The MVP conversation this season has just been "how is it not Jokic but this other guy". Even last year they looked for excuses and it has become ridiculous at this point. I would understand if there was a player on a higher seed and that team was ahead by like 7-10 wins but we do not have that this or last year. Same thing happens for Giannis too now.

Totally agree! I would also add that they change what matter more... STATS or TEAM RECORD? In 2021 Luka's team had a better record than Curry's team but Curry lead the league in scoring and he was 3rd in MVP voting as the 8th seed. Now we have Luka leading the NBA in PPG, 3rd in Assists per game and they are 7th in the West while being the most injured team in the league and he's behind 3 or 4 players in the voting! Westbrook triple double MVP season his team record didn't matter at all (6th in EASY west at that time) If OKC falls to 4th in the West and the Mavs get up to 5th or 6th... Luka SHOULD get more votes than SGA. Way better stats, Injured team, only a few games behind. ASIDE: If SGA does win MVP.... Chet cant win ROY!

Namely, there is no clear rule that 7th place cannot have MVP. Jokić is on 4th place now (5 wins from Mavs - 6 % of games), but is clearly Nr.1 candidate. This is 3 positions diff. today. If Mavs move from 7th place to 6 or 5 it is just 1 or 2 postion difference .... What is the rule, which seed is ok? It does not exist! Thus, we should objectively talk about players and their merit first, not the team positions (the award is MV Player, not Team), which should came to discussion at the end with an overall contribution of a player. People say the Nuggets have the best starting 5. That’s just not true. No one other than Jokic is an all star. MPJ and AG aren’t playing well. Jamal missed 20 games and has been inconsistent in play, and when he is on the court without Jokic, Jamal is very average. KCP is a defensive super star but he barely gets guarded on O. And then of course the Nuggets bench is horrible. Yet the Nuggets are just 1 game out of first in a brutal western conf that’s why Jokic is MVP.

It SHOULD be between Luka and Jokic. SGA is good but Luka has 5 more PPG, 3 more APG and 3 more RPG. Luka also has decent defensive stats compared to previous seasons, and the Mavs (with the new additions and the injuries in the rear view ) are most likely gonna finish in the 5 seed. For some reason there’s voter fatigue around Luka despite that he’s never won MVP.

We make some moves at the deadline and get healthy, and whaddaya know? 5 win streak (and counting) immediately. We blew out OKC by 30 points and made SGA look like a scrub. Mavs can easily get to the 4-5 seed before the season ends with their new depth and center rotation.

Once the argument of who scores the most points is lost with Embid's injury, now it's time to campaign for Shai. It's something orchestrated. When he is compared to players like Doncic, where he scores more points, grabs more rebounds, and OH!, he gives almost double the assists, then we talk about defense. Of course, this debate does not arise after the 146-111 with Dallas. That game where Doncic sits out the last quarter because the beating was scandalous. I honestly don't see Jokic over SGA. I'm not saying Jokic is not deserving, but SGA's case is just so much more appealing. They're looking like they'll be the #2 seed (behind T-wolves) and they have no other all-stars, not even close. Nobody was claiming JW or Chet were snubbed. They have one dude who averages an efficient 31 ppg, dishes the ball and might well be the best defensive guard in the league right now. That's an MVP to me. If the OKC reach the #2 seed over Denver, then to me he should win it without a doubt. Jokic is great, but he has better teammates and fewer wins.

Jokic has better teammates because he makes them better whenever he’s off the floor Denver’s doesn’t know how to function. Even tonight showed that while SGA has a big impact he’s not playing by himself. He has an elite three and D player in Dort, a great defensive anchor in Chet, and a burgeoning two way star in Jaylen Williams along with a great coach. SGA is surrounded by talented players that let him do what he wants and covers for his mistakes the same way Jokic’s team does if not more.
