Hi Jason. I’ve recently discovered you on the socials and just subscribed to your channel here. I’ll touch on two points you brought up in this video. 1. The issue of camera snobbery. Seven years ago I made the decision to sell my DSLR gear and become a mobile photographer shooting with an iPhone. This has done more for my photographic life than anything I did or could have done with a DSLR. I have the longest running podcast dedicated solely to iPhone photography and I’ve recently published a book about macro photography with the iPhone. Over the years I’ve heard photographers who use traditional cameras make comments that deny the fact that the iPhone is a real camera. You are the first one who has actually stated a justifiable reason for any such claim by saying it’s because they’re good enough at their craft that they can determine what settings to use to make the capture. While I see that as a justification, I still don’t think there’s room in the photography space for this kind of snobbery. We are all artists who just paint with different brushes. 2. How I get out of a creative rut. I find macro photography to be a great way to revive my creativity because once I start finding subjects, the photos just keep coming. I agree about the phone snobbery, take a look at some of the comments on my iPhone vs Fujifilm video. I think the point I was trying to make regarding using iPhones (smartphones) was that if you understand the technical elements of shooting, especially with a larger camera, you should not be concerned about allowing Apple/Samsung et all choose some of those setting for you. I think a lot of phone snobbery comes from people believing that to take a photo you should make all the settings, when in reality allowing a phone to control certain elements, frees your mind up to be more creative. Macro is not something I have really concentrated on. although I believe the iPhone 15 Pro can do decent macro. I t would have to be flora rather than fauna though as I have an almost paranoid fear of bugs :)

@@JasonRowPhotographyI’m not a fan of bugs either but I do enjoy taking macro shots of them - even as close as a few mm away - because it’s on my terms, not the bugs LoL.
