Older engineering vet here. So glad to see you younger folks prioritizing yourselves heavily. It's going to be better for your mental health and pay in the long run. Now make the money. Save it aggressively. Then stop and invest in yourself by starting or buying a business. Whatever you do don't get caught in the corporate trap of increasing your standard of living to match your salary. You'll make it harder for yourself to get out and start your own. Build your standard up with your own business.
@CrypticChaos-y6vАй бұрын
What sort of businesses would you suggest buying?
@storm14kАй бұрын
@@CrypticChaos-y6v DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A FINANCIAL ADVISOR. Any business can fail and you can lose your money. That being said I know how older people always said this type of stuff when I was younger but never told you what or how so I will offer some info. it can depend on where you live but laundromats, vending machine routes and storage facilities tend to be some of the lower risk options out there. I'm working towards a small assisted living facility. Also for some reason in my area car washes are exploding. Like literally every block has a big automated carwash being built right now and I'm not sure why. One thing I had to realize though for myself that was holding me back was that the engineering super power is not about tech. It's about solving problems and you can do that in any arena. Solve the problem of making the numbers work for yourself. Where to put your business. Solve something in your area that is in need of a solution. Don't get caught up thinking you have to become the next SV or Austin startup. The solutions may have nothing to do with tech. Maybe get some of these staple businesses off the ground and then use that to bootstrap your own tech goals.
@CrypticChaos-y6vАй бұрын
@@storm14k it’s crazy you say that. I’ve been reading up on starting or buying businesses. Literally have been looking at laundromats. One I found in my area has vending machines, a wash and dry service, and offers dry cleaning. I just found a contact who is a VP at a private equity firm. I met him randomly at a birthday party. Before he got into private equity he owned a small supplement shop. My plan is to pick his brain on how PE firms evaluate what a small business is worth. Just to understand how much is a fair offer if I were to approach an owner and ask if I could buy their business. Right now I’m still in the learning phase but I realized owning your own business that has constant cash flow is where it’s at. Tech pays really well but yeah it’s good to have some sort of exit strategy. Thanks for being honest and I’m glad I’m not the only person thinking like this!

You can move how you want your a vet. I’m letting companies run me into the ground the first 5 years I’m in because I have no leverage or leg to stand on experience wise. I gotta take whatever pay and come to the office with a smile on my face 😂. I have no kids and I just turned 33 on the 15th and I hear we are heading into a big recession and another round of big tech layoffs, so I’m working on being more efficient with my studies, certs, degree’s and resume and perfecting my craft project wise and technical wise. I come from nothing so I will be money hungry for a long long time that’s just me Bro.

Thank you for this video. I really didn’t understand what Cybersecurity entails. I applied to a Amazon role that sounds just like the position you quit, except my background is in Compliance and I understand the foundations of Risk Management but I don’t have any technical skills or CS degree that the role is also looking for as the preferred skills. Now I understand that I should look into some technical courses on Coursera like SQL and Cybersecurity. Do you have any suggestions on how I should learn about technical processes?

Cool reasoning but ultimately anyone who isn’t fortunate enough to ever reach that type of salary, let alone fortunate enough to be able to comfortably leave a similarly paying position will never like hearing someone say they randomly quit their high paying job Ofc the human element is once we have something (money in this case) we gradually care less for it Of course other things will eventually become more important
