Hi, I am from Germany. I just want to praise the high quality of CNA Insider videos! This channel has become one of my favourites and I love especially these very interesting Talking Point episodes! I used to be very careless with powerbanks, because they seem so sturdy. Your video was like a warning-/wake-up-call. Great content, great topic, and very good video cutting! Keep up your good work! Liebe Grüße aus Hamburg!

Have you met the KOPITIAM of North Point Trays before? They are scary! But you won't find them now as KOPITIAM had sold to Foodfare and it seems their practice is getting better but of course, if you really check, they are still gross.

Important to note that all lithium will burn on nail penetration test, the energy has to go somewhere. The purpose of nail penetration test is to see how the battery actively contain the burning.

For most power bank with flat surfaces, there's an easy way to check for bloating; try spinning it gently. If it stops immediately within 1-2 turns, it's not bloated. If it still spins easily after a few seconds, then you have a bloated power bank.

"It's dangerous when overcharging...." such misinformation to public. People will assume you keep charging so it becomes overcharged which isn't the case practically. The experiment tested on upping the voltage charged which do not happen in real life unless they have a crappy BMS circuit or the BMS faults. The BMS circuit cuts off charging and usage to the battery when it hits certain voltage on the upper and lower mark. The crux of the issue is crappy BMS. Also there's heat issue and bad batteries.

Finally someone who understand a powerbank is not just a bunch of batteries, it has a circuit board that monitors voltage and protects the battery. The circuit board quality varies with the brand. It's OK to buy branded Chinese battery like Xiaomi, those no brand ones are risky ... usually the problem is they overclaim the capacity like 50,000 mAmp is just 2,500 :-)
@mykchancy

Not to mention they avoided testing that 'branded' powerbank with the same overvoltage test with explosive results. Probably they will show that it might end up having the same issue whether it's branded or not when it's not charging according to manufacturer's specifications

In short. If it looks dodgy don’t buy. Only buy well known brands. If the brand of powerbank is also available on Amazon then it’s good but do in depth research too. Personally my picks would be Anker, Ugreen, Baseus and Xiaomi

One thing I learn is don’t fast charge your power banks. Use an appropriate voltage. Most common being a 3V. Charge your power bank in shaded or cool areas. Set up a alarm for when you shut the power or use smart plugs with timers even though modern power banks are designed to accept a trickle charge when the capacity approaches 90%.

Im curious as to why the 'branded' powerbank was not subjected to similiar test towards the 2nd half of the video? An unbranded powerbank would be expected to such failures but then why don't u do the same for the branded ones as well??? That would be a correct direct and accurate presentation. Otherwise it seems a very 1 sided affair.

CNA the max that can bring on plane is 100Wh not just 27k mAh. Some battery is 7.2v some like laptops have 14.8v. So with higher voltage, the mAh is lower
@DarkZerol
@DarkZerol Жыл бұрын
To specify the maximum limit for a power bank or battery pack as specified by the IATA (International Air Transport Association) is 27k mAh or 100W, regardless of whichever one comes first. Some commercial airline may offer a bit more leeway however if you are carrying a power bank or battery pack that exceeds such specification then you may always try asking the airline for special approval prior to boarding the plane.
