The fact Leon understands there is an outside world from his aquarium and that he could possibly throw stuff that bothers him out of the water is astounding and shows a good bit of intelligence and situational awareness.

That is well put. To me, shellfish used to be in the same category as insects (as to "intelligence/consciousness") but now I think it is a bit more complicated (since we know that e.g. octupuses are highly intelligent, why wouldn't lobsters?) and Leon shows us that there is more than enough reason to doubt. ☺️

Agreed, this man has the most wonderful, reassuring energy. I'm so glad he's sharing it with some lucky animals, and giving them the best possible life. I pray he will keep precious lil' furry tripod, Jet. With his disability, he deserves a really special home. On the plus side, I believe it's better for a four legged animal to lose a back, rather than a front leg - balance is easier if they have both front legs, and they are better able to adapt to that centre of gravity.

It's fascinating to see Leon try to throw the acrylic item out of the aquiarium, to me that shows that he has remarkable understanding not just of his environment, but where he is (that he is in an aquarium and not in the sea), and what's outside.

It’s really good that you’re trying new things with Leon to keep him entertained. In the animal keeping world we call this “Enrichment” and it’s basically changing up the animals environment or how it gets its instead of just putting it in front of them. It’s been proven that it really contributes to the animals welfare and health overall and is especially crucial for intelligent animals in captivity because it keeps their minds engaged so they become bored or even depressed. Leon seems very happy in his environment and you’re doing an amazing job in keeping him entertained and healthy!

Helpful tip: When trapping scared cats, cover the trap with a big towel or sheet as soon as possible. It helps calm them by giving them a sense of security. You'll see when you pull the cover back, they will always retreat to the covered side for safety. Thank you so much for helping this little family💕

Brady, our girl Lulabelle at the age of 13 developed cancer in her hind left leg. I was worried about how she would do. 13 years earlier Lulabelle had come to us as a stray, brought over by the large barn tom cat from the farm next door. He kept pushing her toward us. As we had hoped she would go away as we had two mature cats one of whom was very territorial. After trying to avoid taking her in one night I was sitting out on our patio and she was eating seed off of the bird tray feeder. She saw me and jumped into my lap and it was game set and match. Now 13 years later we were faced with either letting her live with the cancer as long as she could comfortably or amputating the leg. I wasn't sure about it. She was an indoor outdoor cat but everyone told me she do fine without it. She did. We brought her home from the surgery. The vet had told us to keep her in a room for the first few days by herself. We set up for her in our lowest level of the house and put up a gate to keep her in. I stayed with her but five minutes out of the carrier she had knocked the gate over and was upstairs. So much for that she lived to be 18 continued to hunt, and drove away the large tom cat from around the corner every time he came to visit. I'm sure jet will do fine.
@glamdolly30
@glamdolly30 Жыл бұрын
Lulabelle certainly chose you! And what a blessing she was, God love her. Lovely post, thanks for sharing! It's always great to hear a cancer story where that horrible diagnosis wasn't the end. 18 is a great age for a cat. Our last surviving cat, a female tortoiseshell called Poppy, turns 18 in early November (please God), Aside from an over active thyroid, for which she has daily medicine (and inevitably, bad teeth), she's in fine fettle, without any evidence of elderly ailments like arthritis. We believe her good health is due to her feral origins - we found her and her brother Tiger at just a few days old, in the 8ft tall dovecot in our garden. They weren't born in there - we later realised their mother had somehow managed to jump up there from the shed roof, with each kitten in her mouth, when rain made their first den on the ground unsafe. It was an incredible feat of athleticism, and so soon after giving birth too! I'm glad to say we caught, neutered and released Mama cat, who was sadly too wild to be adopted. Poppy is a lifelong home bird, who never wanders more than a few feet from the back door to smell the flowers. Her brother however had the typical male wanderlust (despite being neutered). Adopted by a family member, he was much loved, and tragically run over and killed on a road while venturing miles from home, aged 7. Sadly we lost our other cat Tommy earlier this year, aged 15. The first sign there was anything wrong, was that he went off his food. When we took him to the vet they said he was suffering from heart failure, put him in an oxygen tent for the day, and gave him diuretics to clear fluid from his lungs. We were thankful to bring him home, but the vet warned us he was a good age for such a big cat, and we should prepare for the worst. He had a final, quiet 2 weeks with us, eating less than usual, and rarely venturing outside as he had before - he didn't attempt the steep garden steps any more. Early one morning I found him laid out on the hearthrug, like he was asleep. Somehow I knew right away he had left us. I stroked his beautiful grey fur, told him we loved him, and thanked him for being our boy. Saying goodbye to beloved companions is so hard, but what joy they give us while they are here! Take care. XXX

Holy shit, your editing / story-telling just keeps getting better. The premise of Leon was genius to begin with, but you've really taken it up 100 notches and flourished as a story telling videographer even throwing in little tidbits of what we can look forward to next episode. Maybe, if you get a bigger tank, it might be cool to save another lobster and get Leon a friend? I just googled if lobsters are sociable: _"Lobsters are social creatures. Similarly to dolphins, lobsters create social relationships and explore their natural surroundings using complicated signals."_ That would be interesting. Anyway, well done Brady, really enjoying the channel.

