Well, classic speedrun video curse - new WR by Casu - 4:02.267 as of 1/8/23. Good job! Edit 1/11/23: Okay Trimp took it back with a 4:01.570. What a legend.

Speed running fascinates me. I don't have it in me to play the same game over and over again, hundreds, if not thousands of times but I admire the people who do and the tricks and strats they find to improve their times.
@jeksewnoleeray1020 Жыл бұрын
The thing I love about jump king speedrunning is that it's just polishing this raw skill and perfectionism to hit faster times rather than abusing buggy mechanics or RNG like so many other games' speedruns. also the TAS record is 3:43 so it's incredible how close humans have got to the theoretical limit.
@jeksewnoleeray1020 Жыл бұрын
@@user-wd9yo2kz1w it's still speedrunning, just a different category. Both have their place

Nice to see more informational jump king content on youtube, you glazed over a lot of details especially the early history but the video would have been 30 minutes if you mentioned everything so I understand why, it still came out really well. You have a great voice for this kind of video also you should definitely keep making content.
@Quaides Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I think JK's full speedrunning history is super interesting but I wanted to keep this video specific to how catching the negative cycle is a big accomplishment for the run. I'm glad you enjoyed!

Honestly have been meaning to play this since forever but I never really got around to it until now, just bought it during a sale and I do think I am prepared since I’ve done all Super Meat Boy no death runs and half of the Celeste golden strawberries and all radiant bosses in Hollow Knight so I’ve been looking for something new.

Wouldn't that be the 0 cycle? Or did they do it like 0 AD?
@Asrashas Жыл бұрын
Why not call it the 10 cycle? He caught the tenth cycle of the wind (unless I calculated wrong, but the principle still holds). Since the cycle starts from the very beginning of a run that is the easiest, most obvious and least confusing method to count it. But they picked one more or less arbitrary cycle and declared it to be the first.
@sajrra Жыл бұрын
Very nicely explained. You could have mentioned the 3 Windcycle-Skips a bit more. Compared to a unaware Runner, who plays Windswept Bluff 'normaly', there are strats to get double the progress during a windcycle. The progress the Runner with the normal route achieves with 2 cycles, a Runner using a windcycle-skip get in only a single cycle. There are 3 Skips. The first 2 skip one entire cycle, the third skips half a cycle. 2*13s + 1*6s = ~32 Seconds saved due to the clever use of windcycle-skips.

Constructive feedback... Take another minute to better explain what the game is as a casual game. (other than "once you jump, you jump") I have no idea what game this is or how it feels, which means I have no idea how impressive the runner's skills are in comparison. (seeing streamers scream like a child when they die gives me NO context.) Keep up the good work.

I would like to point out that the use of the word "broke" in the title is misleading. "Breaking" a game usually refers to using glitches and exploits not intended by the developers (thus "breaking" the game), whereas these runs are pretty vanilla and developer-intended regarding how the game functions.
