If there is one overwhelming cause of all of these problems, it is the discipline of economics. It has tentacles in government, business, and all areas of life. Neo-classical economics is a self-referential model, so it takes no input from social, ecological or thermodynamic reality. It pretends to be scientific, but it is an ideology. It immediately works to discipline any change that does not favour capital. If we cannot reformulate a new way to think about how we are organized, and how relate to the earth system and each other we will only be rich in economic terms. And by that I mean, a few of us will have a lot of money, but no food or water. The rest of us will be angry and sick. None of this is surprising, but economists are still advising PM’s and mouthing off at the media about what is, and what is not possible. Change how we think, and we can start to live in reality again.

I'm sorry. It took me several minutes to stop laughing over your absurd comment. There is no threat of a 65m sea level rise. More than 135 scientific papers say that even a doubling of CO2 - expected in about 200 years at the current rate of increase - will cause less than 3.0 degrees C warming, most saying around 1.0C. According to the IPCC, in the last 140 years the global average temperatures have risen just 1.1 degrees C. Most people wouldn't notice a one-degree shift n normal daytime temperatures over 2 minutes. As for the hysterical "failure of all current crops", the UN Food and Agriculture Organization has told us for the last five years at the production is at or near record levels.

Climate Change: Ice cores show several ice ages in the last 500 thousand years. They show we are probably in a short warming period for 11,000 years. We are in the Quaternary ice age. Humans are helping, but can't stop the warming. We will have to simply move north and south to adapt. It is not a big thing in the grand scheme of things. We actually have destroyed so much we need to start using the new land to the north and south. The magnetic North is moving towards Siberia faster and faster. They say their model predicts the pole will continue to move towards Siberia by up to 660 kilometers (370 miles) in the next decade.

This drought is killing ground ecosystems and they will be diminished so far that effects can be seen years or even decades to come. This triggers carbon emissions from the ground storages, makes floods with huge runoffs with top soil, can be the starting point of desertification, makes areas more vulnerable for wild fires, raises vulnerabilities of pest attacks, makes rives, ground water and all other water storages running low on water for years to come... If this continues like in parts it have continued at least 3 years now, then the consequenses are devastating. Areas are hardly suistaining any agriculture (reports of 30% losses was made in many areas month ago and situation is still worsening), any wild fires will grow huge in these conditions, wildlife will suffer with possibility of extinctions, lakes that dry enough kills their fish and other species completely, ... Consequences for human health and life are coming, but yet we have seen just the start of these bad events. Some have died during heatwaves, but more harm will come if we permanently lose the top soil and ecosystems in these areas. We need to stop burning. We need to repair our way of life, starting with consuming less. We need to make our economy to take count all aspects of nature, natural resources, harms done while making anything, end processes, ... We have to renew our agriculture and food consumption so we have less impact on nature. We need to leave 50% of Earth's surface to the wildlife without any human meddling. Alternative is rapily worsening catastrophy that leads to mass extinctions and in possibility for extinction of mankind.

This! I've been working on turning our property into a Regenerative Food Forest because it's going to get so bad that if you don't grow or raise your own food, you won't eat. Where I live is beach sand so it's a very labor intensive process but it will be worth it. I'm planting Moso Bamboo (yes, I'm using a Rhizome Barrier to keep it contained) along the West side of the property to provide shade and cooler temperatures for the house and yard. Bamboo absorbs twice as much CO2 than any other plant and releases 30% more Oxygen, plus it can be harvested and used for basically anything. As it is right now, the garden suffers tremendously from the heat and the leaves of the plants turn almost white because of the intense UV Rays. We are doing everything we can to mitigate, adapt and prepare for the dangerous years ahead.

