in Portugal we call that qualitative evaluation. F- fraco (weak) NS - não satisfaz (non sufficient) S - suficiente B- bom (good) MB- muito bom (Very good) E- excelente (100%) but its only used in primary school and practical evaluations in some universities

In Italy there were many systems because they are used for different things. From elementary school all the way to high-school, students are graded on a 1-10 scale (though, usually the lowest grade given is 2). Then, high-school final exams are graded on a 1-100 scale. For university the 1-30 scale is used, but you can also get a "30 with honours", which is sometimes counted as 31. Finally, the 1-110 scale is only used to grade university final exams.

In Denmark the "passed" is grade 02, unsatisfactory is 00, and the -3 is only for when you dont show up, but i guess also for other severe fuckups. It is very rare and most cases are deliberate so as to retake the exam seriously the 2nd time. But i guess a lot of troublemakers get them too, yet i doubt they go around telling it.

In Russia, "1" as a grade was used ip until like 2000s. But since most teachers put a "2" grade on poorly made tasks, "1" grade just kinda... ceased to be.

03:53 in Greece we have grading systems about the different education system (primary, secondary or tertiary education system). In 1st and 2nd grades in Greek primary schools there is only descriptive evaluation, with no grades included. In the 3rd and 4th grade grades are only letters (Α-Δ which explains the grades of a student from the excelent to almost good) and in 5th and 6th grades numbers ranging from 1-10 are used. In secondary greek education we have a 20-point grading system (Gymnasium/Middle School and Lyceum/ High School). In the tertiary education systems (univeristies and polytechnics ) we have the 0.00-10.00 grading system and the pass is from 5.00 grade

That map is a bit wrong in my country. In Lithuania, we use 2-10 for regular grades. 1 is reserved only if you write nothing or annoy the teacher to the point where she wants to quit their job.

In England and Wales, in secondary schools (middle school in the US), the grading system is U-9 (with U being “ungradeable”), then all numbers from 1-9. Some schools use the “plus and minus” to tell how far a student is from the next grade. In Sixth Form/College (High School in the US) the grading system is U-A* (U also being “ungradeable”, but then the lettering system goes E-A*, with A* (pronounced A star) being higher than an A. Typically “plus and minus” are not used. The grading system has been changed so many times though, since World War Two.

For Ireland, the 3 grading systems are based off of what level of exam you undertake. NG-A is the entry level exams, called the “junior cert”, and the H1/O1/F1 is the “leaving cert” (kinda similar to the SAT in a way) depends on what difficulty of the subject you undertake, higher, ordinary and foundation level. In Poland we have two grading systems. One is 1-6 as shown in the video. The other one is 2-5 (like in Russia), which is used in universities. In this system 2 is a failing grade.

My information is 40 years out of date, but in Bulgaria 2 was, and probably is, a failing grade. 1 used to be the grade given to people caught cheating, or those who failed the assignment in creative ways, like pouring the acid into the litmus. 2 is bad. 1 is usually cause for disciplinary action.

In Germany it's similar. You can easily get a 6 (the worst grade) on a test or an exam because it's always determined by how many points you got and 6, but I've never seen a teacher personally give someone that grade, probably because it would just feel like an insult. Oh and 5 is of course a failing grade as well and depending on the context, a 4- or even regular 4 as well.

@@patrickanquetil7937 The -3 is fairly difficult to get tbf, typically explained as not having any knowledge on the subject or the likes, it's not a special grade in any other way, but the negative score. The Ministry of Education itself states -3 as "A performance which is unacceptable in all demands and regards" and 00 as "A performance which does not meet the minimum requirements" The 00's are there, so it can't be rewritten to a 02, which is there so it can't be rewritten to a 12

The reason why the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth at 8:40, has it's own category is because we had an "Electoral Monarcy". Basically after the death of the last Jagiellonian king in 1572. The "szlachta" or nobility (which was a very strong faction in Poland) decided to change the system to an electoral monarchy. This Pretty much meant that they could elect the next king of the PLC. This is also the reason why Poland had so many foreign kings like the Vasa dynasty from Sweden.

