I found out about the house sparrow, last year when they came after my tree swallows. I sat outside and would help keep it away. They are very persistent, but I won 😁 If they come back again I am getting one of these traps!

Excellent instructional video. I keep my backyard full of native songbirds with my feeders. They nest in my many trees. 5 Stars all the way.

Excellent overview of how to use these invasive house sparrow traps and what one needs to consider to avoid trapping native sparrows. Thank you.

Hi, I just found your video. I’m curious why you said that starlings can only be trapped in the winter? Is that location specific for you? Thanks.

I have to try the traps; I feel so bad for the Bluebirds in my backyard because every time they try to get into the houses, a nasty male sparrow blocks and scares them off. They have taken over all 3 houses!

This may be a really dumb question, but once sparrows are caught, how do you go about removing them and “dealing with them” from inside the trap in the first cage with the elevator trap?
@KITTKATT112 жыл бұрын
Check out your state regulations on how to deal with the bird. Relocation only makes it someone else's problem. My state, recommended the removal of the bird from the trap, place it in a plastic bag and put it in a garbage can with a lid. It did not say to kill it but that's the end result.

If you really wanna know I have a mesh laundry bag…..I put all of them In the bag , fill a 5 gallon bucket up with water …and I’m sure you can figure out the rest ……I just think it’s better then putting them in a plastic bag and throwing them in the garbage ….. but I’m sorry if I offended anyone but in New York these birds are an invasive bird and they kill native birds literally because they can ….and I’m just not cool with that, sorry

The back of the trap has a round door your arm goes through. It is covered, in the inside, by a black cloth(?) flap which is why you don't see it. @1:45 the camera was pushed through the door flap which is why you don't see wire in that part of the video.

Do not release the trapped house sparrows. Find someone that can dispatch them for you if you cannot do it your Self. Those bastard birds will kill the bluebird parents and pock holes in the bluebird eggs. They must be destroyed.

I can't harm other birds ... sorry ... the best I can do is protect the bluebirds. I have a roosting house above a bluebird house. The sparrow are using it and they doesn't seem to be any conflict between the two. I have 4 roosting houses and 3 bluebird houses put up. One bluebird house is occupied with bluebirds. The other house has a wren's nest in it and the third is empty. I guess with all the housing there is no conflict.
@amycollini64053 жыл бұрын
There's no such thing as too much housing to prevent conflict. House sparrows will get your bluebirds...and it doesn't matter how many houses you have up. Unless you're prepared to control house sparrows, you shouldn't have nest boxes up. Once you watch a house sparrow kill your bluebirds, maybe you'll think differently about your approach.

So you are allowing the invasive species to live, breed and grow? What happens when a bear wants to sleep in your doghouse? Do you make it a house too?
