There’s something about toy ads that makes them timeless to me. Yeah they may have outdated references sometimes, but regardless of how old they are they still manage to appeal to the child in me and make me want this toy even if for a second

I find it hilarious how people who complain about modern comic adaptations staying too far from the source material continue to defend 'Batman '89' despite how that film took some liberties with the Batman mythos. However, I won't deny the cultural impact that it had, and how it paved the way for the much beloved 'Batman TAS'.

89 did take a lot of things from the comic though. Unlike the Catwoman movie that took nothing from the comic.

Its always interesting to be reminded of toys being repurposed in various lines. I guess mattel was most notorius for this with the reused tooling from Big Jim, remaking the Motu slime pit several times, and repurposing new adventures he-man as John Spartan in their Demolition Man line.

I never knew about the Silverhawks, to be honest. But then again, I was a child of the mid-'80s, so I didn't know any better about the repurposing. I'd love to know more about the Dark Knight collection, to be honest with you.

I never cared for Batman 89 either, yet ironically I'm still very fond of Batman Returns, despite it being even MORE fast and loose with the source material. I'd argue even today, it's hard to find just one 'definitive' Batman figure. For my shelves of 6-inch scale comic goodness, I settled on the Burton-colored DCUC Batman, and it's staying unless Mafex reissues their 'Knight Crusader' in black and grey.

I think I had a Batman like that in childhood, albeit in yellow over gold, but otherwise identical. I always found reuse across brands interesting, like the Big Jim tigers repurposed for Battle Cat and Panthor in He-man. I remember in high school though picking up some carded Toy Biz DC stuff upto and including The Flash and Two Face with his oversized windup coin flip, TB looked like they were trying to ape Superpowers with their articulation scheme.