We had to TNR a stray mother cat who had 6 kittens at the place where my parents work. The mom is actually really sweet and even tried to encourage her kittens to come up to us when we’d spend time with her even tho they were shy. She’s a Tortoiseshell and the community just calls her “Mama Kitty” and everyone knows who she is and loves her. We managed to trap all 6 kittens and mama and took them to a rehab facility where they could be fixed and potentially find good homes. We eventually had to take back mama and one of her kittens back because they deemed the kitten too feral to be adopted. Mama cat and her daughter still hang around where my parents work after 2 years and we feed them every day and the daughter is finally starting to warm up to us. We would take them, but we already have 2 cats and 3 dogs at home and that’s about as many as we can take. Maybe one day we’ll find them both home, who knows.

This comment hits near and dear to my heart. We had a small colony of feral kitties where I live. One beautiful gray girl, two gorgeous dilute tortoise shells, and a lusciously soft midnight black girl. Midnight was the first to adopt me. About a day after I adopted a puppy little Midnight came running up to us and decided that my puppy was her new best friend. It was clear she was in heat, too. And probably pregnant already. She was so young this would be her first litter, I was sure. Not long after I met Midnight my neighbor texted me excitedly to say that a beautiful long hair tortoise shell had just walked into her home. My neighbor said her name would be Fluffy. And she would be having kittens soon. The next day, another text. Fluffy was having her kittens!!! I rushed right over. Of the 3 beautiful babies born only Echo survived. Almost completely white with patches of dilute calico in her lusciously soft long fur. I asked if I could have little Echo when she was ready. My neighbor happily said that I could. And then there was Spot, a gorgeous short haired tortoise shell. Only she wasn't gorgeous yet. She was badly malnourished with very thin fur. I made it my goal to help her with that. She very quickly became tame. A few weeks later another excited text. Spot has babies, too!!! She just brought one inside!!! I was so excited!!! I knew that Echo would need someone her age if she was to successfully join my home. But my neighbor immediately said that she wanted this kitten. His name would be Spunky. I asked if Spot brought any more could I have the next one, please? My neighbor of course said yes. Another text. Spot just brought a 2nd kitten!!! Woo, hoo!!! A little gray tuxedo girl, almost identical to her brother, Spunky. Perfect!!!Winifred would be the sister I wanted for Echo. 😊 The next day another text. Spot has three!!! A little calico crawled out from under my neighbor's bed!!! Now, how did she get under there!? No matter, Sandy was reunited with her mama and two siblings in the bathroom. Meanwhile Gray Kitty was very slowly becoming tame. She was older than Fluffy and Spot. I think she is their mom and was far shier than her daughters were. She was so afraid at first. But with time and patience she learned to trust me, too. By now Midnight was very obviously pregnant. Every day I worried about what would happen to her kittens if she had them in the wild. Fluffy and Spot both chose to trust my neighbor with their babies rather than raise them in the wild. They must have had good reason to. Midnight needed a home before she had hers. But every time I tried to get her inside my 4 year old orange and white tabby, Bunny, said no way. Midnight would need a different home. And soon. My neighbor's friend heard about fluffy and spot and their babies and said she wished she could have a pregnant mama cat, too. Perfect! Midnight is now living her best life there. Six beautiful babies were born in Midnight's new home. Five got adopted. And one little tabby will get to stay with Midnight there. Sandy, (Spot's little calico), got adopted, too. Winifred and Echo came to live with me. Spunky is happily living with my neighbor still. Gray Kitty has become quite close to me. She and Fluffy and Spot all came running whenever I'd step outside. But Gray Kitty was leary of anyone but me. And then the sad text came. My neighbor had just dropped Fluffy and Spot off at the pound. My heart sank. She had tried to take Gray Kitty too, but Gray Kitty scratched my neighbor and ran away. I had wanted to try to get all three girls spayed. I couldn't afford to do all that myself, but maybe between myself and all the neighbors who helped to feed everyone we could. But I didn't get the chance to. My neighbor said that she couldn't handle having more kittens in her home. I couldn't blame her. It had been very hard on her to raise the ones she did. But it about broke my heart to hear that Fluffy and Spot were taken to the pound. Gray kitty is very fearful now. She runs now if I reach a hand out to her or call her name. Anything that reminds her of those moments where her daughters and friends were taken away terrifies her now. I hope I can tame Gray Kitty again. But if I can I will have to betray her trust and take her in to have her spayed. But that trip would be to my vet. And she would be gifted a break-away collar to show that she has a home. I may never be able to bring Gray Kitty inside because Bunny will probably not allow me to. But I at least want to make sure that she won't be taken to the pound. She already has a home - wherever I will be.

