I have two additions. 1. So bad was a perfect debut song for them because it provided the listener mini-spotlights on each member, so you could hear their vocal colors and the group had a wide range from Seeun's soprano highs to J's astonishing lows. The way the song is structured is reminiscent of Blackpink's Boombayah. 2. The songs they sing are true to their group identity. They sing about learning to understand their emotions, being inexperienced and other things that teenagers go through. They don't pretend to be know-it-all adults on their 10th relationship. Their songs have an earnestness and angst that young people relate to.

this is a very spot on analysis. STAYC is definitely a gamer changer for their generation. aside from the talent they have and the music that BEP produces for them, their promotions were heavily inclined to capture the interest of the gp unlike how other entertainments that seemed to aim for the international audience nowadays. their Korean fanbase is being well-built and as they are a K-Pop group, it is vital that they succeed in their home country. their way to success will be different from other 4th gen groups. it kinda reminds of 2nd gen K-Pop groups since they were successful in South Korea before they expanded to the international audience

before this, i didn't know of B.E.P. that well but this makes sense. STAYC reminds me of Brave Girls when they first debuted, being backed by one of the best known producers at the time, Brave Brothers. However, Brave Brothers were still being hired to make music for other artists so Brave Girls went on hiatus for such a long time after a year into their career. As long as B.E.P. focuses on STAYC, I'm sure they'll have a successful career.

Brave Brothers need to work to pay the bills as Brave Girls wasn’t debuted that successfully. Also Brave Girls music wasn’t stand out back then in the sea of different concept available back then: missA, 2NE1, SNSD, secret, Kara, T-Ara, Apink, Sistar, After School,… it was very hard to stand out. StayC, on the on the other hand, stand out a lot in a saturation of Girl Crush concept. I think part of IVE and StayC success is because they went back to the sound gp like (like twice and snsd) rather than Teddy’s formula (instrumental chorus with sprinkle words) that work really well with Western taste.

I think a huge part of STAYC's success is their talent, every single member could be a lead vocalist. The members are all-rounders which is so rare for a group. Their song/dance cover videos and amount of fun content to watch on them makes it so easy to learn about them and their personalities.

I was like this too! I thought their songs were alright, then I adored Stereotype and fell in love backwards with their discography. It's interesting that Stereotype was supposed to be their debut for a while. I wonder if their following would have been as big because the school friends thing is oversaturated or even bigger because the song was such a hit

Found this video during their Run2U era, although been listening to them since So Bad. Can pretty much agree on many things, like their music which is really hits me, especially their B-sides, their talent of live vocals, the variety of vocals colours in the group, their harmonization in the song, (hesitate to say this, but yes they all are damn visuals). I also admire BEP in how they utilised every members vocals, like everyone can pretty much got their own killing parts in a song.

Thank you so much for this! I'm a SWITH but I always wonder what makes STAYC thrive when they're from a smaller company and not many groups succed doing so. Every SWITH I encounter tend to always answer that the reason is because the girls are talented and their producers are well-known to the public, which is true obviously, but cannot satisfy my curiosity because I didn't know how impactful B.E.P are in Korea itself. And how that plays in STAYC's success because Brave Girls also have great producer but can only reap their success recently. But now I understand, because you give in-depth explanation and also shed light on the condition of the current Kpop scene. Once again thank you so much for this! I am a fan of GFriend and honestly the path they're taking is almost identical to my faves. They both have songs that are hits, they both got their 1st win with their 2nd comeback, vocally wise both are stable, now they moved into a new building. I wish the GP would love Stayc more so that they can have more wins

I discovered STAYC when I watched a fmv from facebook. The vid had the So Bad mv in it. I watched it and GOD I GOT HOOKED SO FREAKING HARD. I looked them up and watched all of their content (what they've released so far back then) and just completely fell in love with them. Up 'till now I've loved every song they've released (SPECIALLY THE B-SIDES OMG THOSE ARE GOLD) and STAYC is probably my ult fave in the 4th gen. I love them so much.