The Central Valley, which produces something like 20 percent of America's food, lies just west of me. Farmers are tearing out their dying trees and watching crops die in their fields because of a lack of water. At least 300 million trees have died in our mountains in the last ten years. Forest fires are getting bigger and bigger. Over 100 of my neighbors lost their homes just a month ago. And, it turns out the direct threat of fire is stressful, yes. But, we've been having months of deadly smoke with particulate levels from 200 to over 700 ppm. And, residential water wells are starting to go dry. Whole towns are running out of water. And, I'm not alone. Fires are burning from Australia to the Amazon and Siberia to Spain. It was over 103 F in London this year, and it was 121 F in Southwest Canada last year. Scientific models show that, given our current rate of CO2 and methane emissions, that we can expect 3 degrees C, or more, warming in by the end of this century. We gave to this point only seen 1.2 degrees of warming, and yet, that has been enough to cause crisis after crisis throughout the entire Northern Hemisphere this summer. Laugh, Johnson, you alone. The historical temperature data says or current climate is cooler. The 1920’s and 30’s were much hotter. There is evidence that the current temperatures being used to make policy decisions that affect millions are manipulated. CO2 is our friend; not a pollutant. CO2 was much lower in the Roman, and medieval warm periods when the Danes discovered and settled in a land they called Greenland. The English grew grapes to rival French wines. The media never ever mention these things.

We should adapt to the climate by making a plan, and then sticking to it. I know it seems hard but we just have to make up our minds as a global society about what priorities we are going to value moving forward. You could have 1000 different studies to show to emitting corporations that they are going to kill the planet by the end of the century and they will stubbornly follow the money. We honestly should not wait for them to think about it anymore and just start enforcing sustainable policies as one international community. People are just going to have to accept that lifestyles will have to change and be less exorbitant in order to provide widespread sustainability, but not enough people have the infrastructure to safely "downgrade" a little so that we may thrive in the future. This is mostly due to unmitigated feudal capitalism and to the pursuit of egregious affluence. I think it is irresponsible as an individual to put all of our eggs into the hands of politicians whose foundations are built upon conflicts of interest. I fear if we do not take our power back as a unified global force that we will be slowly boiled to death like a frog. How long is humanity going to wait for our leaders to do the right things before we defend ourselves, if at all? We all see the catastrophic destruction around us on a global scale. What are we waiting for? Are we all content with this suicide cult we have become apart of? Are we fine with death if it happens civilly? The window for the prevention of global climate catastrophe has closed. Our chances of survival diminish every single day. An example of a cultural Segway that may change in the ways required for climate health is the implementation of basic universal programs that cater to human needs. Programs such as universal basic income, or even so much as healthcare would be a good start. These actions can afford humanity the plasticity to adapt to climate events and logistical changes within policy. Other options include economic policy changes to redistribute capital across a society's wealth gap. For example re-evaluating the profit motive in the USA, and through policy, make the maximum wealth gap 30/70 instead of -50/150. I know that businesses and billionaire will complain, but who cares if it saves the rest of us along with all of our future generations? What can anyone or any group do that justifies causing the mass extinction that we are currently experiencing? The money can threaten to leave and resume activities elsewhere but I'm starting to believe in the effectiveness of the draconian measure of considering that an act against humanity and trying them in military tribunals. We simply can't afford to f!#$ around with this anymore. I know it is cliché and really edgy to say but there is a strong chance that we all really do die like sheep in the near future. For example, there are new studies that are alluding to a cataclysmic event by 2100 when the ocean temperatures rise above what is required for oxygen-synthesis in plankton, essentially cutting the world off from 75% of its oxygen supply. And that is just ONE thing that will happen if we don't organize and do something. People don't want to live through abstinence of action, the consequences are too grim to imagine, even with all of the "doom" science out there. TLDR: Focus on the health of our societies and our environments, instead of the money. But everyone knew that already... At least I got to bark at the wall for a little while.

@kaitlyn6853
@kaitlyn6853 2 жыл бұрын
@@mikeharrington5593 Yes! However universal programs go hand-in-hand with resource management, since a universal program has the fewest logistical cost (think corporate-style bureaucracy). Logistically all of the funds that were going to the state-officials to test whether people or not meet the qualifications of pitiful welfare gets pooled into one function. This way we don't have to waste our capital on socialized discrimination. Right now a rampant problem in policy is the excessive funneling of funds into useless logistics and executives that serve no productive purpose. Programs are kept impotent due to partisan straw manning and a game of semantics is played until there are no winners and everyone loses. The politicians delude themselves by considering getting hurt less than their opponent a victory, but rest assured this is mutual annihilation in slow motion. And the first people to feel the bite of this are the very people the government is supposed to be there for most.
