics little by little without losing sight of your final objective, you can achieve it. I say this as a former game programmer. Good luck with your project!

Sir, trust an italian, the roads names you gave are partially wrong, the "via decumano" is just "decumano", splited in half, "decumano est" and "decumano ovest", instead the "via principalis" you said is instead called "cardo", splitted as well in half, "cardo nord" and "cardo sud"
@historyforgamersАй бұрын
Yes, I had always studied that cities were divided mainly by the cardo and the decumanus. When I searched for more information for this video, I found that in a roman castrum the road that goes from North to South was also called principalis, that's why I included it. Thanks for the info Nicola.
