I purchased a 23 in September before the recall. My truck was manufactured in August of 23 so i didn't receive a recall notice but the dealer gave me a free no cost Lifetime unlimited mileage full powertrain warranty. Toyota needs to make this right and give every tundra owner a Lifetime unlimited mileage warranty

Lots of people in the comments dont seem to understand what a "SAFETY" recall is. There will be no extended warranty. Toyota will have to either replace the engines. The recall literally states that affected Tundras is a possible crash risk. Gm, ford, kia, BMW, VW all had to replace engines in the past. Toyota can do the same

Buy back my 22’ with 11,750 miles, first motor oil & filter change at 950 miles and then changed another 3X’s, never driven in the winter no exposure to salt, fresh rear differential oil. FULL DISCLOSURE: it has door wind noise, there’s a risk of a gas tank fire no remedy yet, it may still move when in neutral, it’s plagued with recalls, is has NO tow hooks AND bonus the engine has milling debris trapped in the engine bearings! $62K and it all yours Toyota.

When you take off oil filter cut it open and examine for shavings.. Consider oil filter magnets.. I would also go with a very high end oil filter such as amsoil.. Dude opening my rear diff I found a lot of break in metal on the magnet.. its kind of normal for bearing to deal with this.. Document all of this with pictures and receipts... Also change oil 5000 km for now... or maybe several thousand km max.. I would go with amsoil signature series for now and keep your receipts... I would also up oil viscosity from 0w20 to 5w30..

I would say extended warranties would for sure go a long way in helping me feel a little better. At the moment I feel like I have a BMW or something. I have a 2022 1794 iForce Max that I got in September of 2022, on the cusp of being a 2023. This was my 4th Tundra, had a 2002, 2008 and a 2015 1794 Supercharged and I do not miss my 2015,, which was a great truck but my 2022 is superior in many ways. I live in Surprise AZ and haul a UTV and trailer many times a year north to Utah and Surprise being at 1296 feet above sea level and Flagstaff being at 7000 feet it is mostly uphill for 145 miles. My 2015 pulled the trailer and UTV well but trying to maintain the speed limit of 75MPH uphill it had to get in the over 4000 RPM many times and was screaming when it did so, my 2022 does this with out having to get in the upper RPM range to do the same, mainly around 2300, much quitter and comfortable not to mention almost twice the MPG than my 2015. When I purchased my 2022 I also included an extended warrantee for around $2000.00 minding that caution on buying a new model year. The technology in my 2022 is also most welcome from my 2015, safer in many ways and features that make driving it a real pleasure. Sure they, Toyota are having issues, same as the other big three but I would rather have issues with Toyota than any of them as I feel confident Toyota will resolve this as they have in the past. The issue with metal shavings in the pan is a human issue, someone let their responsibility for inspections down.

My local Toyota dealership has done 6 short block replacement and 5 have already come back for the same issue. This was in the past 6 months. Bottom line is, I love Toyota but they really screwed up this time. This is what happens when we let the EPA have so much control. Toyota MUST offer FULL ENGINE REPLACEMENT as the remedy for the recall. Short block replacement does not address any debris that may have worked their way into the upper parts of the engine, Also what about all the other bearings in the engine that may have been exposed to the " manufacturing debris ".

They still have the V8 in the LC500 & RCF. The 5 liter V8 puts out good HP. A 10 speed trans, 3.50 gears in the Tundra would be a great combination, IMO. It would pair well with the new designed truck , too. 😄

Agreed it’s a design issue. The main bearings have too much play, and are not being properly lubricated with oil. Check out the short blocks they pulled from the affected trucks, the bearings are not only scored but they are smoked. Main bearing is black, that indicates lack of oiling.

Redesign is what will correct the issue because this is a design flaw. Unfortunately a full redesign takes way too much time and money. They'll never do it. Engine replacement is pointless. It's like swapping out a bad part for the same bad part. I've worked in the auto industry for 18 years and I can tell you they will do just enough to get out of legal/government trouble. Remember, it's not illegal too make a bad product, just a bad idea.

I think they’re going to suspend production, buy back what has been sold, and redesign the power train. Story for context….back in the 1980’s, my family owned a Yamaha dealership. Yamaha discovered a defect in the engine design of the SRX440 snowmobile. They issued a buy back, and sent some techs to our dealership to load up the ones we had on the showroom floor. Before loading them, they literally took a sledge hammer to the engines and destroyed them. Unfortunately, the SRX440 never came back into production. It morphed into the Vmax 535 about 2 years later. So, I vote they will buy back these trucks and put them through the chipper.

I don’t think an extended warranty only is an option with it being a safety related recall. My opinion is the only reason the Max isn’t in this recall is because they will still move if the engine fails. I believe in the future they will be listed in the recall also.

