I hope to god you didn't spend more then $30-$40 on the cpu. If you did I think you wasted your money, unless you bought it for collecting reason. You should've just looked for a used ryzen 3 1300 if you bought this fx chip for actually computing anything.

@@TripleMoonPanda By the looks of things, it cost 160 pounds with the (rather good) motehrboard and 16GB of RAM. That being said...as long as the main use is VM and server releated it doesn't do that bad a job (primarily because those loads don't rely that heavily on FPU performance).

I have two of these processors.. One is on an Asus Sabertooth R3 motherboard. The other on An Asus Rog Crosshair V formula Z.. The Sabertooth has a 240 Watercooler and the Crosshair has a 120 dual fan Water cooler.. One thing I found out is that The VRM coolers got mighty hot when it was running.. The Asus board I pulled the heatsinks and changed the thermal paste. Since the dual fan coolar was over the larger VRM with both fans blowing it ran cool. I had to put a fan over the VRM's on the Sabertooth board. With an Asus RX 580 dual card the Sabertooth system runs great doing all the normal games fine.. The Crosshair has a 780 GTX and it plays all the titles fine also. I want to remind you that the motherboard you have may not be on the list of ones that can handle this power hungry Processor.. Always check the Vendor list. I took that Same 970 you had and gave it to my roomates upgrade from her athlon system to FX.

I know this is an older video but I feel compelled to comment. I bought this CPU in 2013 as an upgrade from a Phenom x6 1100t. My motherboard did not initially support the processor at it's proper speed so I upgraded to an Asrock board that had good reviews and a great feature set. At the same time I put in a Corsair H100 water cooler and a Corsair AX860 power supply. I never was able to run the machine to spec. It has a base clock of 4.7GHz but I ended up having to under clock it to 4.3GHz to keep the temperature under control. I have always supported AMD products and even accepted this one like that for 2 years but it was a nightmare the whole time. On hot summer days it wouldn't matter what steps I took I could not run it stably.

Makes me feel better about my overclock on the 8350 I used to have, was trying my best to hit 9590 clock speeds and I never hit 5ghz stable, but seeing your cinebench numbers I now know I had it right, even after I tried to blow it up. My final score after blowing a pair of CPU mosfets on an asrock board and resurrecting it from the dead was 736, within margin of error after it probably took 12v to the dome not so bad after all...

in one of my systems, im actually running a FX-8350 on a Gigabyte 970A-DS3P mobo, with just 8gb of 1600mhz ddr3 ram and threw a random RX-580 8gb Red Devil i had laying around into it... it does okay enough. everything i wanna play on it plays how i want it to, so i have no complaints. i only play 1080p on that system, since that is what it was built for, but i run everything i have on it on ultra settings and seems to be getting a solid 75fps out of it at all times (im only using a 75hz 1080p monitor for that system) so its good for what i built it for. i do have a 1440p rig i like better though. that is running a 3600x, 5700xt red devil, 3200mhz ddr4 ram and a 1140p 144hz monitor. i just enjoy sitting on the older rig sometimes.... especially when its cold, i can warm my place up pretty good with it. lol

The 8350 was a better choice IMO with aftermarket air cooling they can reach 4.8 mhz while running amazingly cool on a good 990fx MB.... Just built a friend a gaming pc and used my old fx paired with a rx 580. In 1080p it handles all games very well it surprised me with a better air flow case it ran better than when I used it. Yes it uses alot of power but still 100% viable for 1080p gaming in pretty much all games was getting 99% gpu usage. Ran good enough I could reshade most games and still got capped 60fps easy. Highest stress game temps was around 61 degrees my OC Ryzen sees a tad higher temps. Good case and fan set up along with a good 990fx MB makes some FX heater myths false anything over 4.8 cranked up the temps with little performance gain.... I would under clock these cpus to save the environment lol

There are definitely better options today for sure, but there is just something that I love about getting old hardware and seeing how viable it still is today. I recently built my 13 year old nephew a gaming PC using the FX-8350, Asus Sabertooth 990fx R2.0, 32GB of 1866MHz ECC memory, Sapphire Pulse Vega 56, Intel Optane NVMe SSD, NH-D15 CPU cooler, Seasonic Prime 1000W PSU, all in a 15 year old Lian Li PC-v1000 case. Ended up with a rock solid stable 4.5GHz OC on the CPU, with 2400MHz NB and HT. Definitely had more potential but the case was limiting. If I could I'd throw a 360mm AIO on it and see how far I could go. It was stable enough at 4.9GHz to run Geekbench but to get it completely 24 hour stress test stable I had to lower it to 4.5GHz. Of course I know almost all of those components are huge overkill for the CPU, but I had a blast building and testing it out and hopefully my nephew can reuse a lot of the parts later. It still runs games like Overwatch, DOOM, and Fortnite really well and actually isn't CPU bottlenecked in those. I tried playing Anthem on it but for that game the CPU bottleneck was hurting and fps never touched 60, sticking around 50 on all settings. Still playable but definitely shows it's age.

