It was built in 2006. The other 3 in South India were built in 1996. But after these 4 SCLs no semiconductor fabrication lab has been built by GOI. Govt must built some of them on its own and allow private sectors too for this.

Actually SCL Mohali was the first SCL which got burnt in 1989 and was rebuilt in 2006. It follows 180nm technology and today we have less than 10nm technology.

The most important point of information missed ! How many million transistors ( as switches ) , and other electronic hardware like, resistors, capacitors, the Inductors, can be accommodated ( in millions, mind you ) can be accommodated in a single chip? What about the Silane Gas, which is used extensively( but dangerous also ) in the photo etching process ?

India used to have a semiconductor factory in the 1970s and the 80s, but it was burned down due to fire. There were rumours that the CIA had something to do with that because India would have made progress in the semiconductor industry.

Aur ek chip assembly plant Assam mai bana rhi hai 27000 crore ki laagat se. Israel ki tower semiconductor bhi India mai 90000 crore ka chip plant bana rhi hai. Micron ne bhi India mai 2.75 billion$ ka chip plant banaya hai.

It is going for consumer market as they have planned to upgrade and overhaul the facilities to manufacture 28nm chips which are mostly used in IoT products and also in automotive applications.