To explain our grading system: This system is used for regular yearly grading and for our Junior Cert - Taken in 3rd Year to represent 1st, 2nd and 3rd years of learning - 14-16 years old: NG - Not Graded - 0-20% A - Just your average A - 90-100% (D for Distinction is used for Junior Cert) Our Leaving Cert which is taken in 6th Year to represent 5th and 6th year, 4th Year is mostly to prepare students for the world of world for work so you don't do much academic learning that year: H1-H8 - High level for your smartiest of students. 1 is better than 8. O1-O8 - Ordinary level or lower level you your average Joe. 1-8 is same as H1-H8. F1-F8 - For students that need extra help with their learning. This level is only given for Irish language class and Maths as they are the hardest. If you have dyslexia or a similar learning disorder or you entered Ireland after the age of 12 (the youngest age you can legally enter secondary school) you may be exempt from Irish. P.S. each level and grade give more or less CAO points (points that are looked at by unis and colleges. They often have minimum requirements for their courses. These requirements have skyrocketted since the start of Covid as getting higher points was made easier). You can look up CAO calculator and mess around with it to understand but the max points is 625. You take 7 exam subjects in you Leaving Cert for 5th and 6th Year. You can be put into class levels depending on your capabilities which are listed as Higher, Ordinary and Foundation Level. If you take Higher for at least 6 of these subjects, one of these including Maths and you get 90-100% on you Leaving Cert you can get 625 points. Each H1 = 100 points and it only counts your top 6 scores. If you take Higher Maths you get 25 extra points for a total of 625. Thanks for reading, you now understand the Irish grading system a bit better.

The beginning of the end for Gaidhlig started in 1688 with the “Glorious Revolution” when the Stuart monarchy were replaced by Dutch kings. This caused an uprising which ended in the battle of Culloden, where the highland clans were beaten by the English. This caused bans on tartan, bagpipes and the teaching of Gaidhlig. After this the Highland Clearances began where people from the highlands (Gaidhlig speakers) were evicted from the homes they had been living in for hundreds of years to be replaced by sheep. This together with famines forced many people to move south to the lowlands where Gaidhlig was not used or even abroad to British colonies in the US, Canada, and to a lesser extent Australia and New Zealand. Because of all of this only very few people speak it with almost all in the highlands, with some in Glasgow and in North America, Nova Scotia especially. This is a simplified version but there are lots of explainers on KZbin and google if you want more info

Just to clarify the messy situation in Italy: Grades in school tests are 0 to 10, BUT the final high school exam is 0 to 100. Grades in university exams are 0 to 30, BUT the final degree thesis points are 0 to 110.

To quickly explain Ireland's grading system: We have a state exam for college entry called the leaving cert, where you take a minimum of 6 subjects with three of those being mandatory. Every subject is split into two levels, higher and ordinary level, with the mandatory subjects having an extra level, foundation. You get your grade in each of these subjects based on the level you did and your grade in that exam (the smaller the number the higher the grade, 8 to 1). So if you got a 95% in higher level maths you'd have a H1, a 62% in ordinary level Spanish would be an O4 and a 9% in foundation level Irish would be an F8. There's some more, smaller complexities to it but that's the basic rundown. It used to be much worse, but it was simplified a few years ago for a whole bunch of reasons.

In Greece grading system it's a bit more complicated: --> 1st to 2nd grade of primary school children are not graded --> 3rd to 4th grade of primary school they are graded from A (best) to D (worst) (Α-Β-Γ-Δ) though "Δ" is never used --> 5th to 6th grade of primary school they are graded from 10 (best) to 1 (worst) though below 6 are never used --> 1st to 3rd grade of middle school and 1st to 3rd grade of high school they are graded from 20 (best) to 1 (worst) though below 7 is never used (in most cases if the teacher isn't a psycho) | pass with 10 or above but if you have fail a single class or more, you need to end the year with 13 or above to pass --> For university/collage/TEI/VET the grades are from 10 (best) to 1 (worst) | pass with 5 or above

Ireland has 3 levels of difficulty, foundational, ordinary and Higher level, for the leaving cert (final exams) each level is split into 8 grades, eg H8 to H1. When applying for college you have to convert your grade to CAO points(from 0-100, but higher maths can grant 125 points for a H1) so the maximum points that can be gained is 625 (On average 6 people achieve this every year, across the country). There is then a completely different system for your junior cert (determines what difficulty level you get) graded as no grade, partially achieved, achieved, merit, higher merit and distinction.

Italian here, I can give some context for the grades in my country. So in school we have a 1-10 numbering system, for our final high school exams (and some technical school certifications) we have scores 1-100. Now here comes the weird part: in university when we take an exam, our grades are 0-30 (anything above 18 is passing) with an added cum laude, which just means that the professor complimented us on our work, so 30 and 30L (cum laude) are worth the same amount, except 30L is with added compliments. The weirdest of all is that this grading system is then converted into 0-110 for our university diplomas, with cum laude if our points reach over 110 (so anything above 111 is turned into 110L). It sounds very complicated but it really is not.

The reason why the Italian university grades are from 0 to 30 is really simple, until the 70s, the grades were assigned by a commission with 3 people (the professor and 2 assistents) each one assigned a score from 0 to 10, so the finale grade was obviously from 0 to 30. The same for the graduation grade, the graduation commission counted 11 people (from 0 to 10 x 11 = from 0 to 110).

