Not happy with the defense but Joey has provided a bit of stability and a bit of hope which is a lot more than Kliff or Wells provided. Winning record in the conference for 3 straight years is huge and the possibility of winning 8 games in the regular season for the first time since the Leach era is as well.

Joey had a couple of recruiting classes in the top 25, with a bunch of 4 star edge rushers. And a couple of classes that (on paper) were the fastest in college football. What happened? Coaching has to develop these young players to excellence.

Coaches are often blindly loyal to strength coaches because they implement so much culture for the head coach. When JMC says look at everything, I hope he means it. Results haven’t been there from this perspective. Can’t keep talking about guys not being ready physically without looking at person whose job it is to get them ready. Results just aren’t there with this team. Too many guys on the lines do NOT look the part.

To me, the Dline HAS to be priority #1. You guys mentioned it, and yes while the Oline hasn't been GREAT, they've been good enough to have our offense ranked top in the conference. We've been able to put points on the board. My issue is the lack of pressure on opposing QB's. The stat Level mentioned on 5 of the QBs we've faced having "career" days against Tech tells the story. I've counted a few games where the opposing QB has 4 and sometimes 5 seconds to scour the field and pick a receiver to throw to (mostly downfield). If we can cut that decision making time in half to 2 seconds, hopefully that forces QB's to rush their progressions and probably force some bad throws that could result in turnovers giving our O another chance to put up points. Getting pressure up front is key on the defensive side.

08 was technically still our best chance of big 12 title game if OU lost to OSU we were in. The chances of that happening were slim to none and OU won by 30 but we only needed a win and one team to lose opposed to a win and 4 teams to lose this year.

I do fault the defensive coaches in the area of not being able to tell what your players are and aren’t good at. They also have not been humble about recruiting track and speed in the backend, perhaps they should focus more of good football players? I would give speed up for technique.

The idea that they recruited speed only and didn't take football ability into consideration just isn't true. Those guys are either redshirt freshmen or a couple of true sophomores that had to burn their shirt last year, covering for injuries. Jordan, Sanford and Lewis were all true freshmen that had to burn their redshirts to play significant time last year. That seems to indicate that they're pretty good football players IMO.

I really want to be honest... i like DeRuyter's defense. Our statistics were terrible, but we were rocked by injuries, but he made good adjustments, i felt like we actually had great stands and holds at times, our offense going 3 and out, walking 30 seconds of clock after a crucial stop happened more times than I'd ever want to see. I feel like the D got put in some really unfair positions.

I'm sorry @barryc5981 but the numbers don't show this. The average defensive ranking over DeRuyter's three seasons is 106th nationally. Do you remember Joey's introductory press conference? Prior to Saturday, we were pretty good against the traditional run. Ollie and that old osu line beat up on our backup dt's, but before that, when was the last 100 yard back against us? That weird Baylor game? Scattaboo has been making teams look silly, and we held him to something like 2ypc. Just haven't been able to pressure the qb with 4 or 5, and that's going to put a young secondary on blast

It’s an objective fact that we have fast, athletic players in the secondary. I think we don’t allow them to actually PLAY fast because our defensive staff does a poor job preparing for opponents. We have to give these players an elite scouting report so they can unlock their full potential and I don’t think TD is capable of that

Second thought. I truly don't think tim is the issue. I believe it's a youth issue. Thought this could be a drop in defensive production this year due to that. Yim lost soooo many players to injury, got put in sooooo many bad situations due to Kittley going 3 and out while not even taking a minute off the clock after BIG stops and turnovers. Give time the pieces, healthy players and some portalbdline and he will absolutely crush it

I’m glad we are going into the portal, I just hope we go after stars and in game proof of greatness. Also, maybe the strength coach needs to be looked into? Maybe it’s just me but our 300lbs guys don’t look like Alabama, Texas, Clemson 300lbs guys. If we are going after only 10 guys in the portal, let’s spend some big money since we only go after 3 star HS recruits with a 4star sprinkled in. Big money should be spent on at least one of those fronts. Id love to know all the 3 star plumbers, home builders, doctors, etc. that our coaches employ and rely on in dire straits. Yeah, probably none.

I agree about the health of Morten. There's just something that seems off in the way he throws. He's made some great deep passes, but there's been some really bad ones in key moments. Some plays that could have been TD that were underthrown with WR having to come back to get and getting tackled. Some of that is having defenders all over you, but other times he looks like he's shoving the ball down the field.

We make way too many excuses for Morton. He’s average at best and he makes the OLine look bad with his lack of pocket presence and holding the ball too long. We’ll never be above average with him.

The defense has been bad, but the offense is overrated. I think they are 17th in total offense which sounds good on the surface. But they are 77th in yards per play which is more telling. And that's with one of the best backs in the nation who is leaving. Kittley has been great at the opening drive script, but has struggled to make adjustments. How much of that is on the O line? It's troubling.

When he talks OL the blocking scheme sucks. How many times can you count when the whole OL was three yards or more past the LOS after a play. On most plays they are at or behind the LOS after the whistle. Influence blocking sucks if it is the only thing you do.

The coaching carousel puzzles me. Everyone wants to be the best team. The reality is that, due to the numbers, few have the percentage to be the one on top. In Big12 only one of 16 will be left standing. And only half statistically will have a winning record. If you're in the top half be thankful.
