Bismilah. Hey brother Boyd im taking a course with Masterschool currently and am almost finished. I wish I saw your information before I started. I'm planning on joining your program after I finish in December as I don't want to go through all this study and CompTia certification just to make $30,000 a year. I want that six figure money. Blessings to you and what you do.

Found your channel today 11/23/2022 after seeing all those "Day in the life of a software engineer @ Microsoft, Meta, Amazon, etc., just out of curiosity. I see the KZbin Algorithms work well I see. :o) But, I do have an Comp Info Systems degree, BS and graduated with honors back in 92'. Yep, a while now. But I'm not a techy guy and did get a job as an application programmer after many many resume mailings. Yes I said mailings. This was way before Monster, Linkln, etc. Job was in Tysons Corner, VA; I live in Washington, DC. I was working, while earning my degree, as a wire transfer specialist (money transfers) at a major bank. But I didn't last 3 months in the computer job. Well, don't like programming and, my onion, the East Indian guy that took over the team, well, I can tell he didn't like me much. Now was this something with race or something? Maybe, maybe not. I'm black American btw. I Also was tired of driving to VA, not far far outside of DC, just a little past Arlington, VA really. But got the job April 92' and quit something August 92'. Then change of life plans. I worked a few businesses but didn't stick with them long enough. I don't know if you remember when MSSE was big and everybody was advertising training and boot camps. People were getting certifications and getting good paying jobs. I did a 7 - 8 month A+ class along with MCSE which I should have stuck with something less technical. I went back and forth over the years if I wanted to try the computer field again and could have gotten a help desk job at one point. But at my age now, I know I'm not an "office" person or "company person" I'm sure there are great companies out there, but I'm gearing up to start again my entrepreneur endeavor again and this time I'm going to do all I have to do to make it work. I have to since, I'm embarrassed to say, working a job, not a career, a job, basically a call center which I hate phone work and getting paid way, way under what I should be making in a professional career (computers per say). But at 56, I have the thought of, my age may very well become a factor in a company not hiring me. With about 15 years before retirement. But I've learned to never say never. You never know where life will take you. Trust me, I know.

Let them “talk.” I’ve been in IT over 20++ years and the first video I watched of you (that I recall) this year on last week helped me immensely. For many years I’ve been underpaid for all the skills acquired, coupled with the ability to think . I love my new current job (1.75 yrs), and I see myself continuing to build a cross competency, team making them and myself more “valuable” using what I heard.

I’m a cyber security pro making a 120k working fully remotely. I’ve never worked helpdesk or sysadmin job prior. Finished college, got certs and talked my way into my first role and job hopped until I landed my current job. I see jobs I could qualify for paying 150k+ but like my role now as I’m able to dive deeper into areas I don’t have a lot of previous experience in like DevSecOps, cloud security, IAM, etc.

What type of Cyber Security are you doing? I already paid for my A+ Core 1. My goal is to work remotely dong Cyber Security. I’m looking into the Cyber Security Analyst role. But I’m really not sure as of yet. I would like to do something in Cyber Security that has a low stress level. Based of what I’ve heard so far from other sources, pretty much everything related to Cyber Security involves a lot of stress. I beg to differ. What are your thoughts?

My name Julie. Thank you for your program. Just a few days ago I came across your videos. I had stepped away from wanting cyber security because I know I wouldn't be able to take all those certifications they say we have to take, and how long it would take to reach success, some people I knew withdrew their interests in cyber security. But after watching your videos I plan to take your program. GRC PCI. I am coming into this field. You are doing great. You are giving us hope. You have given me hope. My son did the A+ certifications. But he went into phone engineering even though he thought about cyber security. So, you have made a way out for him and many others.

How you relate to the learning of spanish in high school, to getting a good grade in it and then not knowing how to speak it later on is priceless, an adage I apply these days is: don't learn something just in case, learn something just in time to use it...that way you will retain it!

I'm relatively new to tech. I've been employed by Walmart since 2005 in the Logistics/Supply Chain field. I recently took advantage of their free college tuition and I'm attending the University of Arizona Cyber Operations in January for a BAS at walmarts expense. This is all pretty intimidating for a newb. But I am logical and this concept does make sense. While your resume will look colorful with a variety of even a few certs, if you can't answer those "technical" questions for said job--you are most likely not going to get hired. The best you could hope for would be an interview where they don't ask a lot of technical questions. Unless, of course, you have a photographic memory and you can retain all you learned while reading and studying about each cert. Which I know I don't have that attribute. I think the best option here is to have the certs and...have the skills/knowledge both. I also have a question if someone can help. Do these colleges, especially the bigger ones like the UofA, provide the CompTIA+ with their four year degree or is that usually something I will have to pursue on the side?

Congrats on the pivot to IT! I think that is a great plan, and way to make use of the resources they are offering you. Definitely take the time to learn all the basics. While you’re learning, just keep in mind the big picture and how your skills can help with solving business problems. Look at some job postings, read the overview, find out what they want to fulfill, and how your skillset can help them achieve that. A lot of companies will choose the person who demonstrates that and even provide some free training.

I always thought cyber security jobs were all coding very technical. So these jobs you're mentioning are eye opening. Though I have a computer information systems degree, 92', I've never really work in the computer field except a less than three months stint as a programmer which I didn't like. I never thought of myself as technical so knowing these jobs out there are truly eye opening. At this point, I'm venturing back into the entrepreneur landscape, again. Maybe I shouldn't think this way, but at my age, 56, I would think a lot of companies wouldn't want to hire me anyway. I know by law they can't state age, but I'm a realist. But I've learned to never say never. ☺️

Problem is with service security. It’s kind of dictated by everybody else when you need to get stuff done and in turn is very stressful. That’s why you get paid quite a decent amount of money to be honest and it’s even worse in a sock centre which I would recommend people stay away from if possible, unfortunately I think the bar to entry may be in the United States certainly not in the United Kingdom is quite low and so unless you value your stress levels Cybersecurity is definitely not the one to go for. It may seem cool but the reality is a lot different than you may think.

Yea I think that cert scenario came into play around 99 2000 when I started even though the school didn't offer certs we were taught how to apply fixes even if I didn't have a pc in front of me. So in the end knowing and applying is more important than you passing a series of test. I've worked in at least 6 fortune 50s and have zero certs but I know how to do what I'm tasked. I've been trying to transition into security and this program is giving me hope. Because the disaster recovery, ethical hacking, and cyber crime courses left a sour view in this path

He said you need to certifications, because you don't have the skills lol 😆 That is so real. He also said earlier some of the ones who had the certifications sucked at their job. Both of my careers were on job training. I haven't even finished my bachelor's degree and was able to come into a field and make the same money as those with bachelor's and master's degrees. Now I'm ready to get into technology and I'm trying to figure out the best path for me. Thank you for your content it's really helping me figure it out.

If the certs give us the opportunity to talk about certain subjects in IT, where do you recommend for us to get the training so that we could actually know what we are talking about and take action.

How do I sign up or get into your academy? I mean at 50, I've been working refineries for the kast 20+ years and now my knees go out. I have to chooooose a different field. Dropping from 160k/year to entry level is going to be a super hard pill to swallow. It's time. Show me the door. Gonna start at qualys, like you said, then come back for more. What do you think?
