Correction: 1985 is not a sequel to 1984. It is composed of a first half which is a treatise on the dystopia (in which Burgess offers his preferred term "cacotopia," derived from music), and a second fictional half which does not have any direct content relationship with 1984.

This is very similar to the Oedipus complex thad in I believe was Shakespeare's tragic stories such as the lack of a mother figure and it's very much symbolizes Alex and his complete disdain for mother like figures especially older women. He treats him more like figurines to be used i and manipulated rather than flesh and blood human beings deserving of live & respect. A behavioral trait that mimics a lot of patriarchal gang members. Which include a lack of empathy as well as a lack of nurturing.