I rock an overclocked 9370 (5.1Ghz), with a 7970, or a 1050ti (I lend the 7970 out to a 9900K friend), and the experience is actually very good. Granted, it requires a Sabertooth 990FX 2.0, which is expensive, and, given the DDR4 Ryzen alternatives, it would be silly to buy one, today. But, for someone who uses it as a 1080p daily driver, gaming, workstation, I think it's great. My desire to Ryzen, truly, is just a desire to tinker with a different system, having my own end game, 'maxed-out' configuration.

I grew up partially next to the A2 in a place called Riverview Park on the outskirts of Gravesend, used to have great fun with me Raleigh Chopper thundering down towards Chatham or up towards Northfleet on the then untarmac'd A2 (was just concrete slabs from the M2 start to Bexley) as often went up to see the famous bridge to nowhere that is now the M25 over bridge. Sometimes used to wend me way to Southfleet to mess about on the old railway there or go watch the fireless steam engines at Imperial Paper Mills next to Gravesend hospital or go watch the steam down at Bowaters on the isle of Sheppey or the overhead cableway that was still running back then.

Quick tip for Piledriver systems.Attempt to tinker with the ram timings and get them as low as you can. Due to the very long pipeline of these cpus and the branch miss every mistake takes alot of time in reprocessing (thats one of the reasons why its so god damn slow), because it has to fetch data again from ram.

I've not gotten a chance to try any of the late (9000) bulldozer CPUs.. honestly I skipped over the FX series completely as an upgrade option, sticking with my Phenom II 1090T up until I finally got a window of opportunity with a nice paycheck and a 4 day vacation from work to grab myself a Ryzen 5 1600, MSI B350M Gaming Pro and a 2x4GB set of DDR4-2400 G.Skill Ripjaws V. I later on tried to use the old setup to find that the motherboard had somehow died within the month that it spent sitting in an old antistatic bag (RIP 970A-G43) and upped it to an MSI 970 Gaming, later on putting an FX-8350 in to allow it to play newer titles that rely on newer SSE instructions like FarCry 5, and I definitely noticed a performance difference between the 8350 and my R5, with the same XFX R9-380P-4255 card from my main rig (Replaced with Powercolor AXRX Vega 64). Framerates were noticeably worse, lots of frames dropped, just wasn't a particularly nice experience.

This CPU is an absolute nightmare to overclock, you can only run it at 50mhz past is base speed, any more than that it overheats in seconds. All said and done though, mine runs at 4.8ghz per core, despite the heat and power, its actually quite goodeven despite its age. 7 years old and still giving you 60fps its a banger.

I'm on the same board (970 Pro gaming aura) with a 9370 clocked at 5.1ghz. It's a challenge to get the FX platform to work correctly, but get it right and it's still plenty fast. As always with AMD... if you can cool it, you can clock it. And for the love of god, use some Coollaboratory Liquid Ultra. You are wasting your time / money and effort trying to use a paste. The CPU heats up way too fast, you'll get a lot of temp spikes with AS5 or similar.

I had a similar set up with this chip and cooler, unfortunately I learned after a year that the cooling unit was up to par. I learned this by a my screen going black during a game and then having a burning smell come from my computer. At first I had no idea what happened and frantically unplugged everything. Luckily it didn't catch fire. After that I had to stop playing games because my computer was fried and I didn't know how to fix it or what happened. Rip first build.

Great vid man, just a couple of questions. First off, does your rx 5700 show proper stats in whichever tool you are using (I assume you are using afterburner)? Every software I've used so far to measure my sapphire pulse xt model shows everything properly other than clock speed, which jumps from 80mhz all the way to 1800mhz and back. Performance is fine, but the numbers are all messed up. Second, in Witcher 3, did you use ssao or hbao+? When I tried hbao+ i took an unreasonable hit in performance, probably due to the fact that it's an Nvidia solution. Also aa gave me an unreasonable hit too. Hope to hear from you cause I honestly can't find any info online... Anyone else's feedback would also be extremely appreciated. Cheers!