The grades in Denmark are -3, 00, 02, 4, 7, 10, 12. The -3 is almost never used and can only be used when the student doesn't show up to the test. Also you pass the test at 02 or over.

Lol in my high school class there was at least 1 incident of one of my classmates turning in an essay and getting -3. But we did have an "old school" strict Danish teacher. It wasn't like he didn't write anything in his essay either, although it was somewhere between 200-400 words IIRC. It was pretty common that the entire class got 00 and 02's.

In Italy the systems are different depending on the school if I read it correctly: 1-10 is basically the system from Elementary to high school 1-100 is for final exams in middle school and high school 1-30 is for exams in uni The 1-110 is the vote for final exams in uni (bachelor, doctorates and master degrees). Maybe also professional schools

For those curious why Poland-Lithuania had its own label in the government form map, its because they were effectively an elective monarch It functioned like a modern constitutional monarchy except that rather than there being a king family there's king elections and instead of king being powerless the king was *almost* powerless Each king on the Polish throne had to sign a thing that limited their power, and if they refused another king would just be elected that wouldn't mind the limitations

Shown grades for Slovakia apply for elementary and high schools only. Universities have grades A, B, C, D and FX. I also include verbal description of grades 1/A (Výborne) - Perfect 2/B (Chválitebne) - Praise worthy 3/C (Dobre) - Well 4/D (Dostatočne) - Enough 5/FX (Nedostatočne) - Not enough But be aware that our mothers see everything other than 1/A a bad grade. I cant count how many times I have been scolded and beaten when I did get 2 or 3

In Romania in primary school ( 1-4 grade) we use I (insufficient) S (Sufficient) B (Bine/Good) FB (Foarte bine/very good) and they are pretty much useless because almost all of the students are getting FBs. And from 5 to the 12th grade we use 1-10 which is much more accurate for the evaluation of a student

for Romania, I S B and FB is used only for the classes 1-4 and it basically means I = not good enough , S = sufficient , B = good , FB = very good. For the rest of the classes we use numbers (1 -10) as grades. I hope I helped u guys.

In Finland the grades go from 4-10. 8 being good 9 great 10 excellent. 7 is ok. 6 is meh. 5 is like unsatisfactory but passing. And 4 is a failure.

For minors that is. Then there's the (optional) matriculation exam graded with Latin words (often just single letters for short) I for improbatur (fail) - A for Approbatur (Accepted) B for Lubenter Approbatur C for Cum Laude Approbatur M for Magna Cum Laude Approbatur, E for Eximia Cum Laude and L for Laudatur. Later, there are 1-3 or 1-5 grades.

For the Irish system its H1-H8 ( higher level, most difficult ) O1-O8 ( ordinary level, middle tier) F1-F8 (foundation level easiest) with 1 being highest grade and 8 being lowest.

Bulgaria grading system in the past was 1 to 6, where 2 meant fail but 1 meant that you were caught cheating on a test. Later 1 was removed so we are left with 2-6. Dont know if it's the same with other countries starting from 2

8:40 Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth used a system that was basically a seym. A lot of nobles (szlachta) grouped up and decided on the country's reforms, taxed, etc. The richest nobles (magnaci) held the more important votes. This system however was really bad because it was really corrupt. The richest nobles often bribed the less rich nobles to vote for the reforms and taxes that profited the richest nobles. There was also a thing called LIBERUM VETO that permitted ANY noble to basically just disagree with any reform or tax that was trying to get implemented and it would often postpone or discard the seyms which lead to The Commonwealth being an unreformed and set aback country.

Lot's of generalizations here and a couple of mistakes in your description. Magnates for example didn't hold more important votes. All votes were equal. Liberum Veto did not exist since the beginning of the parliamentary system in Poland. It was created by precedence in the XVIIth century but only started to be abused in the XVIIIth century. The parliament (Sejm) was not composed of nobles that just happen to be grouped in one place, MPs were elected by Sejmiks (literally Little Parliaments) which were the provincial diets, handling the administration of their local lands. The corruption of the system to a high degree only occurred later in Commonwealth's history. Initially, the system worked reasonably well. In short, the system of the Commonwealth could be either described as Noble Democracy or Semi-Constitutional Monarchy.

As someone who has both visited a Russian and a German school, the grading systems can get a bit confusing, as they kinda mirror each other. In Russia 5 is the best you can get and 2 is the worst, while in Germany 1 is the best and 6 is the worst. To this day I have to clarify if my grandparents mean the Russian 2 or the German 2, if we are talking about grades. XD
