I always assumed the ability to burn food by cooking an already cooked version of it was in the game as a way to easily obtain the burnt meat you need for Druidic ritual, is if you’re cooking is too high you’ll never burn them.

Im not 100% certain on this but in rs3 i think you have to lower your invention lvl (unless you got the perk already) to get a specific lvl of a perk. I forget which one but it sounded ridiculous to me at the time 😂

Reduce your stats automatically at a fast rate while cooking a full inventory of wraps to have a chance of burning one only after dropping below the minimum level to cook them. It’s a pretty bizarre thing to come up with

People did, but the options they had didn't allow for an easily replicable -6, and stats would restore over time in most places. Not to mention that once your level drops below 50 you can't attempt to cook the wrap, meaning you would NEED to reduce your cooking by 6 levels whilst batch cooking. This one area is the only place it's possible and it only works because the weather effect can not kill you, which most people wouldn't have known because you walk through it for 10-15s typically in high-end gear for the purpose of boss killing, and with the generally accepted consensus of "this area is probably lethal" and the fact any damage will stop the batch cooking process it wasn't something people considered for a while. They also couldn't try to raise their stats and then batch cook because even if you could get a +6 cooking boost (highest is +5) your level would only go down by 1 every 60s, meaning you would need to wait at least 5 minutes and 1 second until your level was low enough to burn the wrap, which you would finish batch cooking in 67.2 seconds if processing a full inventory.

It should be this way, but this only works for burnt meat (cowmeat). There are a couple other rarer unintentionally collectors items too such as the Fossilised dung or Half certificate

No, because you have to be cooking them as your cooking drops. If you used a stew to drop below 50, you wouldn't be high enough level to cook it.

@@MinisculeBug I think they mean using the area outside gwd to lower your stats. for RS3 this is specifically used for the invention skill because you have better odds of getting bis at specific levels and sometimes it gets worse at higher levels.

Probably because barely anyone that plays OSRS plays rs3, and even less of them consume rs3 content (which there is even less of), so the chances of your average OSRS player knowing an obscure rs3 mechanic (and yes it is obscure to us, as even if we try out rs3, what are the chances we play enough to unlock invention and look into bis methods?) Is substantially low

I'm surprised it lets you. For a lot of stuff, if your drained stat is below the requirement to do something then it still won't let you even if your base stat is high enough.

Exactly. Happens with magic for example, you can't cast spells if your magic level drained is lower than the spell requirement

No but that’s the thing, you’re right, it doesn’t let you. You can’t START cooking them if your level is drained below 50. But if you start cooking a full inventory at lvl 50+ there you’ll keep doing it once it drains below 50 then once it drains below 44 they’ll start to burn.

For anyone who doesn't play OSRS, the stack of 100 million he shows here could at the time could be sold for about 40-50 USD (these days way less). So if someone bought one for 100 mil then they were spending about 50 bucks to get one. I remember hearing about people trying to pay 500mil to 1 bil, not sure if it was true, but that would have been close to at least half a grand in real money if the deal went through.

I dont play OSRS but i did play it when it was just called Runescape, i seem to remember real world trading was a bannable offence and it was quite heavily monitored back then. I know it did happen but for the most part people just played the game for fun and people generally didn't pay money for ingame things, People simply bought membership and that was it. You earned everything else. this was back before the grand exchange was added mind you. The game was alot of fun back then, it felt like a real community because everyone talked to each other alot more.

No, because the knowledge people needed was that the snow damage wouldn't kill you. You can't just lower your cooking level because then you can't start cooking it, you NEED 50 cooking to start cooking it, and that's too high to burn it. So people needed to know both that this food is unique and you'd continue to cook it after your level dropped below 50 and that sitting at 1hp would cause the snow to stop damaging you, as if it damages you you'd stop cooking and be unable to resume as you'd be under 50 cooking.

A lack of people thinking too much about it, and the fact that the snow's damage interrupts your cooking. The real thing nobody considered was that the damage couldn't ever kill you, so if you sat at 1hp it would stop damaging you. Not too many people really wanted to be 1hp in the place that periodically damages you.

Nope. Burning only occurd when cooking a raw item, with a chance that decreases as you level your cooking higher.

Well, it's still hard to get a lot of them. The method is very out of the way, wrapped oomlies are tedious to get in bulk, most of your inventory will be cooked before you're low enough cooking to burn a bird, and even then when you reach 43 cooking the first level you can burn one at, the cook rate is 99% anyway. And all those cooked oomlies are pretty much worthless. Getting burnt oomies is tedious.

Generally when a stat is lowered below the req to do a thing, you just can't do the thing anymore, so being able to cook it while below the minimum level req due to stat draining makes this unusual and is probably part of why it wasn't thought of by those trying to figure it out (which I doubt was many people to begin with since its just a useless piece of burnt food).

Hindsight is 20/20. People didn't know about 90% of the strats we use nowadays until recent years. Also no other food allows you to keep cooking it after your level is drained to my knowledge.