I honestly wasn't familiar with how huge B.E.P were like I didn't know they were behind such big hits, like wow, almost all of Twice's title tracks? Also, my two most favorite Chungha songs, omg. But I actually did catch on the way they had promoted the girls, they went to a lot of KZbin channels and did things that had put them under such a good light. The pre-debut covers were amazing. As of the moment, Stayc is my favorite girl group, their songs are really great and I even got my mom and sisters into them last year, lmao.

I listen every morning to the entire discography of stayc, the 4 albums, I don't find any bad or filler song. by "coincidence" my favorite kpop songs were fancy (art) im so sick from a pink, roller coaster, cheer up and only you from miss A, I'm not kidding. When I found out that they were all from the same product I was shocked and I said to myself "you really have very strong tastes" I already staned stayc, and I realized why. If you listen well, all the songs have similar elements, I always hear sounds of flutes or some wind instrument that I don't know, for example, in the pre-chorus of fancy, instrumental of stereotype, the chorus of asap, intro of like ooh aah. instrumental of like this, the sound of gotta go, why why by shannon williams (she is unknown but please listen to that song) Also trumpet sounds, as in the intro of only you by miss a, the chorus of run2u, or touch my body Also similar is the sound of the TT intro and the second part of the stereotyped chorus. the exciting pre-choirs are characteristic, with tremendous instrumentals They use some melody or phrase key the chorus or in between like fancy woh🎶 eisaap uuuh uh uh🎶 im a goood girl yeaah🎶 a little but litle bit (young)🎶 eung eung🎶 laiki laiki laiki dugundugun🎶 tt uuh tt uuh🎶 ooh ah o oh or oh 🎶 There is also a double choir that is always sung by the main vocalist and the lead vocalist divided in two with some emotional high note, the rap goes after the first chorus. the bridge is extremely emotional. and above all his songs cause a feeling of nostalgia

it's interesting that you mention tri.be because they have famous producers working on their tracks too. all their songs are produced by shinsadong tiger and elly (exid) but they aren't have anywhere near the same success as stayc

But when I read many articles about STAYC and how Knetz always bring up their beauty, it makes me realize that visual really is an important factor in Korea itself. I believe that compared to non-artists, Tri.be members are still considered pretty. But because they're in an industry full of attractive people, their visual might come off as mediocre

Exid and Momoland had viral songs from Shinsandong Tiger because they were simple, catchy tunes that appealed to most people. Keep in mind Shinsandong Tiger has had countless plagiarism controversies, sometimes even ripping himself off just to release earworm songs. DIA would most definitely be very popular too if FNC promoted them in a more effective way. Tribe aren't easy on the ears and they don't have any plagarism controversies, so there goes the two major ingredients for a successful Shinsandong Tiger song.

STAYC is really a cultural reset in their generation. In their generation you don’t really see ggs with the “cuter” concept. I’ve been listening to stayc since asap era since it blew up on tiktok. (Kinda embarrassing but Im glad the girls were getting recognition) although I didn’t fully Stan till Run2u era, I already knew their names, listened to their discography and loved them. Black Eyed Pilseung are such good producers their company High Up Entertainment will end up joining the Big 4 one day with SM, YG, JYP and Bighit and make it the Big 5. The main reason why Bighit made into a huge company is because of Bang Shi Hyuk and PDogg. Same as YG with G-Dragon and Teddy, JYP with Park Jinyoung and SM with Kenzie and Yoo Youngjin. We could say Black Eyed Pilseung and Twice saved JYP. So B.E.P will make it one day. At the end of the day this is a music industry and whoever makes good music can survive and rise.

the term "changing kpop" is extremely exaggerated and false for many reasons, having an all korean lineup for a group is not something new in kpop, having no english lyrics is also not anything new having kpop producers form a kpop group is also not new in kpop, having a group focus on the asian market isn't new as well they are one of the few kpop groups in 4th gen that aren't trying to "break in" to the western market at least not right now but they'll probably try once they get a bit older and theres nothing wrong with that