I’d like to hear what ole Mike sweers is saying about this. It sounded like in an interview a few years ago, he really wanted to keep the v8 but due to epa regulations, there was really no way around keeping the v8 over the ttv6 even though it has been proven that the v6 is not getting any better fuel economy over the v8 from everyone that owns these ttv6. I have driven Toyota trucks for the past 40 years for one reason - bullet proof quality. I'm now driving a 2020 Tundra TRD Pro and I love it. It seems to me that Toyota lost the sauce with the new gen in changing too many things at one time. I think they should have kept the tried and true V8 for at least the first couple of years. Toyota's reputation IS QUALITY. I sincerely hope that they make good on this recall and get things right. Their reputation rides on this.

I have a 2022 Tundra Hybrid 1794. It has had both waste gates on the turbos fail at different times. Those repairs were beyond frustrating. Three weeks each time, as it is a cab off fix. 😢Now this. I have added a leer camper, winch, lift,lighting etc. costing thousands of dollars making this truck into an overlanding rig. At this point I’m screwed. This truck isn’t part of the recall because as I understand it,it isn’t a safety recall issue because the hybrid part of the system can safely get you off the road. But it is the same 3.5 twin turbo v6 that is in the other Tundras. As a lifelong Toyota buyer I’m angry and bitterly disappointed. Now every time I drive the truck, I am just waiting for the next shoe to drop. When you go way out into the middle of nowhere pulling an offroad camper and your engine fails. Who the hell is going to tow you out? It is now officially the single worst financial mistake I have made on such a large purchase. The only thing I want Toyota to do at this point is offer Full lifetime drivetrain warranty,with towing paid for by Toyota and not my insurance,wherever the truck might be when it fails.

I think everyone knows what Toyota "should" do. At a bare minimum, completely new engines (long blocks) in every affected vehicle. I'm just afraid there are so many vehicles involved that it would be too much of a financial blow to them to do so. They might eventually come to the conclusion that they have to take the hit and do the right thing to remain viable as a company. Really a great video today. Thank you. I am very glad that I have been a procrastinator about replacing my 2014 Tundra TRD Offroad that is chugging along just fine with a mere 120,000 miles. Regarding your list of proposed remedies to the current engine situation I would have engine replacement AND extended warranty at the top of the list. Going back to the much loved 5.7 L V8 would be great, but what is the situation with the assembly line that produced it? If it's sitting somewhere under care and maintenance that's fine. But what if it had to be recreated? That could introduce problems similar to what is happening now. Just a thought. I have confidence that Toyota can resolve the current engine manufacturing issues. The question is how long will it take? First they should take care of customers that have been affected with this issue.

I agree with the "replace the engine" AND "extend the warranty", with conditions. Cannot just replace just a short block, unless you want to see the truck back when the metal laying in the top end washes back down to the crankcase. Conditions: inspect all the engines and immediately replace all the ones that have metal present. Ones with no metal should be subject to some reasonable interval reinspection. As for the just put a V8 back in it, there could be some compromise reached by putting in a 4.6 like the one in the GX. Surely that thing could be tuned to put out more that 302 hp. Caveats: do you trust any dealer to give you an honest result. They have to allow some interaction with the owner. Can you trust just an inspection of oil drained from the engine, or do you need to see the oil screen in the pump inlet screen?

I’m a hardcore Toyota guy from way back and am now driving my 7th Toyota vehicle. That said, the issue Toyota is having is that they sold a defective engine product to their consumers. Anything short of a full engine replacement leaves the current Gen 3 Tundra owners at a negative trade-in value in future years. I don’t think “buy back” is a realistic option for Toyota. Agree with those who say that the V8 should be an option. The most important thing people should do is vote the Dems out of office in November. They are the numbnuts that have created this fiasco by penalizing manufacturers, and ultimately consumers.

They need to bring them all in for oil analysis. Drop the pans. Inspect the pickup screen. Scope the motors where they're prone to failure. If an issue is found, full motor replacement. Extend warranties to full coverage as long as you own your vehicle and refund your warranty if you bought one. And give free services for as long as you own it. That's gear oil, engine oil, and trans services. As well as coolant replacement. Compensate people who have paid out of pocket based on their tundra failing. As far as bringing back the V8. I say its never gonna happen until they can get a v8 within current emission standards. Let all just agree that we'd all rather have the Hilux lol.

I don't have a Toyota Tundra, but am in the process of considering one. The primary reason is their reliability and their ability to address a problem in a timely manner. I would prefer a V-8 and that's why I am considering a used 2020 or 2021. I am also considering a 2024, with the potential for a deal and no miles. Out of your options to address the recall, I have my hand up for a V8 with a 10 speed. Knowing that the earliest they could manufacture those units would be a 2025 later in the winter or early spring. Thinking from a corporate perspective and dealer as well, buy back the units or take them as trades, and then ship them to a plant to specifically do the engine replacements. Then back to dealers to sell as a Toyota Certified vehicle to reduce the overall warranty impact to their financial statements. Plus it may win back the loyalty of those current owners who are on the fence and the customers who may be hesitant about stepping into the Toyota family.

