Well apart from the obvious difference of the RTD era being in SD quality (until Planet of the Dead), the camera style was very much trying to imitate other early-mid 2000s shows, along with there being a lower budget

@@prof.evilpictures8696 The Chibnall era looks so artifical it actually takes away from the storytelling - we need to relate to the world and we can't if its overly shiny like a food commercial
@TheOtherKaneda4 жыл бұрын
Bit late, but like Harbo says, most of the RTD era is SD, while Moffat started out with HD. The one thing all of the RTD era episodes have in common, including the HD ones, is that they're shot on digital video, with post processing filters added to make the end result somewhat more "film-like". Between The End of Time and The Eleventh Hour, BBC Wales acquired digital film cameras, and the contrast - even to Waters of Mars (which is, to me, the best shot HD episode in the RTD era) - is staggering. To my eyes, the Moffat era is *much* more cinematic, but that doesn't really detract from the (for Who) unique style of the RTD episodes. Especially if we compare RTD era to the Chibnall era "style"... which is actually even *closer* to actual modern cinema - even the way modern cinema looked during Moffat's reign. It's style without substance - to me it looks like little thought has been put into the look of series 11 and 12, other than "make it look modern". In the same vein as Prof. Evil Pictures, Lily Bea, and Hermes, I find that look dull and artificial and cold - it's succumbed to everything "wrong" with cinema of the 2010's. I say "wrong", which is obviously subjective, but it's all trends that have arisen mainly due to refusals to learn from the experiences of the past. Those trends which will more or less die off (much like 3D cinema) when cinematographers and editors catch up with the knowledge of people who worked 20-100 years before them. And which will, in the long run, make series 11 and 12 look *more* dated than "Rose". From the orange/teal color grading plague over flattened contrast, to insanely excessive lens flares. At the same time, it manages to ignore almost everything that digital cinema has done *right* in the past decade...

"Rose" was the first ever episode I watched back in 2008 when I was 13. Im from Israel and have never heard of Doctor Who before, and I watched the entire first series without even knowing that I am watching a reboot of something. It really did do a FANTASTIC job. I remember thinking that the Autons MUST be the main villians of the show, and only after watching the second episode I actually got the show's format. I remember being really surprised (and scared actually) when suddenly episode 4 ended on a cliffhanger, like the show can do whatever it wants. I remember the shock I had when the Doctor regenerated at the end of the series, I've never seen anyone do that ever. Also, this video is the first time im hearing that people didn't really like Murray Gold's score for series 1. Companions who are grounded, have obligations, lives that are impacted by and impact on their adventures. I would love to see a companion struggling with a less than perfect life. A graduate that can't find a job. Someone with a tumultuous home life. Maybe they're homeless, or on probation. Someone who's depressed or grieving. A single parent coping with empty nest syndrome. People who feel like that they have nothing to lose acting as a character foil to a relentlessly optimistic Doctor, or one who's a compulsive fixer. it could be an interesting inversion of previous relationships.

Rose had fast pacing, action packed music and a good introduction to both The 9th Doctor and Rose Tyler. Rose reminded me of the classic TV show The Avengers. Christopher Eccleston had the humour of Tom Baker and the mystery and dark side of Sylvester McCoy. Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper had good chemistry. Russell T. Davies brought Doctor Who into the 21st century. I thought it was a shame Christopher Eccleston only did 1 only season and it was also a shame he didn't return form "Day of the Doctor". I didn't realise p didn't like series 1 music s1 and 2 has some of my favourite tracks of all who.. the mysterious doctor theme is amazing, roses theme makes me.cry as does fathers day AND of course the lone dalek which is truly amazing - it actually succeeds at making u feel empathy for the dalek as it reveals it's true poor helpless form all alone never once touching another living being. Fuck I miss these days of doctor who 😢.

I recently started watching the classic series and it's interesting how An Unearthly Child does the same with the Doctor being almost a side character and us following the perspective of Barbara and Ian

Watching this eposode after the knowledge of Day Of The Doctor, it's almost as if this 9th Doctor is coming right after that episode. Mostly because 9 acts like he has just regenerated.

Rose hasn't aged well with its special effects and a bin burping after "swallowing" Mickey is still one of the dumbest Doctor Who scenes ever. But Rose is still a great reintroduction of Doctor Who for the 21st century audience as RTD did a great job with casting the right people for the Doctor and the companion. I'm thankful to RTD for introducing this unique show to the new generation such as myself back in 2005.

I didn't like the burping bin until I learned that my very young nieces loved it. Then I remembered the show wasn't just for me.

Being five, I honestly can't remember my thoughts. But I know I kept watching every episode after, live (up until post-2017), and was cautious of shop dummies for a while after.

I was 4 during initial broadcast so if i watched it i do not remember, i have vague memories of Micky being eaten by the bin but that may have been a rerun. I suppose that's why 10 is my first doctor, even though I probably watched 9 I remember watching 10 as it was coming out, and 10s era was rerun way more on tv.

There was a short prose by RTD released online. It was written for DWM in 2013 and sees the regeneration of the Eighth Doctor but it never got released because Moffat had done Night of the Doctor

I'm glad he mentioned Rose being a working class women, because I think that's a big reason why the first season of Doctor Who was so subversive. As he said, all of the earlier companions were wealth or middle class, because working class people are very underrepresented on TV and in media. Part of the relatability of Rose's character is that she comes from an environment that is familiar to many people.

Why did they have to cancel doctor who in 2017? I was starting to enjoy it again
@cryptozoomauler55054 жыл бұрын
It wasn't cancelled. They had a new showrunner coming in as the 2nd showrunner was stepping down. They took a year off as they have done before, though usually when they do that, they will give us a Christmas special at least.