Is Leon throwing the container out of the aquarium to alert your attention, to get it for him? That's pretty clever.

I have recently started watching your channel and I am absolutely enthralled with you and Leon! You have an amazing way of communicating with Leon and all the animals and allowed us to see Leon as a real personality and not just a lobster to be eaten. I also love your tank designs and changing the environment for Leon. Thanks so much for sharing. 🙂

I am learning so much from Leon! I would never have thought lobsters were that intelligent. It amazes me how self aware he is. I am convinced he figured out that he couldn't get the shrimp out of the container, so he was trying to return it to you so you could fix the problem for him.

Animals have a strange relationship with glass and clear surfaces. Every chameleon I've owned knows that it's a barrier and yet, through the power of optimism and magical thinking, they think they can catch flies on the opposite sides of windows. Cleaning dried-on tongue marks off of glass is harder than it looks. I live downriver from the port of Tilbury and I love watching the big container ships plying up and down the deep channel, and tracking their progress online. The Hyundai Respect in this video is currently in Taiwan. Good luck to Jet and commiserations to Leon. Plumbing obviously isn't his vocation.

its mindblowing to me that even something as small and supposedly insentient as the crab and glass shrimp can adjust to being fed by a human as if they understand.

Not only is Leon smart, he has GREAT timing! I really needed to get out of my own head for a little while and just like that, a new video from Brady & Leon pops up! Fascinating & therapeutic as always. I think you will find that Jet will really blossom once that leg is gone. They adapt way better than we do in a situation like that. Thank you for sharing your fascinating world with all of us. Its like therapy but way better for me & im betting it is for others too. Thank you for being a positive light in the world. The black kittens are such cute little voids!! Black cats are my favorite. I like that they're soft little shadows that purr. I wish more people would adopt them...I bet they'd be good for making kids less afraid of the dark too. I know I would've been comforted if the dark spot in the doorway of my closet was just a kitty!

Leon is looking so healthy and beautiful. His colors are wonderful. I think he's got it completely now. He knows you and he thinks the games are fun until you stump him. I agree that he has emotions. Maybe they are learned from his living in this sweet habitat. Thanks for taking care of the kittens I hope Jet will be just fine after surgery.

I’m sure glad you got Jet before the leg issue happened. That would have not ended well for him in the wild. I was also wondering what happened with the pregnant glass shrimp so I was happy to see the update on her and the babies. The little crab you found in the aquarium sure is a survivor. I’m interested to see what happens with all the baby shrimp though. I have to say that each of your videos is so interesting and the content is varied enough to keep my attention. Love this channel and all you do for the less fortunate critters out there. Leon is the ⭐️ most of all.

About the injured kitten: 1. Wow, are there really superstitions about black cats still in existence? I live in Europe (Germany) and thought this was a thing of the middle ages. 2. Amputation of a hind leg has a better prognosis (in terms of how well the animal can deal with it in the future) than of a front leg, so that's (kind of) good news. 3. Thanks for keeping us updated about non-Leo-things too. I liked the episode with the fish with the hook in it's mouth that you tried to help (although unseccessful, but it just warms my heart to see people showing compassion with their fellow creatures. I helped a caterpillar the other day not to get run over on the bike trail, so that's my kind of thing ;) And finally, Thanks so much for keeping us updated on Leon's development, I'm learning so much and it widens my spectrum of what creatures to regard as "fellow/worth considering having compassion with". ☺️

Leon is a very clever and confident lobster, with quite the personality. Your rescue kittens are lovely, and I think Jet is going to be just fine in your loving care. I love how the personalities of the small crab, and the tiny one are developing as they learn the pattern of life in the aquarium. Your closeness with Nature is a beautiful reminder that we can choose to be better.🖤🇨🇦

It is wonderful that you area has a TNR program! As you pointed out, not as great as a home, or even a barn / shop, but it will keep her healthier as she won't be constantly being chased by toms or having to feed and protect kittens. Wish more people would push spay / neuter programs.

I made a food ball toy for my goldfish… here’s how you can make your own : Step 1 : get your supplies (PLASTIC XMASS orpiment ball of a size large enough for the NORMAL amount of food, drill and sandpaper) Step 2 : drill holes into the ball, some big enough for WATERLOGGED / SWOLLEN food to fit through, others smaller for letting water in Step 3 : sand it smooth Step 4 let your tank buddies figure it out on their own! (Step 4 takes time, be patient!)

I have a cat that came into my foster care with a similar limp and ended up getting an amputation, after which I adopted him. I took him back home from our shelter, and he immediately remembered where all the toys are and wanted to play even with his 13 big metal staples across his belly. He's still bright, noisy, and active today, and his leg doesn't slow him down at all. Cats truly do have three legs and a spare, so don't be nervous! 💕
