The Coco/Soul afterlife thing actually makes more sense the opposite way. It would make more sense that the afterlife in Coco comes before the in Coco since we already know that in Coco, the afterlife depicted is only temporary as long as people remember you and if people forget you you continue on to another place that no one there knows about. It would make sense that in their culture they go there first and then after people forget you then you continue on to the great beyond in Soul.

Coco is essentially purgatory. The souls that are cut off from their "battery" and need human attention (memories, thoughts and prayers) to sustain them in a way similar to the toys in Toy Story. If they are cut off twice, and no one on earth remembers or gives them attention, they die a second death....its fairly reminiscent of the lower astral plane and the mechanics therein described in New Ageism tbh.

In inside out, the personalities are developed based off of the experiences that people have based off of the characteristics that they get in the great before. So Riley likely would not have experienced the memory that powered say, goofball island had she not been given the potential for that personality in the great beyond. She wouldn't just all of a sudden be constantly empathetic and caring for her family and develop family island, she would need to be born with the potential, yes, but then has to have a memory to go with it.

I haven’t written a full in-depth review for a movie in a long time but Soul left me with a lot to say. Let me just get something out of the way first. I was really excited for this movie and went in with high expectations! I love Pixar pretty much all their movies other than a few. I also generally like animation movies because I mostly grew up with them and it’s been cool over the years seeing animation for these movies get better and better! I’m also a big fan of this movie’s director Pete Doctor! The man knows how to make beautiful and compelling movies and stories that are often really emotional! From Up to Inside Out and Monsters Inc. He knows the work and you could argue he perfected it. So I went in into this movie with a lot of high expectations, one of them being that I predicted that Soul may be my favourite movie from the entire year! Cause when I heard about the premise of the movie I was super intrigued and I felt like I resonated with it. I’m happy to say that this is a movie a lot of people will resonate with and connect with and even I resonated with it at some of its messages. Soul for me felt like one of Pixar’s most ambitious films yet. It’s wildly different then what you would expect from a family animated movie. I would argue that this movie is aimed at adults or students who are looking for explanations or purposes In their life. That’s how mature it is, and I think if young kids would watch this movie they wouldn’t like it and it would be far from them being able to understand this story and the messages it presents. This movie is really complex, deep, intimate, personal and unfortunately too complicated for its own good. I personally might have a disadvantage with understanding the story of this movie because I find myself often getting confused and not understanding what the filmmakers and writers of movies want to convey to me. So that might be an issue with me and not the movie’s but, I was pretty confused with the story and everything that is presented. Nonetheless, let me go back on how bold this movie is though because I honestly wasn’t expecting this from Pixar. This movie has a lot of layers it explores, it’s fast-paced at just ninety minutes and wildly different from anything else in its field. So it’s important to give credit where credits due. I didn’t even get started on how breathtaking and incredible the animation for this movie is. I could say so much more on the level of detail Pixar and their entire team put into with there animation for this movie. The movie was also unexpected at times when it gave me vibes from the movie Freaky Friday and how the events from this movie were similar to that movie at parts. It also had great music that it presented, astonishing world-building and well-realized characters that you end up caring for. Overall Soul was one of the most unique movies Pixar has to offer. With a dense and compacted plot and messages that will leave audiences pondering long after its over, humour that works for most of the time, clever dialogue, characters with a lot of personalities and just gorgeous animation makes Soul one of the best movies of the year. Unfortunately for me though I felt like I couldn’t appreciate and grasp all the messages, morals and the overall story that the movie had to offer. That’s alright though because I still had an amazing time with Soul!

My personal theory (influenced by SCB) is that Mexico's strong tradition of Dios de los Muertos somehow spawned the Land of the Dead--an extension of our physical dimension. If you compare Inside Out's mind structure to the Land of the Dead, they look super similar (the latter being more complex since it's basically the entire memory of Mexico). Also, if you watch Coco closely, you'll see that the Land of the Dead is still very physical. Only difference from the real world being since you're already dead, you can't die from anything that would be otherwise hazardous. Anyway, when Hector's friend experienced the Final Death, he told Miguel that no one knows where someone goes after that. This proves to me that when someone is forgotten, they finally pass onto the Great Beyond. I personally don't see how the Land of the Dead could be a form of the Great Beyond when there's obviously another form of death, but we all have our own interpretations of the Pixar Theory. :) P.S. What if all the souls shown in that reel are Pixar characters we know? We can obviously see Merida and Syndrome (or Evelin)--who else?

Toys stored away absolutely do not loose their life. I disagree with that because toy story proves otherwise. They were ok with being stored in the attic together in the attic together in toy story 3 and its stated Jesse was stored away "in the dark" with the other collectibles before woody came along and in toy story 4 none of the Toys in the antique shop really got played with at all, stated by the owner and bo peep. Humans can supply some sort of energy buy saying the Toys die is incorrect. I took the soul crackling in the movie as a sort of bug zapper joke. And the spark is specifically stated as the moment when the soul is ready to live.

I don't think toys are truly alive. They are "alive" when powered by human memory orbs, they "die" if they get forgotten but they can start "living" again. But they are never alive the same way humans are. For example, they don't have free will, and they can't power items. Therefore, what you said is kinda true, toys don't "die" as in "their soul goes to the great beyond", but they "die" as in "the item doesn't have human energy". Their toy death isn't the same as real death, because they were never alive, and, unlike the real death, they have potencial of being powered again, ie. the toy death is only temporary. What has been said about the spark in the video is propably incorrect, but humans definetly can power non-living things. It's just that the spark is not how it works. This may not be explained perfectly, but to make it short, i believe what scb says about it, because it makes sence to me. Their videos might explain it better.

The difference between coco and soul is in coco they are spirits which is only like a memory of a person and in soul its there soul which is eternal which is why you dont see them fade away after not being remembered, spirits loose power when they are forgotten same as in toy story! The toys have spirits because the child put so much thought and energy into the toys life so when he forgets about them they loose their lifeforce

I think that the Pixar Theory can go in 2-3 different ways. 1. It could go the way that is explained in this video. 2. Different dimensions. This one could make a lot of sense. The doors in Monsters Inc. and Brave could be doors to different dimensions. The Monsters in Monsters Inc could be in a separate dimension, Brave world could be in the “real world”, along with UP, Toy Story, Soul, and others. If Boo is the old witch in Brave, then she could’ve gone through the doors she explained in the video. That could make a lot of sense. 3. Movie vs. Real Life. This could go like the Tarantino Universe. Some of his movies exist in the “real world”, while others of his movies exist in the “movie world”, where characters in his “real world” would go and watch at the theatre. If the Pixar theory went like that, movies like the Cars trilogy and The Incredibles could be movies that characters in the “Real World” (Toy Story, Soul, Boo’s World) would go and watch.
