HOW STEEL IS MADE: "Next, Steel scrap is added to the mixture...." Can't add the steel mixture if you need to (what was that, again?? Oh, Yeah.) MAKE THE STEEL FIRST!!!!!! Without the Steel, there is no scrap to be added to the mixture in the first place. Kinda reminds me of that HOW IT'S MADE video where, instead of showing how the huge engine is made (in the first place) they showed how the one that's already there was rebuilt.

You misunderstood what he meant, they're adding scrap steel from leftover steel sheets or rods they made that were cut down and are now too small or short for any use. It's put back into the plant so that it isn't just forgotten and thrown away and instead recycled.

The actual process for refining iron ore into steel is a bit more involved and technical than they can get into in 60 sec. Im sure you can find a long form video to explain things with more accuracy and specificity.

the sad thing for the US is we have millions of tons of high grade ore but it was so much cheaper to mine in other country's it shut down the US steel industry decades ago

The minnesota iron range is still booming. They found another 100 years' worth of ore at 1 mine. There is no plans to close the industry

Australia has very high grade iron ore but the sad part is we sell off all the raw resources to China and don't process it ourselves and we lost the manufacturing and high level steel that we used to have

Its beacuse the us doesnt have high quality iron anymore
