With Cadeceus... He was a character whose idea was tied deeply to the partys grief and was around to help them deal with Mollys death. I one time had a character LEAVE the group for RP reasons... And everyone in my party was so mad at me and abusive to the new character that i damn near quit the hobby. I widh i had left that group... Things only got worse with that party.

I’m happy I found this. I’m quite familiar with dnd, but have never created a character. This gives me a few good ideas to talk about with a dm. And you’re pleasant to listen to.

My biggest problem with long campaigns is that the party dynamics tend to get pretty stale towards the end. RPG characters seldom have as drastic arcs as the characters in movies or literature, so they tend to remain pretty stagnant personality-wise. Once you figure out everyone's "gimmick", you can pretty quickly learn to anticipate how problem scenarios will be solved within the group. To tell the horrible truth, I actually kinda look forward to character deaths in super long campaigns, just so there would be a reason to get a new personality into the group and make it feel fresh again. I've never had a problem with it. The way the character creation often tends to happen in the groups that I play with, is that everyone kinda makes their character on their own and show up to the first session without necessarily even thinking that deeply about their personality before hand. While it is a fun experience to have everyone "reveal their hand" at the same time and see what kind of mess you have landed upon, the novelty of that initial giddiness wears out rather quickly. When a new character gets introduced to the game later on, experienced players can actually design the character around the rest of the party and make sure the character will have interesting friction with the other PCs or that their personality will fill a void that was previously there. Btw, you guys are making really great content! You deserve way more subs! :D

I found this channel from Reddit, I’ve really been enjoying these! Keep up the great work. As a relatively new dm I love hearing both of your perspectives on the game. Looking forward to more videos!

The characters do not live in a vacuum Simply call the new character some else they know.

Im a new DM, and have never played before, starting a campaign with 4 other friends who have also never played before. Do you have any tips on how i can subtly help my players with their RP? Most of them seem like they want to RP their character but may be a bit shy or embarrassed.