I’ve spoken to the Toyota corporation and I was informed that a buyback option is in the works, what I told them is that I would prefer them to buy back my vehicle, so they are looking into doing that. and they wanted to know if I would be interested in trading to a newer year and model. Also told by some technicians that this new tundra is nothing but problems, and I should trade it in as fast as possible. So at the moment they gave me a rental vehicle for a month and we will see where it goes after that.

Well i traded in a 2019 tundra for a 23 tundra limited trd off. 100% satisfied with the 23 over the 19. 0 issues with mine until i watch videos like this lol

Full engine replacemet for all years and extended warranty. But not until the fix all the issues. This may have been brought to light early by engine debris, but i think it is say there is an issue with the main bearing. They need to revise the design of the main bearing. Which they could and should do.

4:24 A full engine replacement will show on a carfax and willl lower resale value even further. Plus, removing an engine and replacing it will never return your truck to “new”. There should be some cash to customer involved as well.

I think the best end game is that Toyota comes out with a 2nd generation V35A-FTS with a beefed up bottom end, make darn sure that something else will blow before the bearing quits, even if not necessary from an engineering prospective.

I am getting 20 MPG on my 2024 I-Force Max Limited compared to 13 MPG with my old 2016 Tundra. Nice change as along as it's reliable and now that is a big question mark???

One word.... Buyback regardless of how they make this repair I have no faith in my tundra. The only thing that would be a distant 2nd longblock, 200k bumper to bumper warranty for 10 year minimum, and a check for 10% of MSRP as clearly we are the beta testers and we should be paid for this mess!

@@seinundzeiten IDK of any serious engineering solution like that (yet). I do remember hearing the Gen 3 truck frame rails are slightly narrower than Gen 2 truck. But BMW make a small V8 that fit in the M3, and there is the Supra BMW collaboration. ... also I can't se that lexus V8 being too much larger.....Even though I suggest it and wish it could happen, Toyota will burn itself to the ground before they ever put a v8 back in the tundra. Hopefully they reign it in but it looks bad for now. I can't imagine what this will cost them, plus toyota japan just got caught forging emission data....quite the downward spiral......

I still have confidence in Toyota over just about any other company. My Daughter has a Ford Edge that has a design flaw in the engine that causes head gasket failure and they are not standing behind it.

I always hear emission mentioned. Would be a great topic to do a deep dive into. I look at the stickers and the emissions don't vary much and neither does the fuel economy. So, why are these emissions such a factor in engine choice?

It all has to do with the CAFE standards that are set by the federal government! Saving 1 mpg per vehicle means nothing to you and me but saving 1mpg to the car manufacturers means everything to them in order to meet the CAFE standards! Just think about how much more expensive it is for them to add twin turbo chargers to a v6 engine than it would have been to have kept the almost Indestructible V8 engine that they have been using for years? So in all fairness every car manufacturer has their backs against the wall trying to meet the year after year increase mpg CAFE requirements! Now the CAFE requirements for light trucks have been in effect since 1982and back then the mpg requirement was 17.5 mpg and as of 2020 the mpg requirement for light trucks was 31.0 mpg! Now just think about a 5k pound truck driving 31 miles on a single gallon of gasoline? The car and truck manufacturers have an unimaginable task trying to meet the year after year after year increase in mpg to meet the CAFE requirements set by people who have zero automobile experience! The only way to give the CAFE folk who are simply asking for the impossible to save the planet and democracy is to simply stop building a single new car or SUV or light truck until Congress and the EPA learns how think rationally! 31+ mpg for a truck and in 2024 cars have to average 45 mpg! It’s like driving your gas powered lawnmower 45 miles on a single gallon of gas! lol. Insanity!!

First, I want to say that I really enjoy your channel. I agree 100% with bringing back the V8 with a 10 speed transmission with a twin turbo V6 option. Let the market decide what it wants. I personally hate the design of the 3rd Gen Tundra. In my opinion, the 2nd Gen is still the best looking truck on the road. They should've beefed up the 2nd Gen design, modernized the interior, and taken a more innovative approach to fuel economy with a 10 speed transmission 5.7L V8. Recently, I've seen AI renderings of what people 'think' the 2025 refresh will look like and some of them look more like a modernized 2nd Gen. Those AI renderings look much better than this current 3rd Gen and in my opinion, are exactly what Toyota should've been going for on this redesign.

Regardless of options mentioned, the recall is there because of SAFETY. The warranty extension or even a vehicle replacement doesn't meet the fix, main reason of the recall, the problem has to be fixed before the trucks should be on the road. The only option is a engine replacement or proven fix. I do not believe the 5.7 or the parts vendors have it still in production or are the lines set up for it's installation.

I think the Buy-Back option is the BEST option for Toyota to issue. Yes it will hurt the company, but customer satisfaction and “perception” of a company who cares is way more important now. Tundra as a truck will really be hurt.
