I believe the Russian, China and Indian embassies and diplomats that are in Canada and in other countries are spying. September 5, 1945, after signing the peace treaty with Japan, Igor Sergeievich Gouzenko, fled the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa. He was a Soviet cipher clerk engaged in coding and decoding messages sent back and forth from Moscow. He took with him 109 documents, proving the existence of a Soviet spy ring in Canada, n the UK and USA. Although Soviets became our allies after Germany broke their alliance with the Soviets, the West discovered they can't trust the Soviet Union one iota. Many historians consider it the beginning of the Cold War. Gouzenko later explained that he became disenchanted with his own government as he learned that the GRU and another secret intelligence organization, the NKVD (People’s Commissariat of Internal Affairs) were using the embassy as a headquarters from which to spy on their allies. He had also heard people in the embassy talk about the inevitability of war between the Soviet Union and the Western powers. Using the War Measures Act as legal justification, the RCMP arrested 39 suspects; 18 were convicted. Among them were MP Fred Rose and Sam Carr of the Labor-Progressive Party (see Communist Party of Canada), and Canadian Army captain Gordon Lunan. In the United Kingdom, nuclear physicists Alan Nunn May and Klaus Fuchs were convicted and sent to prison. The Gouzenko Affair sparked investigations in the United States that eventually led to the controversial 1953 executions of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg for treason. (See also Capital Punishment.) Gouzenko wrote This Was My Choice (a.k.a. The Iron Curtain), a book about his defection published in 1948. He also wrote The Fall of a Titan, a novel about life in Stalinist Russia. I tend to be a bit sanguine about all this. Being somewhat older I have lived through the Cold War, and there was a lot going on then. Because of my work I got to see a lot up close and personal. I am also an avid reader of history and know about the Soviet information campaigns from the 1930s and even the 1950s. Personally, I watched some Tim Poole and Dave Rubin videos in the past. I found them mostly repetitive and boring and have not followed them for a long time. Frankly, I am not surprised at the situation they find themselves in now.

It's not the subject but an important information for this day : The Ukrainian army can use the weapons supplied by the Netherlands to bomb military targets in russia, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced in an interview with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “Kyiv has the right to defend itself. And if the country is attacked from border areas or from russian airfields, then it can target military targets. The same applies to enemy missiles: these can also be intercepted by our weapons over russia,” he said, calling on Ukraine’s other allies to do the same.

My experience of russian hybrid attacks in high north is that they use a double-edged sword; they do something very blunt and stupid and the same time they do something what they have planned better. For example a while ago water towers were broken into in Finland, that was stupid and obvious, fake attack and I am certain they did something at the same time but we don't know yet what. Stay safe. Luckily, America has you, Anna, to keep us on the "straight and narrow". Americans are not stupid, albeit we project a different image from time to time. Russian disinformation or "propaganda" has been on our radar for years. Today American F35 fighter planes are practicing "touch and go" operations on Finland's highways. We see Ukraine's struggle daily. There is an old saying in the American military "the most important foxhole in the world is one you are in". Certainly, this is Ukraine's situation. America has responsibility for "foxholes" around the globe, Ukraine being one. Do not underestimate the United States resolve as nondescript as it may appear. Perhaps your next trip should be to a south Philadelphia tap room or a Kansas City pub to learn just how savvy the average American is. What Theodore Roosevelt said at the turn of last century applies this century. Americans "speak softly but carry a big stick".
