What people often tend to forget is that Russia colonized half of Asia. Russia is still a colonial empire, but because we're used to it that all that landmass is Russia, they don't fall prey to a negative public opinion in the world.

Oh, and also that one time where the ottomans went to Sumatra and had some tributary/vassal state in there for centuries. There's a lot that people often ignore in colonization ALONE.
