6:39 you say that R.E.M. sleep is the final stage of sleep but then the chart at 6:48 shows R.E.M. is 1st, stage 1 is 2nd, stage 2 is 3rd and stage 3 is 4th.

I noticed peoples eyes moved when they slept when was a kid.. I would see if my sister was awake and her eyes would be darting back and fourth and that was how I could tell she was sleeping... If I would of been born 80 years earlier I could of revolutionized this xD

actually, now sleep is viewed in five distinct stages. Stage one and two as you described, stage three as a transitional stage, stage four with long, slow brain waves, and then REM sleep as you described. Otherwise fantastic video. I can't wait for the rest of this Playlist. DFTBA
@TheGoodStuff9 жыл бұрын
Boundless Pictures Yeah, we were looking into that and it seems to have been described both ways. When Dement and Kleitman were working on it, I believe they described 5 stages, but later on, other researchers combined some stages. Anyway, the stages are fluid designations and there can be 4 or 5 of them depending on who you talk to.

What's being measured in these "brain waves"? Is it just amount of activity over time or is there actually something that moves in/through the brain?
@TheGoodStuff9 жыл бұрын
Niki Herl It measures the amount of electrical activity in your brain over time.
