We are a Nielsen family, so much of this is not accurate in my experience. They didn’t come and assess us and install equipment, it’s been longer than two years, there’s no meter counting the people watching, once in a while a random check shows up (not participating for $ so whatever comes is fine).. we just have black boxes that have to be installed next to every tv, (which to me is a pain, one more gadget to be plugged and taking up space, dusted etc and any changes to anything are to be reported to them, who has time?) With most tvs being smart you’d think they could do something more efficient. And since people leave tvs on all the time and watch on their tablets and tv shows offered are obviously not based on our interests, who exactly are these ratings serving? Ad agencies deciding which time slot and station to invest in? Tv shows offered are trend followers, trends that are fed to us essentially. Stupid tattoo shows and Kardashians up the wazoo. Yay.

@@queforeman4761 But isn’t there, tivo used to (or still does)mine data anonymous to determine their own internal ratings that’s probably more accurate then Neilsen. I can only assume cable systems like Warner and spectrum also are able to anonymously log all this information and since it’s anonymous I don’t think people would have a problem with them selling the aggregate as an alternate system two Neilsen. It just comes down to Neilsen’s political control of the system all the lobbying they do to preserve that power with networks and advertisers. there is clearly a better mouse trap but no one’s using it for a public tracking.

It’s not very accurate. I was a Neilson home for several years with 2 systems running home tv ratings and shopping which I had to scan everything. Not enough points for a toothpaste tube squeezer after 3 years. I moved and it was reconnected at new location. I’m very concerned though as I had suspicions about it and just recently realised who my technician was/is though he was called Paul by Neilson & he had turned up at my stepsons birthday party (even more concerning). David Hicks had been captured in Afghanistan but I reported him missing in 1992 when he was 16 after escaping modern white slavery here in Australia. I had how cells worked and police took out a full cell of 4 houses but refused to stake out to get the full thing. I didn’t realise how many people are in their pockets but 1 police officer told me I’d be hiding for life. I have been running and hiding since but got Stockholm syndrome at one point. Hicks turned up not long after I spoke to the senior seargent from the police station I had gone too, I even used the main switchboard for the state to leave a trail but it’s so deep he began subtly threatening a sister of mine who was crop dusted days later. I seem like a fanatic maniac writing this but it’s only weeks since I realised who the Neilson technician was.

I was a member of neilsen tv ratings and they say you get a gift check every 3 months and with me the first check never showed in the mail and win I called my representative he had me call the 800 hundred number on the back of neilsen remote and they said that they would help then talking the same person on the line they said check came to my apartment the first gift check never but the people at mine office giving me a runaround and say check showing it arrived and they said it was showing on neilsen that the check was cashed the same person at neilsen said that my representative was telling them I did not live in apartment and the representative was telling the apartment building was a house and then was telling me the representative was saying my address was not real so I'm telling more people don't sign up for neilsen and yes neilsen use runaround tactic to get people like me who is disabled to give then their bank information so I did not fall for that and neilsen will get my bank info like they wanted and I'm from a small town named Robinson illinois and I'm disabled and proud of it and Trump 24 and neilsen midia tv ratings is a joke more a scam then anything

I've always thought Neilsen ratings was all BS. Imagine that they tally data from thousands of supposed families and the data is the reason why we see the shows from decades of Television. And this is all dictated by a handful of people who will basically say, in closed doors... yah this show is good....this show no good. Internet and streaming services however are different because all data is dynamic. It can be manipulated...but dynamic. The people have the power to see what they want...for now. But it's slowly changing though.

You might think the math works out but many highly loved shows were canceled because 40k samples is not enough against 300 million. Polls don’t work. If nobody you’ve ever met has been polled, polls are meaningless and difficult if not impossible to verify. Most execs are too stupid to understand basic statistics and then Neilson people blow a bunch of smoke up everyones ass and try to justify their existence with deceptively simple arithmetic. It’s a joke. A joke that isn’t funny due to the sheer number of careers that have been destroyed. Involving race is as you might expect the definition of racism. Hey Mark, do we have enough hillbillies on the system? How about poor people? How about poor people of color? It’s non sense. It is soft science and it’s shameful. You cannot expect to get an appropriate sample with 40k of 300 million. And don’t forget, a focus group decides what Americans want based on absolutely nothing. Focus groups don’t work. People say what they think they’re supposed to say. You can never get an honest representation of anything if the people in question know they’re being monitored and judged. It just doesn’t work. The measurement of “random families” who know they’re being monitored does not reflect the public interest. Go jump in a lake.

It's a survey of 45,000 people, not 350 million. It's very inaccurate in terms of what the general public watches.
@lilpineapple34895 жыл бұрын
TitanIsBack correct. And on top of that Nielsen actually took boxes out of 10s of thousands African American homes in 2018 and did not replace them, leaving many black skewed stations in the red and scrambling to make up ad dollars that were promised a certain viewership. Nielsen basically controls what shows work and what doesn’t, what networks/platforms go long and which ones tank. It’s pretty f*cked up.
